My SX600-G makes a whining noise when the computer's in Sleep mode.
Is it possible to raise the feet by at least an inch? If I prop up the case by about that much my GPU temps drop by 3 degrees. But it looks odd to have it propped up on a random video card adapter I had laying around.
It's the video card from my other desktop, I just swap it in because it's too expensive to get more than one of. The temps are about equivalent on the video card to my other case (but it's cramped there too, it peaks at 79-80 C while gaming in both).
I can put a Scythe 120mm Slim fan on the...
Hi guys, I got a question. I have the 600W SFX PSU from Silverstone. Is the vent supposed to be pointed to the inside? It's heating up the inside, and the hard drive which is mounted in front of it is getting hot to the touch.
Here's a picture of other people's builds (different PSU I...
There's probably some hot air from the GPU being spread around as it's not a blower type (Zotac Amp GTX 680) but I can feel it blowing hot air out the vent in the back.
One thing I noticed is my hard drive seems to be pretty hot to the touch. It's mounted in the hard drive cage. I can't check the temperature because it's in a RAID array.
I don't know if that's normal or what.
I actually wound up using none. The temperatures stay cool and the bottom has enough holes to allow the graphics card to suck up a lot of air on its own. The CPU I used (i5-4590S) stays especially cool (doesn't go over 60 C when gaming).
I had bought two 120mm Scythe Slipstream Slim fans but...
Finally assembled mine. Used the SFX 600W power supply, ASRock H97M-ITX, Zotac Amp GTX 680, Core i5-4590S with Cooler Master GeminII M4 heatsink/fan and 2x4GB G.Skill Eco (1.35v) DDR3-1600 ram. 3.5" WD 2TB Black hard drive mounted in cage with a 2.5" SSD for caching mounted on the front.
I...
NewEgg got that Silverstone SFX 600W PSU back in stock finally. Too bad their Visa Checkout discount has already ended. I bought one before they go out of stock again.
Yeah, I'm looking at that one now. Since the CPU I will be using is an i5-4590S (65W TDP), I might still go with the GeminII M4. I intend to transport my SFF system a lot so the lighter heatsink sounds safer.
Also looking for something under 100mm height (to fit in an Ncase M1), but for the purposes of this thread in case anyone else needs the info, mention any that are lightweight (HSF+FAN < 400g) and decent.
Right now I just know of the Cooler Master GeminII M4.
Ah, it's about 10 degrees better at max fan speed than the Cooler Master. But the weight is an issue for me, I want something under 300g with both heatsink and fan. So far only the GeminII M4 seems to be the option for me for something that lightweight.
45 C over ambient at max fan speed is...
The low profile coolers I'm looking at, Cooler Master GeminII M4, Noctua L9i, Zalman CNPS8900, etc (also looking at Prolima Sam-17 which has decent reviews but spreadsheet says is barely better than stock) are rated pretty badly, barely better than stock by a few degrees, so since it is a pretty...
I just realized the i5-4590S is a low wattage (65W TDP) version of the i5-4590, tailored for mini-ITX builds.
What kind of cooler can I get away with? Looking for air cooler, as light as possible (for transport) but still better than stock.
Motherboard will probably be ASRock H97M-ITX/AC...
So are most people just using the PSU fan as an intake fan? What about exhaust?
I figure I'll leave the bottom vents clear for my GPU which isn't a rear exhaust type. Then PSU can act as an intake fan. That leaves the possibility of a rear-mounted 80mm/92mm exhaust fan if the CPU cooler leaves...
What sorts of air cooling HSF/Fan are people going for in this case? I'm looking at anything under 300g weight. I used an Arctic Freezer 11 LP in my parents' ATX build for the same CPU (i5-4590) and it cooled well enough. Due to size considerations mentioned in reviews, I'm also looking at...
I've been getting different results from all those power supply calculators out there. Which would you trust?
I want to run a Core i5 or i7 with no overclocking, Zotac Amp GTX 680, 3.5" 7200rpm HD, 2.5" SSD, 2x4GB G.Skill ECO 1.35v DDR3-1600, and several USB peripherals (USB sound card among them).
The V4 is nice, but it feels like all these microATX cases are just shortening the length and keeping it wide. Are there any cases that are relatively thin (7" or less) and don't stand over 10-11" tall, but can be as long as necessary?
I'm divided on whether to go for the ncase M1 and lose my Sound Blaster Z or try to find a Micro-ATX case that can fit it. So, which is the smallest microATX case that still has 4 expansion slots? (My video card takes up two and a half slots so the SBZ would have to go in the 4th slot).
I don't suppose anyone has traveled on an airplane with one of these machines in their carry-on? It seems small enough to fit. I figure water cooling is a no-go if you plan to do this, but would you have to disassemble anything else if it's in your carry-on where only you are handling it?
Do you guys think a Zotac GTX 680 Amp edition will fit in this case?
The dimensions are 266mm x 125mm x 56mm (10.47" x 4.92" x 2.20"). It has two 6-pin PCIE connectors and it is two and a half slots wide.
Here are pictures...
Ah, turns out my GTX 680 takes up three slots inside the case even though it only has two going to the outside. It won't fit in the Shuttle. That's too bad, I really liked that one.
Apparently there's a motherboard compatibility issue with the i5-4590 and Z87 chipsets:

I'd be using 2x4GB DDR3-1600 from G.Skill (ECO line) that use 1.35v, a Core i5-4590 (3.3-3.7GHz), the Zotac AMP! GTX 680, a 1TB WD Black 7200rpm hard drive and an old 20GB SLC Intel SSD for caching.
I have a USB Sound Blaster Omni Surround 5.1 in case I can't plug in my SBZ, plus I often use...
That sounds very interesting. I assume from your post my video card would fit but would make use of the PCIE x1 slot impossible? A 500w power supply would be enough the GTX 680?
When I go overseas, I take the computer in its box as checked in luggage. I'm concerned liquid cooling might set off alarm bells when going through airport security or something.
I'd like it to be small and lightweight. Weight isn't an issue so much as size/physical dimensions.
I need it to support a full size GTX 680 (zotac amp edition) and a Sound Blaster Z pcie card. I need it to fit two hard drives, a 3.5" and a 2.5". No optical drive necessary.
I already have...
I got a proper PSU tester and the PSU (HX650W) is dead. Not a peep out of it.
I even tested an old Antec from several years back and that one is working fine.
Since that sounds like it could be a problem with a short circuit, I thought perhaps the Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste I used (which is electrically conductive) could have been misapplied. So I took out the CPU and took pics,
Pics of CPU with thermal paste on it after removing heatsink...
