Windows 11 reveal coming June 24th

Did Control Panel still survive?

Hmmm. Getting a Windows Elementary OS vibe. Can't say I'm a fan of what I'm seeing. Still wondering if this version will require a subscription.

Microsoft: Seeking problems to solutions.

I think the UI is okay, the rounded corners look fresh after living with flat squares for so many years.

But really, I hope they have more than that. Looks like a cheap reskin. I mean, there is so much they could fix (disjoint control panels, search in file explorer never works, NTFS, the horrible update system, etc.).

Maybe the leak version is not everything. I don't know. It just doesn't seem worthy of a new number if that's all they got.

windows 11 does "feel" snappier then 10 .. Hunt:Showdown seems to play the same. I did an upgrade instead of fresh install though

What about those claims that windows 10 is the last one? How much will we have to pay for this? Will we be able to upgrade for free from Windows 10? It would be fair that we can upgrade for free, especially for us private users who use only the basics and for games.
That windows and microsoft are constantly making some upgrades and in the end absolutely nothing new, just like the dx 12 with which they promised that the games would work great and in the end nothing.
Only false promises and more unnecessary garbage in the system itself, very bad behavior...

Of course, we really don't know for sure IF there is going to be a Windows 11. Not until June 24th.

would be classic Microsoft if they started charging again for Windows 11 :)

With the leaked ISO, you can do a free upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10. The free upgrade even works if the OS you are upgrading from was activated via illegitimate means. Microsoft really doesn't care at this point. They want everyone to be using the latest version of their OS so they can push more people into their cloud services. They know that no one is going to pay to upgrade windows on their 10 year old dell.

Honestly, I don't think MS really cares or makes that much money off of enthusiasts. Most of the money is probably coming from large system builders like Dell, HP, etc. or businesses with hundreds or thousands of computers.

Which is why they gave Win 10 away basically for free, they don't seem to be hunting down key resellers, and you can even install Windows without a license and use it for free (with some limitations).

They really don't care about some gamers that build a new machine every couple years, probably pocket change for them.

I agree.

Will win 11 come (be offered) through windows update or do we have to download it from the microsoft site(usb iso)?

If Microsoft was considering switching to a GNU/Linux based desktop, they'd be better off virtualizing a backwards compatible desktop with video driver pass through for gaming and business use.

Honestly, WINE is such a pain in the butt to get working right half the time for games and windows apps. A temporary, virtualized desktop to help with transition to a native Linux kernel would seem like a better solution.

But let's be honest, they'll never give up on their kernel. They make too much money off of it.

I think win 11 is a real think otherwise I doubt microsoft would be activating these win 11 leaked iso's (win 7+ keys seem to work..as previously reported).. There are a couple things I really like (multiple desktop option, indicators of open apps / active app in taskbar... change one option in task bar settings and the taskbar items are back on the left (where they belong).. some stuff is dumb.. the rounded edges show up in alt-tab.. but not on the actual applications (thankfully) and other than the start menu I'm not entirely sure where else... I'd turn these rounded corners off if I am able (haven't looked yet.)

I reaaally wish they would sort out the contrasting visual styles / redundancies / omissions depending on where you look on the control panel stuff...

It could be a moderately nicer win 10 as long as they don't go all windows 365 on it... or boost the telemetry to the stratosphere. unless m$ screws it up with some weird driver stuff / subscription move / telemetry...etc ..it is "fine" not so much better than win 10 but not a Vista catastrophe either ..based on limited time on a Hyper-V VM ...

ok I really don't like the rounded corners however....

10 already has those.
yeah, i really hope you can turn that crap off.
I forgot win 10 has the the new desktop option... I like the active window notification better on win 11 I guess stated more accurately... also I am dumb and didn't really realize it was indicating it on windows 10... ha

why though? and "im expecting" is a good way to get disappointed (talking to the article)

by creating a new version of Windows when they previously stated that Windows 10 would be the final one creates expectations that this will be something big...otherwise why not just make this a feature update to Windows 10 (wasn't that the original plan with Sun Valley?)

the guy leading the official reveal presentation is way too emotional...talking about the history of Windows seems like he's going to cry any minute...

Microsoft announces Windows 11 release date for the holidays,...beta builds releasing next week...

I'm curious to see how the direct storage will work. Is this giving apps direct VRAM access that was on the XBox?

how is the Windows 11 hardware scheduler going to work with AMD CPU's?...it's rumored to have been tuned for Intel's new Alder Lake range of processors

AMD or Intel specific versions? At least until AMD also moves to the big and small cores format. <- I assume that's what you're talking about.

what ive always understood, its that the core of w10 is the last, they didnt say anything about new naming. it is still 10 under the hood.
