So i just got out of a x-399-e gamming with a threadripper 2990wx and into a dark hero with the 5950 ryan 9 and the new mm2 double speed hard drives,

HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow everything is like 3x as fast so happy right now wish i knew how to tweek this thing probably even faster !! jusst alone in ms flight sim just under 20 more fps with every setting maxed out..

Anyway quick question is the 5900 ryan 9 faster then the 5950 someone told me yes and i wanted to get it last night but was sold out so i got thr 5950 just curious????!1

It’s barely faster in games vs the 5950x but in the long term the 5950x will stay more relevant as more cores are utilized in games in the future.
 
The 5950x is generally faster than the 5900x, regardless of core load. The reason one would go for the 5900x over the 5950x is stock, price or little need for more than 12 cores and 24 threads. The 5900x is the sweetspot for price vs performance, but 5950x is the best of the 5000 series ryzen CPUs when you ignore price.

If you look at all the ryzen performance in gaming benchmarks the 5900x barely inches past the 5950x in performance which is what they were asking about. But as games become more thread happy the 5950x will stay relevant longer.

Ryzen performance depends on the cooling. A well cooled 5950x will trade blows with a 5900x for gaming, but if you have mediocre colling then the 5900x may be a tiny bit faster in some cases (insignificant amount IMO). The 5950x fully loads 8 threads on the main CCD first so it needs a bit more cooling to keep high clock speeds until the CPU starts loading the second CCD. PB depends a lot on the temp of the CPU. E.g. the difference between 55 and 65 degrees on all core loads on a 5900x is somewhere around 100-150 mhz in clockspeed.

I agree. The 5950x is really dense die. I had one and when I switched to the 5900x I got a better PBO and better FPS since I could keep it cooler.
