New World Amazon Studios MMORPG

Mixed reviews on Steam but they are reviews before the game even went live. I'm going to see if I can find a key for a really cheap price. I suspect this game will be 5.99 before you know it.
actually when I checked last night around midnight ET, it was overwhelminly positive, there were like 800 reviews. people were reviewing based on experience they had with the beta, since the game wasn't released yet. today its mixed. looks like the negative reviews are due to long queue times

If you play pick a very low populated server or medium my only friend from work on Steam says he has a wait of 100 people in front of him.
He said in game chat is filled with mindless questions of gameplay and childish like Chat. ASAMAGOLD or whatever had a wait time of 10K people in front of him the last time he logged in a wait time of like 101 hours.

I'll pick it up seems I can't find a discounted key anywhere really below the retail price.

If the game passes up CSGO I'll pick it up

Not for nothing, but don't a lot of games do that at first release? I remember Valheim had a major flooding the first week or two.

I'm afraid as shit about this game going to Youtube some videos of cards being bricked in New World.

Eyestrain and Trama from the Bricking of his card older video. That guys eyes tell all lol =)

As long as you have the frame rate limiter enabled in NVCP it's a non-issue, and I believe the issue was fixed anyways.

Of course, it won't prevent your card from bricking anyways if it's always been faulty. The game is just demanding.

Nah this complain came from someone who just bought the game and their card bricked he said so much for the patch.

Characters are now showing up deleted for some people I suppose you could enhance those servers a bit.

I'm going to wait a few days so I don't get wrapped up in this MMO in development treadmill.

So the only med population server for us west has (ES/EN) at the end of the server name, what the hell does that mean?

I would not recommend doing that, after the intial exitement wears of there is a good chance you will end up on a dead server.

Swtor launched with way to much servers and it took them too long to alow people to move servers and it cost them a lot of players, better ride it out a bit at the start and end up on a decently populated server.

Infrastructure was a whole lot different back in the day. Amazon has AWS and can probably increase server count on demand rather easily and hopefully merge them almost as easily when the need for those machines dies off. Back in SWTOR's launch, virtualization had more significant limitations, bandwidth was more expensive, etc.

My friends and I rolled probably the most popular server right at launch which immediately had a 8000 queue, switched to another server that got in immediately. I made the mistake of going AFK because ya know, I have things like family time, and dinner. Now will be staring a queue screen for 1-2 hours to get back in. I'm sure a lot of people are using macros etc to keep themselves logged in, so the queue is pretty slow.

Games like this need to take notice on Elder Scrolls Online mega server infrastructure.

Yes, it CAN get a bit laggy at time, and I'd be more to blame the coding of the game than the actual server because of that.

But, having so many realms/servers to choose from is just so pedestrian these days.

An all in one mega server that ESO has (EU and NA of course) is just such a genius idea.
And of course it's not every player in front of you. From my understanding is it spits you into one of many clusters of servers sharing the same world, but in different instances. No need to log out to join a friend somewhere else, no need to worry if a server is full, etc...

I preloaded last night and played a little today on my lunch break. I joined a west coast sever and got right in. Now that I am done with work, I went to join that same server and got this:

Or you could go the guild wars 2 route and use overflow servers.

Consider me officially pissed. Sat in queue from 900 down to 500 or so for about 1.5 hours, only to get an error message that I didn't understand at all and get booted from the queue. Now back at 1500. Amazon sucks.

I'm amazed everyone here is surprised and pissed they can't play on day 1 of a big online game.. is this the first big game launch you've participated in since the early 2000s? This is just how it is.. companies suck. This is the norm. I don't bother playing a newly launched MP game for 2-4 weeks post launch, let alone bother day 1

I mean, for a company that runs half the web traffic on the planet I feel like they could probably have done a little better with this. Its not like its killing their budget to open up more/bigger servers at the start and then scale down afterwards if it is called for. The fact that this happens with every game and they didn't bother to flex how much technology they have behind them to have a good launch with no server issues is baffling to me.

There's no excuse for it to happen, for sure. But it does. With every single AAA game. No idea why they penny pinch this much just to piss off their biggest supporters and the folks most excited to play their games (those that buy their games day 1).. but it's just how it is

I think we know there are going to be problems, but also server architecture and the way these games are made have changed since 1999 when Everquest came out or when WoW came out. Amazon for some reason followed the same archaic server ideology instead of doing something like what another member said above like ESO with megaservers or GW2 with overflow servers etc., they fully anticipated the demand for this game I'm sure, the fact that it's such a mess is kind of sad. And all they are doing is opening more servers, when lots of people already got to level 20 or so today and got booted and then are told to go play on a new server or wait in a queue (some of which are currently estimated 28hr to get into) - I never see queues like that lol.

I used my free key to play. When I first went to login the lowest pop server was around 1500. After waiting half an hour they opened up a bunch of new servers. I was able to create a character and played for an hour and half or so (level 10ish) before I just didn't want to do it anymore as its just bunch of mindless busywork. I remember when Halo 1 came out and people complained about them reusing a level to run from the flood; in this you spend more time running back and forth in first few minutes just pressing E to harvest resources than you did redoing that entire level. Glad there's no monthly sub as it would be incredibly disappointing to pay money to play this. Yes, I really think that this game isn't worth playing even if it were free.

For those that are enjoying it it looks like Amazon enabled clusters so if a server gets to low pop they can merge all of the servers that are in the same cluster so at least that should be ok.

Maybe a Amazon Prime membership will boot you to front if th Que line. I might buy it right Meow and install it while at work.

Doubtful. At this time, several servers are definitely WAYYY overloaded hitting the thousands in queue. However, they've added a bunch of new servers along the day and you should be able to find a server in your region that has several to none in queue.
Mind you though, you cannot move the toon over to another server, unfortunately.

friend and I played for an hour today, picked a medium pop server and had a 30 second queue time. so far so good, I like the aiming. I hope the game gets harder as we progress, only lvl 6 now. I wonder if people will leave the high pop servers and start on the medium ones. tomorrow I'll have a 2 hour queue lol. I was going to wait a few days for things to settle but my friend started.

I picked a very low pop server for my second char, and after a few hours I logged out to go do something and when I came back the queue was at 1000+. Oh well, I'll play something else.

Because those supporters aren't going anywhere. Being hard to get in and play makes the fantasy lords want to play that much more. Exclusivity is powerful marketing.

whats with them only allowing two characters?

I guess because essentially you could play as any style or spec at anytime you want with one toon. Pending you have the experience and equipment for it of course.

interesting take on rpg with sort of classless characters.... pretty game too....

They need to unfuck these queues. 2000 slots per server is not going to cut it. How do you sell millions of copies of a game and only have space for a few hundred thousand players?

I was lucky and got in yesterday at 8:00 AM, but was kicked at 11:00. Only to find I was 608 in queue which took over 4 hours to get through.

This game will be dead in a week if they don't increase server capacity to at least 5000 slots per server.

Two decades + later and we still can't get MMO launches right.

Incredible.

What the fuck is the point of being an Amazon game studio if you can't just en-masse spin up some AWS to increase capacity? Literally the best thing they had going for them and they obviously didn't plan it out right.
