    HP Notebooks any good?

another thumbs up here as well. i've owned dell, ibm, and hp laptops. ibm is my fav, but when it comes down to price and what you get for the money, hp has 'em both beat. unfortunately i've had to deal with customer service from all 3 vendors. fortunately, however, i've had pleasant...

Running Vista Without Activation For 1 Year

Doesn't this also mean that security/feature updates will not be available to download? Unless I understand wrong, you have to activate in order to receive these updates (I'm not talking about other tools available out there to activate). I wouldn't want to run my machine for 1+ years...

    Mobile Web Version?

As I sit here surfing the forum on my Treo 700w, I can't help but wonder if there is a mobile web version available? I've tried searching for something but haven't had any luck. Is there such a thing or will there be in the future? If not, is there a portal site out there I can go through...

    Free Remote Desktop program?

www.logmein.com When you sign up it gives you a trial period for the 'pro' version but after that it reverts to the free version. Ten times better than windows remote desktop and you can access it from any PC through HTTP connection. Great if you don't have admin rights or need access from...

    1gb+1gb - add 512+512?

Curently running (2) 1gb chips. There are 4 slots on the mobo (two blue, two black). The 1gb's are in the blue. I have two 512mb chips that I was thinking to put into the black slots to give me 3gb total. Is it worth it to do this for the extra memory or will I see any loss in speed? No...

IDE PCI Controller, SATA on Mobo

My custom built died and I really didn't have time to wait for parts or fix it (don't know what's not working in it yet). I went out and bought an HP 1640n. It doesn't have IDE on the mobo, only SATA. Running a 250gb on that. I put a CMD-648 PCI Controller in to hook up my hard drives to...

    Looking for a good scanner

I don't need an all-in-one machine. In fact, I'm not going to be printing these on my printer anyways. I'll have them sent out to a lab. As for memory, not an issue. I have more HD space and memory than is needed (I work with very large files on a daily basis). Also, I will be burning the...

    Looking for a good scanner

I found some great old baby photos of my wife that I want to scan and archive. Perhaps even have some larger prints made. And of course put them on our website ;) I'm not really sure what to look for in scanners. I haven't bought one since 2000, and I'm sure the technology has advanced...

    Photo's from canada - need help w/ 1st one

That's because he used a slow shutter speed to give the look of motion. Otherwise, it would look like a the water was frozen in place. Much better the way the OP did it IMO.

    Photo's from canada - need help w/ 1st one

Ahh... wow. See now that I can see it and after that processing that HorsePunchKid did, it looks like a great photo. Still just a tad bright up there, but you could always crop that out. I like it though. Beautiful picture.

    Photo's from canada - need help w/ 1st one

blue/purple tinging is called chromatic abreation <spelling?>. Most digital cameras suffer from this problem. It's mainly noticable with light coming through trees. Nothing you can really do to 'fix' it without post processing. Oh, and can you resize the photos next time? I'm on a 21"...

    Looking to purchase new camera..

Actually all cameras focus that way. Out of focus can make blurry shots, but the majority of the time it has to do with the shutter speed being too slow and camera shake.

Anyone here bougth batteries from Ebay?

I'm getting ready to buy some batteries for my 350D. $9 bucks after shipping... can't beat that. Also, I know another member here, ncn preacher, has ordered these batteries off Ebay and he says their great. In fact, they hold more charge than the 750mah that comes with the camera.

    Looking to purchase new camera..

Just to answer a question of yours about blurry pics.... This has to do with having a slow shutter speed and camera shake or subject movement. It can be fixed by having a faster shutter speed, or using a tripod. However, if you use a faster shutterspeed under low light conditions, you will...

    Rebel XT kit lens alternative?

Although that is the statement from Canon, www.dpreview.com had a review of the Rebel XT and they noticed a slightly sharper image with that kit lense over the 20D's kit lense. They have pictures in the review which show them side by side. Check them out.

    Pictures From the Zoo

Now that you say that... Most of the African animals were sleeping when I went by. I'm hoping that it was just the time of the day that I was there. And perhaps the weather. I might be back there this coming weekend, so I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed. se7en1ne, shots were taken...

    Pictures From the Zoo

The wifey and I took a trip to the NC Zoo this past Saturday. It ended up being overcast most of the day and rained a bit towards the end. I purchased a one year pass, so hopefully I'll be able to get some more shots under better weather. Here's a few I thought were decent:

dropped my canon a60, still powers on; can it be fixed?

I know Canon will charge you so much money to get it fixed, it won't be worth the price of the camera. I guess it depends how comfortable you are with taking it apart. If you are confident, try to get a cheap/broken one off ebay or something else. Switch out the broken parts. Before...

    Looking for a camera

Are you wanting this for video or photo use? Sounds to me like you are wanting to do video. First off... your not going to get very good video quality on a photo camera. Likewise, photos aren't that great from a video camera. Also, most cameras in that price range will not allow you to zoom...

    Cool Weather Photos.

Those are pretty cool. I wonder if they were taken really late and a slow shutter speed was used to get the whispy effect. If I went outside, looked up, and saw those clouds... my first thought would be its all over. Then, I'd run inside and grab my 350D :D

I'm planning to get this hood... I would have bought it from onecall when i ordered all my other gear, but they've been out of stock. I've been trying to find a local place here that has it, but no luck. I would like to have it for the zoo this Saturday. I'm probably not going to get a hood...

    Good Camera

I would recomend looking at the Canon A80. I always keep one with me in my bag along with the DSLR. I just bought an A95 for the father-in-law for $300, so the A80 can prob be had around $200. If you can afford the extra $100 though, the A95 is a gem.

    A Few From Tonight (Stars)

Just curious.... is there a reason you went with a f1.8 instead of a higher value? With a longer DOF, you would have had to use a longer exposure, but I think it would have made the sky a little sharper? I love the pics though... I need to work on my night photography.

Wifey was very giving last night!

Is that over there at Reedy Creek park? I know they have some sort of nature preserve, but I've never been in there. I've walked many miles on the trails there. I had a lot of great pictures from there, but lost them due to a hard drive crash awhile back.

Wifey was very giving last night!

Well, being married is quite different from being single. When you single, you have your own money and you can do whatever you want with it. As long as you pay your rent, and buy some food, you can blow it all away as you choose. However, being married is a completly different ball game...

Wifey was very giving last night!

Thanks for the tips. I've been very impressed with battery life so far. I shot from 2pm to 11pm with flash, filled up a 1gb card, and a quarter of another 1gb card and the battery was still going strong. I'll have to try for the grip and the batteries towards the end of June (b-day). The...
