NVIDIA Allegedly Moving Ampere to 7nm TSMC in 2021

This ^^^^^ you just dont move a chip to a new fab and process. The chips are designed with both fab capability and process in mind not to mention the NDAs where usually a team can only have access to one fabs design docs. A super refresh next summer on TSMC sure. Moving exciting cards that...

Threadripper or 3900X - mixed use.

For me at least workstation gets the big box. I would ideally have the 24/32c threadripper with 128gb of ram and something like the 10900K with the 3080ti. I've been doing a lot of software builds and AI/DL/ML experimentation. It will do some video editing/encoding too. I was going to go...

Threadripper or 3900X - mixed use.

Should have it mostly running this weekend it will be end of next week before its at full speed. I live in BFE and shipping times are a bit long right now (cooler and GPU are lagging)... I can pull the 5700XT out of game rig and use the stock cooler worst case. Like OP this machine is going to...

I will find out this weekend. Picking up a 3900X and X470 board from a friend... I also belong to the camp of selling my 1600/B350 combo for an intel box. So we shall see.

To add to this... I just found out Ryzen 3000 supports 128GB of RAM..... I need to count PCI-e lanes but that does change some stuff for me.

Intel discrete GPU struggles: won't compete against NVIDIA or AMD

Intel obliterates new Epyc in "answer" to flawed benchmark

Its going to come down to pricing if you can get the 64C Epyc for the same or less cost as the 28C Xeon. Or 2 64C system for the price of the 9282. Its going to sway people... The 9282 is not going to be a cheap CPU and will only be viable in the performance at all costs builds

AMD drops Threadripper3 from latest roadmap-Tom's

Ideally you want the devices that talk to each other on the same segment. There is a (relatively) large latency hit when you have to traverse the bridge. I would actually put networking and peripherals next to the CPU and everything else on the chipset... For my use case but outside of server...

AMD drops Threadripper3 from latest roadmap-Tom's

I know I'm not the common use case but there market for machines like I mentioned exist. I will correct one thing above. 3D graphics don't use the full 16X slot but compute use does. Especially if you are moving a lot of data in and out of VRAM. Its a totally different world than gaming. Right...

AMD drops Threadripper3 from latest roadmap-Tom's

If I build what I want I will need 56 PCI-e lanes. I think you are also missing that some of those 40 lanes are shared. I'm rather annoyed with my 2700X that I have to choose between the second NVME slot and the 3rd 8x/16x slot. (yes I know it has less lanes to start with) Most of the work I'm...

Well that would suck. I'm planning on building a new workstation this summer/fall with TR3 if its not a product Cascade Lake X it is. Though I tend to agree with the thinking above that it will be a rebrand and more Workstation Focused than gamer focused. Which is fine with me. I want a...

Just got a dual XEON x58 platform, few questions

Because snapshot is VMware speak and they have to be different. I think it was trademarked for a while too. Did you create an expanding disk or a fixed size one. It might not be a checkpoint issue. But you should shutdown merge/delete the snaps and then disable the feature.

Clear roads just cold. They run crazy rich until they start to warm up. Yes long trips show less of a decrease but average week there is a pretty drastic change vs 30ishF and above. AAA Study Claims Cold Weather Significantly Shortens EV Range

My gas powered car takes a 20-30% mileage hit in cold weather too. Combine it what actually have to use the AWD there is a big difference. I think both cars are showing around 14ish MPG right now since the cold snap and they are turbo 4's
