That isn't true. There are plenty of monitors that can do greater than 60hz. Most can't go much above 60hz without frameskipping but many can at least do 72hz which just so happens to be a multiple of 24. For instance, Dell 29" 21:9 and my own AOC 21:9 monitor can both handle 72hz without issue...
Much of AOC's business is in Europe and Asia. They often launch their products there first. This isn't a cause for a temper tantrum. We are lucky that many products launch first in the USA but not all companies do or should have to.
If a company publicly states their first batch bound for the...
The delay was confirmed on twitter: https://twitter.com/aoc_monitors/status/524932458861838336
Yes that's what it is. They don't *want* to sell in the US and Europe.
I commend them for delaying the release rather than keep selling products known to have problems. *Cough* LG *Cough*
Thanks for the link!
I am in the same boat. AOC is saying that the first batch had issues which is why the UK and US release has been delayed. I'm curious to see how this second batch turns out.
FWIW, I contacted AOC support and got a reply from two different reps that stated US availability would be in November.
Difference between 60hz and 85hz is actually quite noticeable. Even 75hz is a pretty noticeable jump. There are diminishing returns when it comes to higher refresh rates...
Your thesis is that it should be treated as a development project? I thought that much was obvious.
The development kit is $300 not $1500. $300 is the target for the consumer version as well. You snicker at 50,000+ development kits? I'd call that a success for a crowd funded VR project. It is...
Haha...you know they used crowd sourcing to fund development right? Why on earth would you advocate for the company to shut up? As a company the Rift has only been in development for a year and a good part of that year was hiring for a team. Yet they've already sold 50,000+ development kits...
This decision makes sense to me. On the desktop, I think both Chromium and Firefox are equally good and it comes down to personal preference. For a mobile experience Chromium wins right now and hence why they are changing the default.
Firefox is still a few clicks away for those that prefer it.
I was being sarcastic :D
I think both myself and Sycraft understand there are some benefits to a 120hz TN monitor for gaming. We both have a 120hz TN panel and an IPS and yet we both prefer the IPS overall. I'm not sure why you would consider people who have been able to try both and happen to...
Assuming the Dell U2913WM uses the same panel and that Dell's website can be trusted then it looks like it should be 12.16"
However, this doesn't really line up with the pixel pitch comparison.
A 23" 1080p monitor with a pixel pitch of 0.265mm has a height of 11.28"
The 29" ultra-wide has...
It is incredible that people can use an IPS monitor for anything other than static images. There is just so much motion blur that when I scroll a web page I have to let it sit still for 2 full seconds just be able to read the text through the blurry mess.
Yes, mathematically 120hz is twice as fast. I get it.
Those pixel tests are black text on a white background, aka the worst possible scenario. That's great for a test(not unlike my calculator example) but most of my games do not involve such contrasts.
The original post was asking about IPS...
lol, I get your arguement. 120hz = 2*60hz therefore it must be twice as good.
I just don't see that much of an improvement in motion blur in practice. It is better but does not feel twice as good as a reasonably fast IPS monitor. I do have a third older Dell IPS from ~2005 that has considerably...
Is there a difference between a 120hz TN and a decently fast IPS? Yes, of course there is. But, to me it is not night and day and there are other trade offs to consider as well(vertical viewing angles, color, etc). When I went from 20" CRT monitors to 24" LCDs did my gaming performance suddently...
My issue with your arguments is that specifications do not always have real world effects. I have both a fast TN gaming monitor and a "slow" u2412m IPS. I want to sell the TN because it looks terrible next to the IPS. The narrow vertical viewing angles result in the top of the screen being too...
My understanding is that the passive polarized alternating lines are slightly visible even in 2D mode. I'm just going to wait for the Oculus Rift or similar HMD for real discrete stereoscopic display. Its so much better than shutter glasses
Really? That doesn't sound right, I would think the...
If the person pays with PayPal then you have their email also. PayPal is a more direct comparison anyway since the blogger's issue is with Google Checkout.
How is this different than other payment systems like PayPal and such? How is it different than ordering something from an e-tailer?
With PayPal, I see their full name, email address, and exact address. Oh the horror!
Nothing like a news story about Google to bring the tin foil hat people.
For those talking about it being confusing, have you seen the implementation yet?
There is nothing confusing to me about this:

Err, last I heard they didn't delete the data yet to allow investigations.
I remember something about the fact that they won't give the data over to authorities but they are keeping it for bit in case they are forced to. I suppose keeping the evidence and being able to show its relative...
I don't find G+ to be dead or even nearly dead. There is no doubt that it isn't nearly as mainstream as Facebook but that is why I use G+ in the first place. I find the active community there to be mostly tech savvies, of which aren't likely to be playing Bejeweled. I guess its somewhat a matter...
Its kind of funny...the reason this guy can run a reasonably successful alternative market is because the Android platform is pretty open to begin with. No root/jailbreak/mod required to install from his store.
You missed my point. AFAIK, Google never said face unlock was some great security solution. That's why I'm comparing it to slide to unlock. Face unlock is a neat alternative to slide to unlock...nothing more.
While the javascript isn't as powerful as NoScript, the adblocking is the same. You can now block the download of ads, not just hide them. I have don't have a need for NoScript but thats just personal preference.
I use Chrome + adblock + flashblock + built in javacript blocking
Newer versions of Chrome allow for real javascript blocking with a good exception system as well as real ad blocking. If an ad isn't blocked by EasyList then just right click on the ad to add it to the filter.
Btw, Chromium...
I'm surprised to see no support for this great reporter!
IMO, the story's shortcoming is that she didn't address the bigger picture. For instance, she should be attacking hotels/motels as well. Think of all the profit these hotels make by being complacent to hosting prostitution! Hotels have a...
Its an advertisement from a for-profit hospital. I don't think its all that dumb really. If I'm going to the emergency room and I see that a hospital has an 11 minute wait...I'm going there, considering the national average is 4 hours.
You realize the two of the main culprits to the national...
