Odyssey Neo G8 - 4K 240 Hz 32" Quantum Mini LED

Was real tempted to get the G8 at 999 euros on sale but I think I'm going to pass and wait until CES to see if there's something better in the pipeline.

Alright so the scan lines thing is a non issue, text clarity is incredible compared to my 1440p monitor, with the default set up and local dimming turned to high with the contrast enhancer turned on this thing gets crazy bright and the FALD solution is definitely doing it's job. Some blooming in some scenarios. For 650 bucks I'm absolutely keeping this thing. Can anyone tell me why CoreSync is greyed out and when I try to enable it it says "function not available?"

Went through the whole thread and now that people have had the Neo G8/G7 for awhile can we put some settings and calibrations everyone has settled on.

I know calibration can be different from monitor to montior but things like Picture Mode, Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Color, Contrast Enhancer, Black Level, Local Dimming and Black Equalizer, etc could be a nice starting point for people that just got it like me.

I'm looking into buying a calibration device, just don't feel like coughing up the cash yet. I've just left it at stock, but made sure I turned on the contrast enhancer, otherwise the monitor looks dark and colorless. The neo G7 after one week I can very readily say is the best monitor I've ever owned. There some minor draw backs, but not enough for me to care. I'll write up a detailed impressions / review at some point. I worked on it all week this week programming and I have to say my eyes feel good, I didn't realize what a huge difference text clarity would make moving from a 1440p 32 inch panel to a 4k 32 inch panel. A lot more energy and less tired eyes after 8 hours I really the best part so far.

Also going to ask one more time, if anyone can tell me how to get CoreSync to work with the infinity core lighting please let me know.

Just to necro this a bit, if you're wondering about CoreSync, it only works over HDMI (why i dont know), so until HDMI 2.1 is fixed, you can't use it to sync to whatever you're watching. Hopefully there's a new firmware at some point that resolves the issues with HDMI 2.1.

Once every couple of days I have to turn my monitor off and on because I get these wild screen artifacts. Still, no firmware update to address it. That and the scanlines on some colors are my only complaints. I would get the new LG 27" Oled 240hz but I don't want to go down to 108 PPI.

Weird how they manage to break that when my G70A CoreSync works just fine over DP. You'd think it would be mostly same code on all of these.

I have been considering getting the Neo G7 or G8 if it goes on a good enough sale but looks like it definitely needs more work.

Have ANY new 4K 240Hz monitors been announced at CES yet? Or will the Neo G8 continue to remain the sole option for 2023.

So if you want, you can trick HDMI 2.1 into displaying 10 bit 165hz and it appears to be working. I put the setting on with a DP 1.4 cable, plugged in an HDMI 2.1 cable, and unplugged the DP cable. CoreSync is still broken but you can use HDMI 2.1, just don't turn the monitor off, let it go to sleep. Had to do it because I wanted to watch Netflix. Unfortunately Netflix on PC seems bad even with HDR and 4k.

Unfortunately none so far. Probably the best competitor would be the PG32UQXR at 160 Hz with flat IPS panel and 576 zones. If it is priced competitively with the Samsungs which already at the end of the year were selling at about 900 and 1000 euros for G7/G8 respectively.

With so far no release date and pricing for the "dual 32 inch 4K" 57 inch super ultrawide, we don't know if it's even going to support 240 Hz over HDMI 2.1 at any resolution. The G8 seems a bit more enticing to me as I would like something larger with better HDR than my 28" 4K 144 Hz Samsung G70A, without going down the LG C2 42" road despite it being a great value at around 900 euros.

Is there only the RGB setting of the color balance under the Color menu or is there another hidden expert menu to calibrate the monitor completely as I know it from TV/projectors.

Firmware update is finally out for this monitor after almost 6 months. No clue what it did but I do know HDR on desktop is still broken and blown out.

Ya I'm trepidations about upgrading the firmware as Samsung has a history of making things actually worse. Like neutering brightness, messing up EOTF curves etc.

How do they not release patch notes? Insane. Mine is working well enough to not bother then.

The latest patch fixed the issue with my Neo G7 where it wouldn't display HDR10+ content correctly.

i believe you, but can i see this from samsung anywhere? There's no where to download firmware on their support page either, so I'm not sure where people are getting updates, any tips? https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/?model=N0054074&modelCode=LS32BG852NNXGO
Samsung hasn't updated the support pages for these monitors yet. I got the direct download links from a post on Reddit.

Updated firmware to 1006, still getting weird visual artifacts sometimes when waking computer up from sleep.

Anyone else get some desktop flickering on occasion? I'm wondering if it's my GPU drivers or my screen. I just get a random flicker like once an hour.

I have been getting flickering and loss of display connections recently myself with the older G7 240hz. It would only occasionally happened until updated to the newest drivers then couldn't get a picture once past the bios. It was still booting into windows since I could hear all the sounds. I did a fresh reinstall of windows last night and see to be ok now.

Yeahhhh, I've been meaning to reinstall windows for some time, if I do I guess I'll go to 11. It's not bothersome enough for me to care really, but I'd prefer to not have the flicker. It doesn't seem to happen in games. It honestly seems like a dual monitor issue. Getting all of my work repositories and software up on a fresh install is just such a pain in the ass I don't want to do it.

Might be. I couldn't get a picture at all on my CX til I wiped the system. Just said not connected. I hooked up my laptop to the monitor and CX and both worked fine. Tried several cables and all did the same. Something with recent drivers must of been borked.

What GPU are you on if you don't mind me asking? I changed my Display port cables out with brand new 2.0 cables. I had to throw one old one away, it was so busted I thought my monitor went bad.

EVGA 3080ti. Been fine for a few days now with the latest drivers. So idk something got borked somewhere with Nvidia's driver.

Hello friends, I have a question for you, a week ago I bought the neo g8 and when it shows gray tones you can see some marks that do not move in the lower left part of the screen. When I activate the VRR option the screen no longer shows those marks and everything looks perfect. is this normal?

That doesn't look normal at all. My G7 doesn't do that no matter what settings I use. When you say "the VRR option", do you mean the one labelled "FreeSync Premium Pro", or the one labelled "VRR Control"?

Hi mate i mean vrr control, when i activate it the screen looks perfect without any Mark. So i think this isn't a hardware failure, a hardware failure appears in all situations i think...

Thanks!

Photo vrr control on and off
