Is it true that by going from analog to HDMI it bypasses macro vision?
When I did this a decade ago one of the movies I ripped was Steel Chariots and it was off an old recording I made of the movie. It’s a forgotten Days of thunder rip off from 1997.
Anything that could be gotten via DVD would be gotten dvd. But there is a lot of out of print stuff that might be cost prohibitive to get DVD.
I’d probably throw together an old laptop that I have and create a library and run Plex rather than create DVDs.. but that’s after I get it going...
My mother in law owns several hundred vhs tapes ( could be thousands for all I know. It’s a lot. Some of them are out of print as far as DVD goes. She hinted that for Christmas she wanted me to figure out how to turn them into DVDs. And I kind of know how. I used to have an old dazzle ( or was...
3050 only draws 70w iirc. It’ll run on 300w. I’ve got a 4060 running in an HP Z2 SFF 310w system using a dual Sata to 8 pin cable. Stable and nothing is burning down ( not recommended, working )
4060 has one purpose. Low profile SFF systems. Otherwise it’s not good value.
I have a SFF with one, and it’s great, but really it’s only as good as it can be since the 4060 Isn’t that great. Makes a monster SFF though and will do 4K on a lot of titles
Yesterday was a little warmer in the house and temps crept up to 84* out in the forest so I shut it down. That was playing Avatar with the CPU and GPU both eating power.
I still have a thin 80mm fan to put in the fan grill that I installed. So I’m debating having it push air in or pull air out...
Fixed it. Cut the hole in it, and put the grill on it. Seems to allow it to circulate enough air to keep it happy. Temps stay below 80* and I have stress tested it
$100 will buy a usable Polaris Radeon pro or a Pascal generation Quadro.. depending on how much power or accuracy you need.. $100 goes a little further with a gaming card, and they work for professional/ graphics as well but they don’t have the same accuracy… you can install pro drivers on any...
I’m back at this trying to keep the card cool. I put a 60mm fan in the rear. I’m trying to make it ‘ready’ for the Avatar game as my wife loves Avatar. I’ve got a 3x 80mm fan grill coming that I will cut into the top panel. I have no room for fans but I think simple convection will allow it...
I watched Dawids video before I bought the card. I looked at the A2000 but more money for less performance at the moment. It’s crazy he got that working though. I am using a 2x sata to 8 pin adapter too. But I bought a good one from Cable Matters and ive closely monitored it a couple times.
. What I’ve read is that the cpu cooler is attached to the motherboard tray with 6-32 screws and using the AMD screws on the Intel bracket with an ID cooling cooler will work. Only what I’ve read tho.. but the cpu doesn’t overheat. The I5 8500 gets to 70* gaming.
The 4060 right around 60w of...
Going to need some ideas for cooling..
I removed the plastic cpu duct and did more testing. GPU never really got over 80* but the cpu runs hotter now ( safe temps tho ). Now I have room for a 60mm fan..
The 3.5” cooler didn’t fit the 3.5” slot due to using sliders and special screws so I...
Well it’s running. Power is not an issue. Thermals is a major issue… kinda
I ran Heaven and it draws 115w on average and takes one cycle to get to 87*. I was just able to get a benchmark and then I cried uncle… Time spy ran a little colder because it was allowed time to cool in between…...
My wife loves lime green. One of the surprises I did for her on the livingroom HTPC was put in a green LED fan… now that I have a HP z2, there is no place for that 80mm green fan.. I bought an LED strip that uses a magnetic strip to light it up.. I’m going to put in a 2.5” mechanical HDD just...
I went ahead and ordered the 4060. Onboard graphics Isn’t happy for some reason. Keeps switching resolution's on anything that uses graphics. Not sure why but I know it won’t be an issue with a new card. Wife couldn’t even watch a dvd ( yes it’s used for that too ) so told me I needed to do...
Yeah the Optiplex has the x16 slot right next to the power supply. The WX4100 was the most power in a single slot without going to a 6400 or breaking the bank on a Quadro that was only marginally faster
I measured the Z2 and I have about 8” of usable length without cutting anything. So the...
Well I just bricked my WX4100. I found a bios for a Dell rx 560 which everything looked right ( my Wx4100 is a Dell card as well ) . Even had Samsung ram. Doesn’t work. I bet because of the 4x display ports. The cards are most likely very similar but it gets zero display…. With the HP...
I run at 1080P with it and it’s just a TV so everything will be capped at 60 fps via vsync. That should keep it from overheating as well as giving buttery smooth game play.
Will the stock CPU cooler work okay with the 4060s heat emission? It’s a decent tower but the fan on it is indirect. I can remove the tunnel shroud from behind it and install a 60mm fan but I’m not sure if it would affect performance.
I have not bought the card yet but I ordered all the cables...
I’m hoping the Fox 3 3.5” cooler I ordered does the trick. I have a chain of 3 40mm fans from an old 5.25 cooler I have. Which I can put in the front I think
I’m going to look into making the fan system thermostatic control so they only run if the case temp hits a certain temperature
Forgot to update this. The optiplex this replaces had 16gb of 2666 and it wasn’t matched brand and I never noticed.. I put that ram in the HP and it’s fine. The HP had a single stick of 8gb HP branded 2666.
I’m contemplating going 4060 and running a 2x sata to 8 pin adapter. The psu is...
I’m thinking that the blower suction will be right in the front corner very close to the GPU fans and it may just be enough. The power supply intake vent would be directly behind it so it would almost be like a tee flow off of the GPU
The cpu has its own duct out the back.
I used to use the PCI slot fans nearly 20 years ago. But never had one of the ever cool 3.5” coolers. Did they ever work okay? My new to me HP Z2 SFF has no fan slots and I know it’s going to have some amount of thermal issue so I either need to case mod/ make something or use a product from...
I figured as much. Crucial usually has it right. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t low voltage ram or anything special when I checked their site. I don’t run computers with less than 16gb.. might just throw 16gb of matched 2666 in it since I actually have that in spares
How matched does the Ram have to be to run in dual channel on one of these HP G4s? It’s only coming with 8gb and Crucial suggests it takes 3200 mhz ram. I only have 2666 MHz spares and I want to get 16 in it. Would a stick of the A Data ram work or should I just buy a 16gb kit? I could...
I opted to get an HP Z2 G4 SF. It was about a $5 difference between it and a Lenovo M920S, but I think the HP just looks a little nicer and also has just a little more room for a graphics card. The Lenovo would need even more cutting
Im just about ready to pull the trigger on one of the Lenovos. I found I can almost go 10th gen for the cost of an 8-9th gen HP. Gotta figure out airflow. I’m spoiled in that the Dells have a front 80mm fan slot so airflow is good. I had to add the fan on my 3060. I don’t think the Lenovos...
The 920s generally seem to come with 210w PSUs but they also came with 265w units, and then there is a 450w unit for another model that fits them, and they have a 6+2 PCIE connector.
The PSU on the other side I think will aid in the airflow of the card. I’ve never had one but it looks...
What are the thoughts on a Lenovo Thinkcenter M920 SFF? One is just over $100 on average and it looks like they just might be a great choice with 3x M.2 and 4x Sata ports + the graphics port allowing a dual slot card. There is a 450w GPU with a 6+2 that fits as well. They come with 210w or...
The other thought I have is use the motherboard tray and rear panel from a junk MATX case that I have and create a built in computer inside of an entertainment center that my wife wants to build
The HP SFFs usually have an optical drive bay at least that can be added if it’s not there. I use the drive weekly at least as I actually use it to watch DVDs and it runs Plex as well and does all the encoding. My gaming rig hasn’t had an optical drive in a few years, but being I use my...
I knew the 3050 LP was a laptop chip and is not much faster than a 1060 in relative performance. It’s still great for 75w
I’ve thought about building a SFF but I wouldn’t know where to start. I require an optical drive for my uses
