What's funny is, in like, 15 years or so, my kids are gonna be saying stuff like this about me.
One of my proudest parental moments will be when I teach my daughter to solder. ;)
I've never had a problem with it. The thing I really like about it is that it's REALLY quiet, I can barely tell it's even on. Of course, that's probably because I haven't modded it yet. :p
I don't have the X on the door anymore, I cut it out and made a new window. :p
However I have changed the lighting since then. The one running along the top of the mobo is gone, and I have another 12 inch running vertical alongside the 2 80mm fans in the back.
I'll post pics later on...
Thanks. :)
Yeah, I know, it was my first sleeving attempt, I kinda messed it up a little.
I can't decide if I want to order another sleeving kit and try it again, or just say F*ck it and wait until I can get a modular power supply.
My case came with a spot for a blowhole up top, but I never put a fan in there because I didn't think it would do any good, and I thought it would actually divert air that's supposed to be going past the motherboard right out the top.
Is that right? Or should I stick a fan up there?
I apoloigize if this has been covered, I did a search but nothing really came up.
Basically, what I want to know is, is it safe to take 2 cathode tubes, solder the wires together so they both lead into one connector, and plug that one connector into the inverter? The inverter I had with two...
I've tried pointy tipped tweezers, I've tried a paperclip, I've tried a teeny little eyeglass screwdriver, and I've tried a staple. I couldn't get any of them to work.
If it helps, you can get an extraction tool for 6.95 here...
I really wish computer/electronics stores would start carrying cable sleeving supplies. When I get a bug up my butt to sleeve my cables, I want to do it, like, that day. I hate waiting 3-5 days for stuff to get shipped, by then I've totally lost my motivation.
I paid 4 dollars for a molex extractor at Radio Shack and it works perfectly.
However, I also bought not one, but two ATX extractors for under 10 bucks apiece and both of them broke. I swear to God, there is nothing more irritating than having like, 4 pins to go on your ATX and *SNAP* .
That was the very first thing I tried. The lighter ended up burning the heatshrink.
The heatgun usually works pretty well. I think the problem lies in the fact that I didn't use a long enough piece of it, and the quality maybe wasn't so good.
Yeah, it is a little loose, but I can't get it to shrink any more than it is without melting the sleeving. The sleeving kit I got didn't really come with enough heatshrink, so I had to conserve it more than I would've liked. I'm gonna redo the sleeving when I get some spare cash.
I say almost because we all know when it comes to case modding, you're never really done. :p
It's taken me awhile to get this far, I got this case a little over a year ago, but up unil recently I didn't really have the time, money (I still don't have much of that, but I'm makin do), or the...
The only thing that really bothers me are the blue ASUS tags that tell you what cables go to where. If you don't know where the cables go, you shouldn't be modding a case. ;)
Ah, ok. I was thinking it was called "High Heat" Engine Enamel. I think we were probably both talking about the same thing. I was talking about the 500 stuff.
That's what I was thinking...
I did a google search on it, and I got some threads about it on some other forums. Most people tend to agree that its pretty safe, and a lot of people actually think it's a good idea.
As far as getting cancer.......that's just silly.
I've used both a hairdryer and a lighter, and they both work, it kinda depends on the quality of the heatshrink. A hairdryer usually takes a little bit longer, but the results are more "even" I guess.
A lighter you have to be more carefull with, because if you hold it too close or in one...
Dammit, I'm not doing orange! :p
I did find a solution to my blue tinted window problem though. I went to Home Depo and bought some plexiglass, I'll just make a brand new window. :D
Pink?
A really nice gloss or pearl white sounds kinda cool, it'd be a challenge. A really deep navy blue sounds good too. A friend of mine had a trans am that was this gorgeous color blue, it was almost black. I miss that car. :(
And dammit, I'm not doing orange. :p
