not sure on exact naming but this will be the final cpu before the ddr 5 launch i want to make sure the board is ready for the best cpu it can handle. anyone know if these will actually come to market before 2022?

I think it depends on how much benefit the V-Cache actually creates. If its a large enough benefit I wouldn't be surprised if they name it the 6xxx series.

However there's no actual information at the moment other than speculation so until something is actually revealed or announced there's nothing that we can really tell. I'm also curious because I'm planning on getting a 5950X or whatever the fastest processor possible into this system to tide off the first few teething years of DDR5.

etc.

Rumors are swirling that the new CPU will offer a lot more than just v-cache. No specifics yet.

my 5950x didnt make it to 4 months and died  thankfully i bought the $80 warrenty as i knew these were being pushed out too fast and didnt trust QC on it. hopefully by next week itll be back and i can rest this 5900x in a system for client. all iv seen this will be a ongoing tech they will continue to apply to next gen chips. iv got name in 3 diff plces if they get updated skus of these ill get a call to buy one hopefully.

wow. CPUs rarely die without external forces causing the failure. I'm curious, what happened?

This has been my plan as well. The 5900 and 5950 are pretty readily available right now but I'm waiting to see if the "XT" series gets released as I just want to drop the 'endgame' AM4 CPU in to my mobo and hold on to it for a few years.

At the very least, prices have already fallen some on these chips, and I'd expect another drop after Intel 12 series release. So even if the XT never comes, you will likely get a discount further later this year. Although in the grand scheme of things, as long as i expect these chips to be relevant, the price over the years of use will not matter much.

im hopinh it was just sht luck but i wasnt even pushing like 5ghz 200 flck i just used the feature of the dynamic boost and pbo on the asus Dark Hero i push 4.65ghz for ccx 1 and 4.6ghz ccx 2 as followed by Der8aurers video didnt have a dinky stock cooler either it has a Alphacool 420 aio with 6 140 ml fans and 8 Gentle typhoons pulling air in front of my case so it has plenty of fresh air.

temps were never crazy either highest i saw during any rendering or gaming was 65c even hot spot was only 70c idle was about 32 light gaming 40c max. so im preying i just got a bad chip and its not the boards feature set otherwise ill have to switch out to a diff board that doesnt use a bios setting that kills cpus.

Do you know what your power and voltage setting were for various things like vcore, SOC, PBO limits, etc? If auto, its possible the board could have caused damage. I'm pushing my 5950x pretty hard, but I have set everything manually, custom PBO and all voltage and power settings are within known safe limits. I tried PBO and everything on auto when I first built my setup, and damn settings were way to high. I get better performance and clocks now after doing everything manually and tweaking the curve, limits and all voltages the board gives me access to.

i noticed with core temp when monitoring a few apps voltage would spike to 1.5v on random cores. but everyone id talked with said this is normal and safe as it was only for a split second.

1.5v? That's it? I routinely see more than that :D
