hey man, so a couple of weeks later, what are your impressions of this?
i do have a 3423DW, but this screensize is very enticing for me, my use case is 80% gaming, rest work from home + content consuption.
of course i'm concerned about the PPI, but i hear that it's perfectly fine, not that bad...
wait for the alienware. They are going to be coming out with this panel. Should be designated AW3821DW. My only hope is that they will actually have their own implementation of cooling the gsync module instead of this horrific fan.

he also replaced the GSYNC module fan and the hissing is gone. read the thread from the point i linked to.
i thought this was the fan too at first, but this sound is totally constant, i have powered the screen down with the power button and the sound was there 7 hours later when i got up from bed. surely the fan would not be running 24/7 while the monitor is turned off?

got my unit yesterday and was very happy with it, until....
as i was going to bed, i noticed a weird sound coming out of the monitor, mostly because it was very quiet at night.

the thing i'd like to know is how much worse would my FPS be in for example COD:MW with this res on a 1080ti, when i get around 100-120 on a 3440x1440 (not maxed out details ofc), how much worse would it get with +1.2mil pixels? down by 10? 20? 50? anyone with the screen and 1080ti here? :)...
i'm driving the AW3418DW with a 1080ti around 100 FPS in modern titles with some details lowered. i guess this thing would flush my FPS down the drain with the same GPU.
i wish 3000s nvidias would be here sooner :)
not really. the point of it is to get UP TO 100fps, because g-sync starts acting as v-sync once the fps gets beyond the refresh rate of the screen. so 100fps AND below, g-sync is going to make the experience much more enjoyable.

well, i guess you have to account for the time to develop and test an overdrive circuit, i think the electronics are not made by the panel manufacturer, but rather by the display manufacturer.
then housing, quality control, etc etc etc etc i don't think it's THAT simple :)
i was asking because i had previously the BenQ BL3200PT, but i returned because of the banding problem, once seen, cannot be unseen :)
i really liked the 32" size in combination with 2560x1440 even for gaming. now i have a swift, but i will probably try another one of those benqs from the...
how is the downscaling to 1440p on the BenQ? in terms of future proofing a bit, since i don't have a rig that could push 4k in games, i would have to play them in 2560x1440, but not if they look shitty :D

i am still thinking about buying it, i had two of them last year and both had the banding problem. i am wondering if they fixed it with the mfg date of jan 2015....
wow, this makes so much difference. thanks! now it basically matches the colors or the eizo ev2736 i have standing next to it! makes much difference when watching movies (love g-sync for movies,no tearing)

open mspaint, maximize the window, fill it with grey color, and try to move the window around. if you see a vertical "band" roughly where the arrows point in those screenshots, the problem is still there.
not true. i'm running a SWIFT on a gtx680OC 4GB card from gigabyte and doing perfectly fine, taking advantage of gsync when fps is below 60. of course i don't get constant 144 fps, but it will last me plenty until i upgrade to a 16nm card next year or so.

exactly. g-sync only works with fullscreen applications, so as long as you have it enabled in NVCP, it will take precedence over ULMB in games. the screen will revert to ULMB automatically when you enter desktop.

this is a matter of opinion and i disagree. the swift is the only monitor on the market that has 2560x1440, 144Hz and g-sync. there's no other screen with all these properties. does that make the price justified? probably not, but given the circumstance, i'm not surprised that asus ask this...
