I built a new rig 3 weeks ago (Intel CD2 Wolfdale @4.0GHz, 4GB Dominiator, etc. etc.) and a spanking new 3870x2 and after reading this review I just may go out and pick another one up.
I really think ATi is on the right track again and putting out products that are worthy of enthusiast...
There is not one shred or semblance of scientific testing with HardOcp. You are merely taking Brent or Kyle at their words it's that simple.
I'm ok with that and so are many others because as readers we trust them. But lets stop petting our asses on this one, their testing is in no way...
We can all blame this man for the current state of malaise in our beloved video performance sector.
Please...please...line up in single file ...baseball bats up near the front, shotguns in the rear.
God I hate that man.
LOL PFFFFT....are you kidding? I have three of those hooked up to an overclocked P2 Celeron OC'd in an old refrigerator for guidance trajectory... and I live in South Florida.
What really is the most depressing part is not only was 2007 a complete hardware flop but it was one of the best years for PC game titles
Everyone on the hardware front completely and utterly failed to match the Development houses in making 2007 a really spectacular year.
Let's hope they...
Fellas this is not hard to understand.
How is AMD, who not only is a generation already behind Intel and possible rumors of really being two generations behind going to somehow leap over that. How in God's holy name could AMD leap over two generations when their Phenom processors will bring in...
No wonder Hector is leaving ...because sure as all hell he was going to be given the boot after todays reviews.
Wow...just plain wow. This just rounds out the most perfect year of disappointments for me on the hardware front. Never again will I wait for another platform ever again.
I was...
Just to add to Kamerific comments,
Part of loving this hobby is really getting behind groups of engineers and rooting for them. Brand loyalties in video cards is really no different than automobile enthusiasts. Our hobbies bring us massive amounts of joy and we feel compelled to give back our...
Well after messing around with all the resolutions I found one setup that I am happy with until my new AMD Spider rig is purchased a few weeks from now.
My current rig.
AMD 4000+ Single Core @ 2.6GHz
ATi X1900XTX
2GB DDR 533 memory.
Dell 2405 24" LCD Monitor
I can either play at...
Honestly Dude a 30" Dell is not really a Gamers panel if you want to experience the absolute latest games with everything turned up. You are always going to be one or possibly two generations behind before you can really appreciate it at that resolution.
To be honest I think the 24" Dell's...
Unless of course AMD new modus operandi is to release upper mid range cards and if you want "Flagship" performance you need to go Crossfire.
Which I think is a total cop out.
LOL how is it that they could have shown us all those demo movies this past year at E3 and such with the cards out then but now it runs like hummus?
Something cannot be right, unless of course that explains why AMD is pushing quad Crossfire and Nvidia's tri fire :D
It wasn't rage, it was needed. Because like clock work every time ATi comes out with a card for the past couple of years you begin to talk down their latest offering. All anyone has to do is bring up old threads about new launches and there you are doing your bit.
My contention was simple...
...and you know this how?
You keep harping on how this card is no big deal, nothing to see here people move along type posts, with ZERO to back it up.
Why not wait for Brent's review eh Chief.
*If
They fixed the AA.
They fixed the memory latency.
Shrunk the thing smaller than my peeper in a cold shower.
Raised the clock speed.
Added faster memory.
Made it cheeper for consumers.
This is a bonified win for ATi not so much for being competitive again but for...
If all the rumors pouring out about how great this flagship will be I don't care if they call it the MohammedBruceAli XT version. The card is at 55na, fixed AA and a host of other changes. This is what the R600 was supposed to be and more.
AMD in the month of November is going to be coming...
Do you really think AMD would release another card with the same AA problems
All the rumors suggest that this card will be what the R600 was supposed to be. That they not only fixed the AA issue but also improved the energy efficiency and the memory latency.
All of it is rumor of...
This post is complete and utter garbage.
Yea, it's such an embarrassing chapter that's why AMD released Barcelona in a celebratory party in 7 countries.
I call it Barcy simply because it was part of my culture growing up that everyone got a nick name of sorts (grew up in N.Y.).
Barcelona is a great name and a beautiful city, I call it Barcy because like all things beautiful it deserves a girls name.
But the original poster who's life...
Hey Peoples,
It just occurred to me sitting here at work...shouldn't Barcy fit right on in the Asus 4x4 L1N64 board that came out late last year?
It's a socket F board and would be an ideal canidate to test Barcy in a desktop environment. Especially considering how 4x4 was slammed for being...
(Dons dusty potato sack clothes and grabs pitchfork)
After sitting through the malaise that Anand's reviews reported yesterday and after sitting through an equally mind numbing streaming launch celebration late last night I was finally after a year + of waiting, ready to finally see some real...
You contradicted yourself and made my point in your own response. AMD had given Anand the servers to test server applications. They did not ask him to rip off one of the PCI risers slap on an 8800GTX and then give a blanket statement on how Phenom (an enthusiast desktop processor with an...
As a supposed journalist he should have kept his mouth shut.
Don't get me wrong I like the idea of a normal Joe throwing an 8800GTX on the thing and posting his results so we could all break it apart and discuss it. But for a hardware journalistic review site I believe that it was simply...
So Anand takes a Server processor on a Server board with Server Memory and comes to the conclusion that Phenom, a Desktop processor that runs on a Desktop enthusiast board with Desktop enthusiast memory which is not even out yet is not faster clock for clock than a Core 2 Duo.
Fair...

Looks like Barcy is a winner
I am looking forward to Hard's review because Anand's frankly sucked monkey balls. It read as though it had been massively rushed, but given that they are such an Intel pom pom outfit and they like Barcy speakes volumes.
I am not saying the Inquirer was right or wrong and that really is not the issue for me. They are a sensationalist news site who apparently is not under any NDA. So I take their story with a grain of salt.
My knit pick issue is why would anyone Op Ed an article without explaining or proving why...
No offense to Kyle but does he have a 3.0GHz Phenom or at least one that can be OC'd to that speed?
Because if he does not than why should anyone give more credibility to his statements than the guy who saw it with his own eyes in the original article?
Wow two days before my 32'nd birthday :)
This should be a very interesting time in computing that we have not see in quite a while. By this date in November we should see:
SP1 for Vista
G92 From Nvidia
*Possible refresh of the ATi R600
AMD RD790 Mobo
AMD Barcy and Phenom Processors...
Well then uh...
1) Fine.
2) I can see that now.
3) I guess you are correct.
4) Just a misunderstanding.
Ok then... well that about settles it...glad you see things my way... errr...umm it's ok I forgive you and uh don't let it happen again. :D
No problem Mate sorry I took it out...
1) I'm not begging.
2) This thread is dedicated to the story to which the editors posted. Where else am I supposed to ask questions about this event ...the for sale section
3) Brent and others have graced us in the forums many times and have answered their readers with their...
The only person that can debunk this retarded argument of whether AMD was pulling a fast one by lying about it's demo model is the HardOCP journalist that were there.
I personally believe they would never try to pull a stupid stunt like that, but it would be cool to hear it from the editors...
Oh Jesus Christ like AMD would fake having a real Phenom processor  Some people need to seriously take their heads out of their asses.
This is absolutely positively the best news I have seen on AMD for a long while and I am truly excited.
They hit 3GHz ...AWESOME.
Thanks for the article Fellas as always.
However, we care more about what is going on now rather than 2 years from now. AMD is so keen to talk about what they are working in the distant future yet you don't hear a peep out of them about products that will reportedly be released in a short...
AMD is in a huge cash crunch right now. The purchase of ATi was clearly done at the wrong time considering that they had to borrow 2 billion from existing investors just to keep the business running.
AMD would have been better served picking up ATi after Barcelona's release in the market...
My number was 600 Million and the plus meant change cowboy ;)
I had a gut feeling with AMD losing contracts with Motorola that it would hurt them more than what analysts have been predicting.
In any case AMD is going through the 2 billion they borrowed from investors like wild fire.
I know this is going to sound nuts but I'm in for 600+ Million.
After hearing yesterdays Conference call ...or the lack there of I have a sneaky suspicion that the bomb is going to drop in the coming days.
If Barcy is released only at 2.0GHz and god forbid it's late again...AMD is in...
