Just want to report that now that I have had more time to adjust the settings (black equalizer and backlight to high), example video 4 at 2:20 looks MUCH closer to the OLED as far as minimizing black crush. However, these settings lead to noticeably more bloom in worst case FALD scenarios (the...
Just checked. In real life, the black crush isn't quite as bad, but yes, there is a lot of black crush going on. I just turned off the "contrast enhancer" setting. That helped to some extent as well.
I have both the NEO G7 (for one day so far) and LG 32EP950 OLED monitors. I also had the PG27UQ for two years until it died recently and the PG32UQX. I have also had a few other FALD monitors that are not worth comparing. I am posting my impressions. These are the some VERY quickly made 4K...
These monitors are showing up at B&H now.... does anyone know if there is any downside to getting the 240hz versus the 165hz? Like is the image quality/FALD response/etc the same between the two? Or is it legit ONLY a difference in refresh rate? Appreciate any info!
Someone really, REALLY needs to attach this to a PS5/Xbox Series X and send a 4K signal to it and see what happens..... if it can downsample and display the signal, that is a MAJOR win.... if not, console gaming on this thing may suck.....
I have the 32EP950. Brightness (except in VERY bright highlights) is generally on par with my old PG27UQ. The 32EP950 can hit around 700 nits in certain situations (i.e. small 5% blocks of light on screen), even though the VESA HDR rating is much lower.
Remember, OLED VESA HDR specs are...
Finally got my hands on the PG32UQX from Amazon because I just had to see how this was in comparison to my old PG27UQ (which I consider one of the best monitors ever made). This is my direct comparison with the PG27UQ (used it for 2+ years every day, recently died, however) and my LG 32EP950...
The X32 is cancelled and is being replaced by an X27S and X32S model (both will have HDMI 2.1, but a little less zones/brightness). Check the Display Ninja site for more info.
Just FYI... this won't be the case a year from now. Amazon has slowly started restricting returns. Funny enough, stuff like cat food is now basically non-returnable EVEN IF IT ARRIVES DAMAGED or has some other defect.
Have the 32EP950. Can confirm.
In 90% of mixed content (neither super dark nor super bright) it is on par with the PG27UQ. In dark content, it crushes the PG27UQ (no halo, bloom, etc obviously). I can see detail in dark HDR content that is just invisible on the PG27UQ. On very bright...
This is completely false. The peak brightness is around 720 nits in HDR mode. For OLED, this is considered very good for HDR. I have this monitor and the PG27UQ. Apart from bright specular highlights (or full screen 1000 nit flashes), side by side, they are extremely difficult to tell apart...
I know some people have a mental thing and can't get over 60hz, but if you guys really want an amazing monitor that solves ALL these problems EXCEPT 120hz, you should really look at the photos/videos I posted of the 32EP950.
I came from the PG27UQ. Outside of edge cases with REALLY bright...
Yup. The opposite is true too. My LG 32EP950 OLED literally has crazy bloom/halo on iPhone video in certain situations.... but it is OLED, so, in real life, bloom/halo doesn't exist and you get true blacks.
Don't count on firmware updates from ASUS. They basically don't do them for any monitors except their ProArt series.... all their other monitors (including the expensive ROG gaming monitors), are basically sold as is with zero updates. The PG27UQ got one update, and that was largely due to it...
Never listen to ASUS support. They are grossly incompetent. (Like basically all "support" at most companies is these days.)
Honestly, the blooming you are seeing is pretty good. This is just the nature of FALD monitors. You are looking at the worst case scenario for an FALD - small bright...
Agree. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if DisplayPort ends up going the way of DVI in a few years. Desktop PCs are basically the only devices using them (and almost all video cards have HDMI too now), and desktop PCs are themselves are kind of dying out. Apparently, Generation Z doesn't...
I had the PG27UQ and mine also literally just died 100% after being a slow death spiral for a year. I agree it was the best monitor I have ever had. (and I have had a lot of them)
You did the right thing not getting a non-FALD monitor... going back to those after a few years with the PG27UQ...
Yes, tried it all. I honestly think the panel is capable of higher than 60hz, but JOLED probably implemented some kind of hardware level block.... because it's not an "out of signal" or related error, just an immediate shut down. JOLED lists 32" OLED 4K 120hz panel on their site for...
Here are some pictures of hte PG32UQX and PA32UCG that were posted by other people in the other thread. As you can see, they took these pictures in a lit room (which really helps to mitigate bloom/halo on FALD panels).... in a pitch black room, the halo/bloom would likely be far worse.
This is a picture of the 32EP950 of a challenging dark scene that I took and posted on the PG32UQX thread. Other people on the PG32UQX thread have posted pictures of the same scene on the PG32UQX and PA32UCG. You should look at those pictures on that thread to really get a good idea of the...
Yes. It is 60hz max. Trying to overclock it even by one hz immediately results in a black screen.
It is vastly superior in image quality to any other IPS/VA/TN panel that I have ever used with the exception of the PG27UQ. (And I imagine the newer FALD IPS panels that just came out.)
If you...
I see what you mean.
From my own personal use, I have the X27, PG27UQ, and 32EP950 for comparison. I have not yet been able to try the PG32UQX or PA32UCG. My point of posting the 32EP950 screen shot was to demonstrate what zero bloom/halo looks like on a photo so that we have a zero...
I don’t know. You were the one saying you can’t compare photos because they will all have halo while the 32EP950 has none in the photo.
The fact is the PA32UCG has drastically less halo on the picture than the PG32UQX while the 32EP950 has none.
