i agree htpc would kick the shit out of PS3. but 1500? I dont know what kind of HTPC you are talking about about my HTPC is about 500-600. and I can play any content I want.
i just got my last night. no dead pixel at all. I had to update my nvidia driver to the latest one.
I love this monitor. I am still tweaking the setting. This monitor is set to Eco mode right out of the box. really dim look. After I changed it to regular mode. perfect !
I ordered it on 12/7 when the price was $304+ 10 shipping. it was shipped the following day.Fedex tracking said it will deliver on 12/10 woot!!
the price is now 360 + 23 shipping. bull shit
I agree. I would use intel on my high end build and AMD on my low end build when i want to keep my cost down like WHS and HTPC build. AMD will get the job done on those build.
I have both Q6600 and E8400. I love them both.
Since I don't play games, I can't tell you regarding game performance. I do video encoding on the 6600 and HD play back on the E8400. I never regret buying those bad boys
I am looking at the following WHS server for storing downloaded media and dvd and blu ray rips
acer Aspire Easystore H340 Intel Atom 1.6Ghz 2GB 1TB GBLAN 4 Bay Hotswap Windows Home Server $349.99
I am also looking at a custom build WHS server. but it will be hard to beat the price of Acer...

everything u need is in there. $560 free shipping.
that receiver even decode HD audio. plenty of HDMI input will do pass through audio + video
you will get decent...
I have the 605. very nice AVR it can decode any HD audio like TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio.
I have the blue ray panny BK-30 and I bit stream to that avr and the avr decode all HD loseless audio. sounds awesome
Windows 7 $49 upgrade is still running . I am pulling the trigger soon. I believe it runs until July 11th.

i guess it would be 7TB since the 1 TB drive that comes with the server has OS on it. I am not sure it comes with the media to reinstall the software if I swap it out with a 2TB drive.
thanks for the post.
I am looking at home server for media storage. and this acer looks like a great deal. I found the acer on Amazon for $349, but the newegg combo deal seems like deal.

I used that above guide to put together a HTPC recently in the same budget range. I am very happy with mine. (see sig)
IDE hard drive should do it for basic HTPC. I am using a IDE DVD writer (plextor) no problem.
The XP that came...
+1
I have the same exact setup.(check my sig). I am very happy with it. I got most of the ideas from the avs forum link. I have a cheap case but does the job well and fits right in the tv stand.
yeah. the laptop is not 9400M, just saying it still do audio over HDMI.
I have the nvidia 9400 also and it does audio over HDMI to my onkyo 605 receiver
I bought this laptop from HP for $750 and it does audio over HDMI.
I have the Nvidia 9400 for HTPC and it does audio over HDMI flawlessly
- HP Pavilion dv5tse Entertainment PC
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (64-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6400 (2.0GHz)...
I am still running Q6600 on my main rig and loving it every min. I don't do a lot of over clocking yet since I don't need to and I don't play that much game.
I'll probably use this rig for a year or two and build an i7 rig. for what I need it is perfect.
both E5200 and E8400 are 65w processors. The Q8200 is a 95w processor though. I don't know if that is a big difference in term of electric bill.
I dont know if the 85% figure is true or not. I read it on avs forum. I didn't want the cpu to be bottle neck in my system. but I couldn't help...
that was mu original thought. read on AVS forum that E5200 is at 85% usage for full HD playback. I am not sure that is true or not. i didnt wnat to take chances.
E8400 = $167.99 newegg
Q8200= $159 newegg
this is for a HTPC
My main desktop is running Q6600, I can do the encoding there if I need to. I am not sure why E8400 is more expensive then the quad core.
Hi all,
I am new here and need some advice.
Which processor is better for a HTPC?
They are same price on both amazon and newegg. Q8200 doesn't have Intel Vt but I am not sure I need that for my HTPC.
I am using it for mainly ripping and playing back HD content and some minor encoding...
