Pixel 6 / Pixel 6 Pro / Pixel 6a

I'm going to see how I do with the 6 Pro's curved screen. If I don't like it, I'll go with the standard 6. Of course, if these are as pricey as some of you suggest, I just might try to squeeze another year out of my 3XL.

I like the size and layout of the normal 6. I really only want/need one camera lens anyway, too. I want something I can point/shoot quickly and get great photos...like my Pixel 2 could.
I just hope they don't gimp the battery or any features. Can't say I'm very eager to drop a small fortune on one, either. Paying a premium price for simplicity shouldn't be a thing, but thanks to companies like Samsung here we are.

Pixel 4 XL was beautiful, minimalist design, just get rid of the forehead.
I too admire the design of the Pixel 4 XL. As for the forehead, honestly I don't notice it at all. I just consider it a top bezel, with the benefit of the phone having no notch and no punch holes at all. And a flat screen!

The Verge had hands on with it and wrote: "That screen is very slightly curved at the edges".

I am still holding out hope that it may be a 2.5D screen.
I have had one, or maybe two phones with a 2.5D screen and there was no glare or reflection on the edges, nor did it have any distortion or color aberrations on the edge of the screen.

Take a look again at what a 2.5D contoured screen is and how it appears. (y)

The more I read about this phone and it’s Tensor SoC, the more I realized “machine learning (ML)” is just that Google has further optimized how Android will spy on you. Even the UI will flow smoother because ML will know what you going to do before you do them…

Chris Matyszczyk wrote about the Pixel 6 today on ZDNet's Technically Incorrect newsletter. Technically Incorrect is described as offering "a slightly twisted take on the tech that's taken over our work and our lives."

Here is a sample of what he wrote.
Here's a phone seemingly targeted toward those who have made too much money lately. And toward those who think nothing of taking out a loan and spending four figures on a phone. And toward those who are fascinated by words like Tensor.

If you want to read more of his humorous wit on the forthcoming Pixel 6, here is the full article. Google's Pixel 6 video is included. :)

This is Google's new Pixel 6 in action and I have a problem: It looks like an interesting phone from the pictures. But what's it like when you use it? Here's a first little look.

Am no longer holding out any hope for the Pixel 6 Pro to have an acceptable 2.5D screen.
In the above video (2:00) MKBHD said, "The 6 Pro has a little bit of the waterfall display going on over the edges"

Pixel 6 would be pretty nice. Unfortunately it's a bit too large and obviously not going to be officially sold here in Finland (thus VoLTE, VoWiFi and so on support would be unlikely). I'm almost certainly going to buy Galaxy S22 early next year. It should be pretty much perfect in terms of size. I just hope that they bring back SD card slot.

If the smaller Pixel 6 is going to cost a grand, I'll just get a Pixel 5 (or 5a) and call it done.

EDIT: Looks like the normal Pixel 5 is still going for $699. Hopefully the 5a launch brings that down a little. I had hoped it would be discounted by now.

I just bought a used one off Swappa for my wife. Saved about $100 and came with the box, charger, etc.

It sounds like the 5a is going to be just a rehashed 4a 5G with a slightly larger battery and larger size. I will probably still buy it because I am not going to pay $1,000 for a phone. I'll wait for a second gen after they work the bugs out.

Whoa that's ugly;

Agreed, it is ugly. DNS India claimed that it is a real hands on-picture: Recently, foreign media TechDroider exposed the real phone hands-on picture of the google pixel 6, which is basically the same as the appearance of the rendered picture.

Yet, none of the six Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro colors shown in the Google Store look like that one. You have to click on each phone's three circles to see all the colors. Who are we to believe? (n)

I’m a diehard Nexus / Pixel fan, but my God google get your act together already and design a beautiful phone with good specs and just do it why are they all over the board every year on each release?

The only great Pixel phones in my mind are the Pixel 2 XL and the 4 XL, And for the price and minimalist clean design I will say the Pixel 5 is good too, it’s just too small for my tastes and the earpiece speaker sucked, but the concept of the Pixel 5 was really good.

All we want are good spec's, in a clean minimal simple design. I would say a mix of designs of the Pixel 4 + Pixel 5 would be great. The Pixel 4 with the clean smooth rear of the phone in white or the salmon color, with the slight rounded black curved edge, mix it with the all screen almost no bezel Pixel 5 and punch whole notch, and we're good.

Pixel 6 I'd want;

- SD888+
- 8GB RAM
- 5,000mAh battery
- 6.5" Display ( FLAT ) like the iPhone 12 line
- 120hz refresh rate
- Wireless charging
- IP68 rating
- Design it like a larger Pixel 5 keeping the minimal clean style, but with the build quality and materials of the Pixel 4
- Sell it for $899

"The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro's Tensor SoC is a Samsung Exynos 9855 - NotebookCheck.net News"

https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-G...or-SoC-is-a-Samsung-Exynos-9855.553822.0.html

So much for a specially design product. It will be slightly less powerful and slightly more power-hungry than the Qualcomm chips.
Of course its a variant of the Exynos series. But that really doesn't say anything about the custom changes that Google has made to it. I'm sure the PS5 and Xbox series X are also named something like Ryzen 3520-5GX or whatever.

I'm still not gonna really bother with any of these leaks with reveals so close. I'm also not as worried about the potential for a curved display as most of you are. Likewise, I'm not gonna be picking one up for at least a year because I haven't even had this Pixel 4a for a month and its considerably better than I thought it would be.

That's the point. I don't know that they really made any serious custom changes. It's probably just more software optimizations.

Key quote in that article.
A new report alleges
Source leads to a Dutch site that should receive a Pulitzer for excellence in journalism.

Judging by the numbering, the Tensor soc is technically closer to the Exynos 2100 than to the Exynos 2200
Yep, judging by the code number Samsung gave the chip we got this all figured out.
This whole flurry of articles is based completely on the fact that the number 9855 is closer to the number 9840 than 9925.
I guess by this logic the Exynos 2200 is 70 number units more powerful than last year's 2100. /rolleyes

5a 5g is the better value anyways vs the 4a 5g and 5. I do like the 4a(non 5g) for the size. Perfect phone for people who just need a phone that can do photography well and a consistent experience. I hope it sticks around for a bit longer and maybe google will lower its price a bit.

I'm interested in the 5, but at this stage I'm probably just going to wait on the 6 and hope the smaller version isn't a grand. The 5a is fine, but there are a few things that are deal breakers for me.

The above site compares the size of the new Pixel 6 ( non Pro ) to the Pixel 5a. Both phones have a very similar screen size; 6.4" vs. 6.34", but why is the overall size of the phone itself a good amount smaller on the 5a than the 6? One thing I really like about my Pixel 5a is the compact size and it's all screen with very little bezel, so why is the Pixel 6 with almost the same size screen, but the phone itself is a good bit larger?

Pixel 6 = 160.4 x 75.1 x 8.2 mm
Pixel 5a = 154.9 x 73.7 x 7.6 mm

Mostly the width and height being a fair amount larger on the P6.

Height of the phone being significantly greater in difference than the screen size difference = larger bezels.

I picked up a $6 case. I don't think the bump is that bad. For me, it's all about the screen. If it's too curved, it goes back to Google.
Nice screenshot and that is a beautiful case, the simulated carbon fiber trim along the top and bottom adds style.

I'm really liking what the normal 6 is shaping up to be. I hate that camera ridge on the back, but I figure mine will be in a case 99.9% of the time anyway. I was a bit afraid of the early predictions of a $900 msrp, but $700 is okay with me. I think my plan will probably be to F5 like mad on the Google store while their announcement is going on.
