Mass Effect: Andromeda Deluxe $4.79 at EA/Origin

Interesting. I haven't thought about this game since the rough launch. Worth a playthrough in 2022?

Coincidentally, ME Legendary Edition is free on PS+ this month, which is super nice since I haven't had a chance to buy/play it yet. Would prefer to play that on PC (where I played the originals), but for free I'm good with playing on a controller.

I enjoyed the game, but it definitely has a different feel to it.
The gameplay is a solid evolution of the series. The added verticality makes it interesting, too. Multiplayer is still fun. The story and characters are insufferable, though, and that is what makes it rough for me.

I've gone through about 4 runs in this game, and I find more and more things to like about it every time, except for the 99% completed bug that haunts me every run no matter what I do.

This may be the best explanation of my feelings for the game too. I really enjoyed it, but the characters were so underwhelming compared to the original trilogy.

To be fair though they really knocked out of the park in the original trilogy for characters. I think they just didn't have enough time to flesh it out as much, which hurt the story.

Well, there were three games to help develop the characters. Mass Effect Andromeda never got that chance. The game really should be compared to Mass Effect 1, not the entire trilogy. I would agree that there are fewer compelling characters. Hell, there are probably too many and not enough chance for some of them to stand out. Drak was a surprise and easily as good as most of your trilogy characters. Unfortunately, your protagonists aren't even half as fun to play or as interesting as Commander Shepard.

It was a decent game to play, particularly after they patched out some egregious rendering bugs. The change from Unreal and the toolset that BioWare knew over to Frostbite definitely shows in some of the artwork. But some good looking large, open play areas, some interesting encounters and puzzles. Agreed dialogue and characterization not as good as ME trilogy or even ME1 in some cases. Only thing that really bugged me was the arbitrary short max range (like 100 meters) of my 'sniper' weapons given the huuuuge open areas.

If you liked Mass Effect at all, this is a buy at this price.
