After many hours looking at other posts, it looks like the dell variant of this NIC does not like 4x slots. Even though the Intel spec says it does. Only 8x and 16x slots seem to work.
Have a Dell T640 Server (Dual CPU) that I just installed an X550-T2 to replace the Broadcom onboard Nics. Running Server 2019.
When I initially installed the card, I had it on the left side of the board, which can only be used if you have both CPU sockets populated.
When I ran a speed test I...
One of the network cabinets at my work i did. Contents (Top to Bottom) 48 port Cat 6 patch panel, Netgear GS748T, APC SMTL750RM2UC, Netgear GS510TPP, APC SCL500RM1UC.
Yellow wire bugs me too, just not had time to put it in the patch panel..yet!
That might be true if we were not locked in on the software we use. As it stands, over 50% is licensing fees to Microsoft. They know businesses have to and will pay for it. And no, not "being a dick" at all. I agree there are ways for others but not in my specific situation.
Thanks for the tip on OBS. I agree stability is a key factor and important in this setup.
As far as backups, we do have 3 going every day: network, off-site physical media, and cloud so hopefully that is enough. I would love a redundant but you are right, time will tell.
The issue I'm...
I don't remember all the specs since I am not in front of it. Its a xeon 4 core v3 something on a supermicro board, 16gb ram, and 2 raid arrays in raid 1 with WD 7200 black drives. Those drives are so slow and definitely should not be in that type of configuration.
The software is by an outside...
No VMs. Just SQL on server 2019.
Yes, there are backups but sadly, only one server. It's a small city so the demand on the server is not that high and can't afford a fail over server. The one it is replacing should have been replaced like 4 years ago
Arrived yesterday, new Dell T640 Server for work. Had a lot of fun getting it unboxed and starting initial setup.
Specs:
2x Intel Xeon Silver 4215R (3.2G, 8C/16T)
12x 8GB RDIMM
4x 960GB SSD SAS MU in RAID 10
(8 Drive Chassis For Future Drives)
Boss Card with 2x 256GB NVME in Raid 1
Server 2019...
That is an excellent suggestion. I did not even look up the channel numbers. Thanks
It will have a minimum of 48, per slavie suggestion, but i can go above 64gb as in the original quote.
Update: So after looking at the current server, the hard drives are holding the system back. There is huge...
With the above config, server 19, 15 user cals, 5 remote desktop cals, sql + 15 cals, about $12,500 total price.
City has no other servers at the moment , but maybe in future if need comes up. I have one VM running on an old server 2008 instance cause of some very old software for the police...
Currently, it's a Server 12 r2 with 2 7200k drives in raid 1 with a 2nd raid for the OS.
Not opposed to adding more ram. I have to look again but I think we have 32gb now and it usually is at 60% usage when the database is running.
The drives are a huge performance drag being that slow when a...
Getting ready to buy a new server for my work. 15 concurrent users using SQL database software. Have about 200GB of data currently in the database, with growth rate of 0.5 GB per month.
PowerEdge R540 Server
2x Intel Xeon Silver 4215 (2.5G, 8C/16T)
8x 8GB RDIMM
4x 960GB SSD SAS MU in RAID 10...
So, after reading so many articles and spec sheets, I can confirm this setup works. (Kinda, see below) Spent a few days trying to find someone or anyone who had done this before and found nothing. So figured I would put it out there in case someone else was looking at doing the same thing.
Dell...
I was looking at Ubiquiti as an option.
Maybe 10 users daily and then during events surging to 25+ on an outdoor model.
Wanted to get the inside done then look at an external AP for events in the parking lot.
Charter Fiber with a new Foritnet Firewall.
I don't know the model number off the top of my head. Good unit though with multiple Lan ports for isolation.
The small city I work for is looking to setup public WiFi in the building.
Does anyone have any recommendations on a brand or specific models? Will only need 3 APs to cover all of the building as the public areas are not very large and a single floor.
My old Dell Vostro, with an upgrade to a T9300 @ 2.50GH and 8GB Ram could not handle Netflix at 1080p. Granted , it had a nVidia 7400 but even with hardware acceleration off, it would buffer and stall a lot.
I was able to do some 720p but even then it was a struggle. If you drop the quality...
Have six iPads I need to store for 4 months until my group needs them again. I have all the batteries charged to 100% and have the iPads turned off.
Any other suggestions for safe storage such as anti static bags or any other types of protection for them during this time period?
I am running the standard BOINC Client.
Hyper Threading is great for some applications, but not for work like this. Each core's FPU is 95-98% saturated with the work units.
Having HT on will give you a 5-10% boost in efficiency (maybe), but it also required more power and creates more heat on...
Little Update: So I have been impressed so far at my older hardware crunching threw these S@H Work Units.
My Server is getting about 4,100.45 Average Per Day ( 12 CPU Cores - HT off - 75% Work Load)
My Desktop is getting about 4,086.82 Average Per Day ( 6 CPU Cores - HT off - 100% Work Load +...
Fired up my old F@H rig and got Boinc going.
Not much cause it cpu only but maybe it help team out.
Specs:
CPU type GenuineIntel
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU L5640 @ 2.27GHz
Number of processors 12
Coprocessors AMD AMD Radeon HD 6350/6450/7450/7470/R5 230 series (Caicos) (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1848...
I know i am week or two late on this response. I own several super micro boards with this configuration. I have used adapters in all of them to power the second cpu 8 pin port with no issue. Just get a pcie to 8 pin adapter and you are fine. I will take some photos of one of my servers Wednesday...
Sorry for the confusion, let me attempt to clarify. The "Dell" was the system I was using to ping that IP to identify what it was.
I wanted to include the entire packet report so I did not leave any detail out. Totally my bad for not listing that information.
192.168.44.1 reports back as LAN...
When I ping that address, it comes back as the Sonicwall device!
This is not the IP i use to log into the device so I did not expect that.
I confirmed that MAC address does match the unit in the building.
Thoughts?
Has anyone seen something like this before from Sonicwall ??
Every Minute is a UDP packet dropped from the same place and destination.
I just can't seem to be able to stop it .. maybe i am in the wrong settings area.
Help or Ideas please .....
Totally understand! I have been in that position before. I hope they change the roll out policy on this shortly so it easier for everyone. Until then, maybe you can do more research on this and let everyone know what you find out.
Here is an article about this upgrade.
"who informed me that...
