Bethesda Charging $2.50 For Horse Armor?

Once again, do you feel like the amount of content in Oblivion is not worth $50, or do you feel that if you had horse armor that then it would finally be worth $50? Come on.

If you're getting a good deal out of the original price for the content, which there is a ton of, you logically have to conclude that you're getting a new hole ripped in you for what they are charging for what it is.

Lol, so now you are trying to say that there is nothing to earn in Xbox360 games? Are you maybe confusing unlocks (stuff already built into the game) with bonus content that you download after you purchase the game?

If practices like this keep gaining momentum , there wont be a thing as unlocks.

But can you really blame the Xbox Live Marketplace for this? Bethesda is also charging for the Horse Armor on PCs, which has nothing to do with the Xbox Live Marketplace.

How do you think the Xbox community would react if Bethesda/Microsoft only charged Xbox users and gave it to PC users free? They would be outraged, and Bethesda/Microsoft knew this. Consider this, who do you think is more likely to purchase these booster packs? Xbox users, because of Xbox live's limitations to DL community made content. They know theres a bigger market there, so thats who thier targeting. PC users are being offered this as a front not to piss off Live users.

Exactly. Bonus content that's available for purchase RIGHT after launch? Allow me to roll my eyes  Should've been in the game, regardless of how useful it is... though, it's funny how the AI has been designed to constantly go after my horse...

Yeah, ok. And pretty soon they'll take away high scores too.

Seriously, listen to yourself. Unlocks are one of the key motivators in any game. It's the small reward that keeps you playing. A tremendous amount of time and research has been invested over the years to understand why people play games, and what they find fun. Do you really think that $2.50 horse armor is going to unravel the very fabric of gaming?

What exactly were you going to be "unlocking" in Oblivion?

We should be unlocking horse armor, or extra quests. The kinda things that they are now charging 2.50 for.

Thats my point exactly. Developers know gamers love unlocks. Now their trying to cash in.

No, of course not. I do think that it marks the beginning of something very annoying though. .

You can finish Final Fantasy without finding the ultimate weapons for your characters, but as in FFVII, you can't do the final limit break without them. Well, eventually, video game companies may not see charging for the final weapon or the final limit break as "charging for the cone," as you put it, because they want to make money and you CAN finish the game without it, but it's not as good. That's the problem I see coming. You guys may disagree, but this extra content idea could turn into bad news in the future.

Little side note and spoiler for all who hasn't played FF7. I got to sephiroth, the very last incarnation of him in human form without cloud's limit break, omnislash. Turns out, the game gives it to you if you didn't have it. That was just awesome seeing it used on the very last boss for the first time. Thanks, square for giving me cloud's omnislash, so I don't have to spend countless hours running around like a chicken with its head chopped off looking for omnislash. :D

Ah and there-in lies the problem. People like Steviep are acting like that is happening now with this Horse Armor. When it simply isn't. Now they could say that they are scared of the slippery slope this is taking us down, but they aren't. Instead they are flaming Bethesda saying their beloved Horse Armor should be given to them for free!! That is the viewpoint that we are objecting to, not the fact that this could be a slippery slope. In fact I alluded to that in my earlier post where I pointed out that big manuals used to be standard but now are relegated to paying extra for the collector's edition. A sad side effect of the skyrocketing costs of AAA game development.

I miss the good old days. I remember reading manuals to games and fully understand the games mechanics and backstory. Now, it's just a couple of pages of generic garbage that tells you absolutely nothing useful.

But that's the end of the game though, and you don't REALLY get to use it. :)

OT: Yeah, charging extra for little in-game extras is the suck.
