Anyone else love their old case?

I don't really understand modern case design where there are no drive bays. For the last few years, i have used hdd drive docks for easy hot-swapping of storage. I own two of these hot-swap docks, one for SATA 3.5" spinners (which I have my only mechanical drive in that's physically inside my case - a 14TB 7200 RPM Seagate - and one that i bought a few months ago that can be used with any size HDD or SSD providing it's been removed from any ext enclosure and the SATA connector is accessible. I also have a blu-ray optical drive/burner in one of my 5.25" bays, though I very very rarely use it but I want it in case it's needed. Can't imagine living without these devices and it's actually disturbing for me to look at any ATX tower case with no drive bays lol

I have the case from my first build, a Lian-Li PC-60. I probably won't throw that one away. Just about everything else is expendable.

I'm still have my 800D floating around. Wish I could get a 1000D for a dual build.

I had two Lian Li V600 mid towers back in the day - one was a silver performance system with Koolance water cooling, the other was black V600 that was a midrange family PC.

Still have my lian li pc-65 silver aluminum case with my retro rig in it. Ill never get rid of it. Also have my coolermaster haf-x stored away waiting for the right time to bring it back to life. Again ill never get rid of of it. It would be a perfect air cooled case for a 5900/3080 build but the wait continues.

I am weird with cases. I swap them out every time once meets my fancy. I really do like my 011 XL atm and might hang onto one for awhile. I end up building people computer in my old cases.

Weak sauce! (Or whatever the kids say these days).

I have two SuperMicro SC760 tower cases in service. I had a side business and built some PCs in them for a couple of friends back in 1999 if I recall. They got recycled back to me in the early 2000s. I have run half a dozen systems through each one. There is nothing I couldn't put into these things. Interesting configuration with a ton of room (not very deep and super tall). I have kicked around the idea of really modding one to do some water cooling but I always shy away from the effort.

Since they can be disassembled easily, I had one painted by a bodybshop with some spare paint. It matches the owner's Chevelle (the paint, not the assorted nerd parts)

13 Years with my Silverstone TJ09, i finally retired her for a new case that allows for real wire management.

The simple answer? You're in a very small minority.
Most computers don't even have / need an optical drive, let alone space to use 3-6 of them.

Manufacturers build to the majority. That's about the long and short of it. I have a USB optical drive sitting in a box in my den. I haven't pulled it out since the pandemic started. Don't need it.

I agree - I used to have two home computers, both in Fractal Define Mini cases, one case did not have drive bays and the other was an earlier model that did have two 5.25 external bays in front. The primary PC was the one w/o the bays and was considerably smaller and a cleaner build. These days my Cerberus uATX build still has no bays. I'll plug in my external DVD drive in the rare situations when I really need one.

And to think my early builds had 3.5" floppy drives and quite a few 5.25" bay devices. Actually do not miss them at all.

I still have my old Antec P180 in my closet. I think I built 4 back-up rigs in it. I'm going to build a 5th since no one seems to be interested in buying the Z270/7700K combo I have. Not even my son wants it.

I had one of those! Well at least it looked exactly the same minus maybe the vent holes on the front. Amazing tank of a case. I would probably still use it too if SSDs had been a thing when it was designed.

My main server sits in a Corsair 900D and the fileserver in a 25 year old generic case I bought in Korea, IIRC. But I'll never give that generic case up. First case I watercooled in, 6 5.25" slots (that now hold 8 3.5" drives), able to handle EATX motherboards, and built like a tank.
