Twitch got leaked, and leaked hard: source code in its entirety -- not only Twitch's, but other Amazon/Twitch subsidiary projects like Amazon's Steam competitor, et al -- login/payment data (change your P's and 2(FA)'s), and the real juice: streamer payout data. It was no secret xQc was making bank, but not to this extent of a slamdunking (these are merely Twitch-earnings, too):

Wouldn't hurt if Twitch's infamously all-seeing eye of anti-adblock source happens to be a part of this.

lol

I tried to log in to change my password just in case and 2FA isn't working so I can't get in. Oh well, they can have it.

Hopefully these folks have careers to fall back on someday......what's Thresh up to these days......
They likely will. Remember, they're developing broadcasting, production and talent management skills — they'll probably be hosting shows or managing other streamers when their heyday is over.

I wonder about that too. If these kids making millions have a fallback plan. Garrett Mitchell (Cleetus) may be fine with the racetrack and all, but the others. After fifteen years of playing video games goes belly up, what experience can you carry over to another career? Farming Hell Baal for eight years straight doesn't really stick out that much.

If they are savvy, money makes money, no career needed.

Career to fall back on? If they invest properly they won’t have much to worry about. As long as living life as a average person doesn’t bother them.

If they are savvy, money makes money, no career needed.
Something tells me these folks aren't really capable of looking more than 15m into the future.

Didn't one of the female streamers say they spend $200k a year just on Starbucks...?

A bunch of them have nothing special going on except they were the first movers. Sometimes I still struggle to understand why so many people enjoy watching these people.
It is the lazy generation. They can't even be bothered to play the games themselves.

Article doesn't state that any passwords were breached.

Probably a good idea anyway. I don't re-use passwords, so it's just 1 to change.

I never understand this statement. Its the SAME exact thing of 50,000 people going into a stadium to see a ball toss, thrown, kicked around by a group of people....just a video game vs a ball. I do think the "tipping" such as bits is a little silly and potentially out of hand. I occasionally throw some twitch channel on in the background during my workday as background noise...pick up some tricks, etc.

if you weren't stupid with you're money, you wouldn't need to worry about it with what $5,000,000.00 but they're probably blowing it all.
For anyone who cares, it's a google search away.

I figured when he sold off the firing squad he was probably already set, but he also sold XFire to Viacom 15 years ago and got a portion of $102,000,000. He always seemed like a smart guy, so I'm guessing he probably managed to leverage being a decent quake player pretty well.

I mean i would rather have been dumb with my 5million than when i was young and dumb with my 4.15/hr at mcdonalds haha

Fair.

The problem with many who find celebrity and wealth young are they think it will never end. They don't make any other plans (education, training etc.) and blow their money on stupid things rather than saving it and when it is gone they spend the rest of their lives feeling sorry for themselves.

I'm less worried about these morons specifically, and more worried about society as a whole. You know there are kids in middle school all across the country looking at this list dreaming of buying a "Lambo" and using it as an excuse why they are doing poorly in school.

This list would be much better and more helpful if it showed all those who didn't make millions as well, and could be used as a teachable tool to illustrate just how lucky a few are on this top list to show it's really no more likely than winning the lottery.

The difference is that not everyone is capable of playing sports physically. Video games can be played by anyone. Although, with multiplayer games you would get slaughtered to frustrating levels if you aren't good at them. With single player games? Fuck no. Watching a Cyberpunk 2077 stream? Why? You can lower the difficulty and enjoy the game for yourself even if you are shit at games. Academically, I can understand watching multiplayer only games but I've never been able to enjoy it. I'd rather do almost anything else. Games just aren't entertaining to watch as far as I'm concerned. I realize I'm in the minority on that one.

And the ones that were caught cheating literally and fell from grace in an attempt to get there. The unmentioned epidemic is the rampant cheating in hopes to catch a spotlight. It's been ruining online games since streaming became a thing because all that streamers vie is attention for their "pog(s)".

From what I've seen most of the big ones are actually pretty responsible with their money, understand their fame isn't going to last forever, investing their money, and even hiring financial advisors. A lot more responsible with it than you see from most professional athletes and celebrities.

We don't always see eye to eye on things, but we are definitely on the same page here...

No , it's not. It's a game anyone can play at home on their ass.

This is more equivalent to a post-game Sports Commentator (there are thousands of those, spread out across all sports, and they are paid purely to look nice and waste people's time spurting the same old recaps / stale insights , in front of the cameras).

Most of these streamers are playing a game on camera that they have already pre-practiced and written commentary beforehand - not exactly a "new sporting event with real unexpected twists " like a football game.

If you think that ESPN Is a good value cable package , then you might be a Streamer Addict.

Tyler1 has like a 1200sqft house in the boonies of Missouri and an old Pontiac. I'm not sure he even spends any of his money.

Perhaps a person might not own Cyberpunk 2077 but is interested in seeing it's content? Seems pretty legit to me.

Why do we need live streaming for this, when we have had pre-recorded playthroughs on YouTube for over a decade?

Twitch has nevert mde sense for me, except for peoppe who truly have no life, and ut it on in the background constantly.

Twitch = Hallmark Channel reality tv.

The only reason I even know about the top streamers is b/c of the chess tournaments. If not for that, I'd just stick to D2 (MrLlama and 3Moth).

You don't have any idea what you are talking about do you?

I never attached any payment information to my account and my account was inherited from Justin TV, so not even attached to my Amazon account. I just wish I didn't have the immense self-respect I do so I could earn millions from acting like an idiot on the internet. I guess I have to live with having real purpose in my life...

Because streams are interactive allowing you to ask questions and/or be part of a gaming community?

I wasn't trying to imply that anyone needed streaming or videogames.
And watching someone play a game live often enables you to interact with the person streaming and ask them questions about the game you may have as you think of them.

Some of that is just a look. Many of them have managers and money management firms/pr firms that actually control a bit more than you’d think. They maintain an image tho, even as some of them have aged. I don’t mean the small streamers. I mean the ones you are seeing numbers for up there in the millions.
