Is the VG248QE still worth the money if you run AMD video cards? (therefore not getting the lightboost/nvidia benefits)...?
I run two 7870's in Crossfire, so I'm trying to decide between the VG248QE and the cheaper ASUS VS239H-P 23-Inch Full-HD LED IPS Monitor.
Hey guys, just a quick request for opinions since I've been out of the game for a while. What's the best deal going right now for a 24" monitor (LED or cheap IPS) under $200 that I will use almost exclusively for gaming?
Only requirements:
-- 23-24" viewable
-- VESA standard mount compatible...
Ok, the deals at MC were too good to pass up, so I bought everything! lol
Here's the final build specs:
CASE: $67.00 -- Antec Three Hundred Two
CPU: $190.00 -- Intel Core i5-3570K
GPU: $420.00 -- (2 in Xfire!) Powercoler HD7870 MYST 2GB (Tahiti LE)
SSD: $150.00 -- SAMUNG 840 Series 250GB...
I just placed the order for the video card (Powercolor 7870 MYST 2GB -- aka "the HD7930", lol -- for $209)... so, after years of being away, it has officially begun again... w00t! :D
Unfortunately, the 520W PSU was re-purposed for my WHS rig a few years ago. I've been away from PC gaming for some time now, but I did build a great HTPC and 10TB WHS rig during that time. :)
I think the only sticking point is the SSD. I'll keep my eye out for a decent deal on a 256GB in the...
I run older SSD's in my HTPC's, so I know the benefits... just not sure where to save a few more bucks to hit my $1000 mark (which is already $250 more than my wife approved... lol!).
Regarding the video card: The 7870 Myst card will probably have a twin in CF before BF4 comes out, so I may...
Is that TX750 PSU Crossfire-ready? I don't see that listed anywhere... or does it even matter if it's listed? Will it still have have the 4+4 connectors for two cards?
Awesome feedback, but I'm really clueless as to which 128GB SSD would be worth it! lol
As for the 7870 MYST OC info, the HardOCP review is what caught my eye:

Thanks for the feedback! I do plan to go CF as soon as I can hide another $200-$300 from the Mrs! LOL! That's the reason for the large PSU up front, for sure.
The SSD size is definitely larger than I need, but none of the cheaper 128GB options appear to have the same read/write performance...
1) What will you be doing with this PC?
One Purpose: Gaming.
One Goal: Need to be able to run Max/Ultra graphics settings at 1920x1200 on BF3, Bioshock Infinite, and upcoming BF4.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1000, tax and shipping included
3) Which country do you...
Here's the deal: I'm deploying with the military for one year, and I'd like to pick up a decent 1 to 2TB external drive to drag my media around during that time. However, I like to plan ahead, so I really want a drive that will be the best to plug in as additional storage in my Home Theater when...

The container you might want to use with the xbox and VMC is .dvr-ms
1) I rip and re-author to VOB format using DVD Shrink 3.2 -- This includes removing ALL extras and ALL menus, so you're left with only the movie. (If you have enough storage space, you can keep an ISO version on the HDD...
stay away from that card unless you like headaches...
That said, have you considered the newer Nvidia onboard chipsets? The 8200/8300/9300/9400 chipsets can output LPCM 7.1 and video over a single HDMI. Let your receiver do the work...
Here's my planned build:

I was actually considering the SS LC17 and the Antec Max fusion as higher capacity alternatives... I'm just not sure that I have that much room in my TV stand. I'll have to do some very precise measuring before I pull the trigger.
Thanks for the tip!
There are a ton of 4-HDD SATA modules out there, but they don't seem to come in a standard size. Some are measured in "bays," but the Enlight model Logan used doesnt say how many "bays" it uses -- at least I can't find where it says so.
I'd really like to use one that I know fits just right...
ouch, that's an expensive server case! :( The 4 HDD hotswap module is supposedly sold separately... I'll have to dig for one. Did you get the whole case, or just the module?
Great mod! I'll have to check out the Fusion case when it arrives to see if I can do the same!
Do you always keep it topless like that in your cabinet!? that's some serious dust man! It's time for the dustbuster and some good cleaning... and then find the lid before your system eats...
I know this has probably been debated to death around here, but is the trade off in clock speed really worth the extra cores for ripping/streaming? With the improved 9400 graphics, won't most of the encoding/decoding be done by the tuner and IGP, rather than the CPU?
Perhaps you're right...
I mainly use Orb for serving media to my iPhone over 3G and WIFI, including live TV. :)
Thanks for the tip! Do you have any complaints about the nMediaPC case? I've looked at the HTPC 1000B model -- it has four internal 3.5" bays! -- but I kept reading about problems with airflow and other...
you obviously havent played or even seen AOC... the combat is fully interactive... attack combos require multiple keys, and strafing/moving wins the day... especially during PvP engagements.
I'm also in the market for a laptop I can use for gaming... but my budget is 3k, so i hope that i have...
anyone find a guaranteed source for 226BW S-panel monitors?
I'm not sure the CW is worth the extra 80 bones just for the color gamut improvement... DOH!
my problem with the 226bw is that I need a way to guarantee an S-panel, or their just not worth the hassle... After all, it's a gift, so RMAing will be a pain the butt - not to mention embarrassing!
If you have a source for bonafied guaranteed S-panel 226bw's, please share!
