A new CPU frequency world record achieved by Elmor.

It was August 2014 when the highest frequency ever for a desktop CPU was achieved with AMD FX 8370 processor. It was a 8722.78 MHz overclock for a CPU that had a default frequency of 4.0 GHz. More than 8 years later, this record has now been broken again, but with an entirely new CPU.

The fuck is Intel feeding these things? Their 10nm (Intel 7) process on steroids or something, that ain't natural. Somebody get that thing to fill a cup.

LOL
They are feeding that thing all the power it could ever want.
Intel's process node can handle some serious power draw.

We just need cooling solutions to make some progress. Let go back to Direct Die!
I wonder how log it is before Intel and AMD just start shipping these direct die with a factory-installed liquid plate maybe some sort of standardized dripless quick disconnect for 3'rd party coolers.

still insane that the record took 8 years and several generations to break!
No kidding. It just shows how hard of a ceiling the single core CPU frequency has come up against. Intel hit 4 GHz back in 2004 and since then there have only been minuscule improvements in stock frequencies much of which is only possible because of turbo boosts which basically amount to manufacturer-sanctioned overclocks.

If this were 2002, records such as this would last months at best and within a year the previous year's record would have been doubled.

Not gonna lie, I had to look at that LN2 pot twice as it looks like it has a sand boa in it! 🙃
