Good evening folks. Hope y'all are having a good weekend. I have decided that I want to get a living room PC going in our game room. It's been a long time since I've had controllers for the computer, but are Xbox 360 controllers still the way to go? I used to have a usb wireless receiver which supported four controllers. Like a fool I sold it years ago. Anyways - before I go hunting one down and some Xbox 360 controllers, I was wondering if there were better options these days? Thanks!

pick up a xb1 controller with wireless dongle kit. can do 8 controllers or 4 with headsets, iirc. i got my controller cheap by going to EB and grabbing a discontinued "special edition".
Second the Xbox one controller with usb dongle.

Bluetooth is picky anyway. If you have a newer PC with it built-in (or an Intel PCI card), it works great. If you're relying on a USB dongle, they tend to drop inputs. It isn't always noticeable, but you'll definitely see it in games that require a boatload of quick inputs. It gets worse if you have multiple devices connected. Even Bluetooth 5.
Both of the Xbox wireless dongles work wonderfully without any such issues.

Walmart has a shit load of the new X-box controllers in stock I bought a Black One last year but they have Blue Red and Neon Green ones now which look good. The thing is they still have the controllers in stock but they haven't had consoles in since Christmas I ask the truck unloaders like once a month and they haven't seen anything yet. Once a system comes off the truck it will be like the Holy Grail.

Are they standard price ($49-59) or are they discounted at all?

They are cheaper than Amazon is all I know the colored ones are like a few dollars more but not much.
They have PS5 controller up the Kazoo as well but I won't go that route unless I buy a system.
PS5 Controllers are like 69.00 X-box is like 49.00 or cheaper.

If they're cheaper than Amazon I'll have to stop in and snag one. My current X1X pad has developed a little bit of a drift after a year of pretty heavy use. I don't really care about colors (black is usually what I want), but I'll go for one of those if they're more than $5 cheaper.

I'll add that bluetooth (and other wireless) devices have varying strengths and can be susceptible to interference and blockage so where possible I run a usb extension as far as I can, (stealthed/hidden as much as possible), so that the device is as close as it can be to the transmitter/receiver.

I use that same xbox one controller with it's own dongle when playing in my main gaming pc chair - or I plug it in at my pc at times since I have it wired conveniently between my split keyboard sections at my main rig's island desk.

In my living room I rane some wires and wire managed their ends and a Bluetooth tranmitter/receiver to be under my couch either hidden along the walls or running down through my basement ceiling and back up to the rear living room wall.

At my lunch counter I've had a monitor and a heavy ceramic coffee mug between the pc and my peripherals block bluetooth before, so I ended up running a usb extension to beneath the screen. Before I did this, if I put the coffee mug or anything else substantion in between the peripherals and the pc my mouse or keyboard would get laggy or not respond at all. A long lunch counter with Cube PC ---- 32" screen ---- pc periperals and wireless tablet peripherals on the far end, at least for now.

I have a ps4 so I can't comment on the new playstation 5 controllers on pc but they look pretty cool if expensive.

Probably a little late (since it appears OP set his mind on a Xbox One controller) but I've really been enjoying my 8bito Pro controller. That controller feels great for 2D platformers.

It's great for games relying on the D-pad, but I prefer the asymmetrical joystick layout on the Xbox controller for everything else.

Yes I have already made up my mind but additional input (hur hur - see what I did there? :D) is still welcome. Thank you!
