Just saw some numbers posted on a few sites and they are reporting roughly 25% more FPS for a 3060ti than a 2070.

I have a 2070 and man I am glad I am not buying a 3060ti. 25% to me is totally not worth upgrading for. I think 3080 or bust. I am in the step up queue from 9/21 for a 3080 FTW. Hoping it gets to me in July or August.

I am really happy with my 2070 now.

TPU has the RTX 3060Ti coming 26% ahead in 1080p but 33% ahead in 1440p.

For those of us with 4Kp120 TV's (e.g. LG C9/CX series), the only way to drive 4Kp120 is with the RTX 30xx cards (or Radeon RX 6xxx) with native HDMI 2.1. You could buy some $30 HDMI/DP dongle, but there have been a bunch of issues with those. Otherwise RTX 20xx you're stuck with 4Kp60 or 4Kp120 with some bad ycbcr.

When has "one generation forward, and one tier back" ever been a winning proposition? Heck; there have been generations where same-tier was barely more than a sidegrade.
GTX 1070 > GTX 980 (more like 980 ti)
GTX 970 > GTX 780 (more like 780 ti)

As a RX480 owner...sounds golden. Once cards are available, I'm a pig in sh*t!

33% and thats a best case scenario, meh. I am not going to shell out 600+ for that amount of an increase. It's not worth it to me to upgrade to anything but a 3080. My 2070 holds it own at 1440p now. Plus the fact I would have to perform a miracle to even get one in a cart somewhere. Absolutely not worth it.

I'll just wait for my evga step up to come through. 3060 ain't cuttin it. Who am I kidding? You guys think you have a chance? I only get on my pc between 7 and 11pm. No way in hell I am going to get one. 3080 or bust.

That should've been obvious from the get go... Your only logical upgrade path is a 3070 or a 3080.
I guess I am trying to speak to a broader audience saying just wait it out and get what you want. Don't settle. But really. I really think the shortage won't abate until 2022. We'll see.

generally speaking I think it's always been best to skip a generation or two of GPUs to get an upgrade that's actually a significant upgrade. Obviously if one must have the latest n greatest that's their money to spend but to get the ~100% performance boost that will allow for a major change in framerate/resolution/IQ at the same tier means buying every other or even every third generation. Upgrading every gen for the usual 10-30% performance increase doesn't make much sense especially now with GPU prices thru the roof.

Eh, I had an RX 5700, sold it for around 300 and bought a RTX 3060 ti, couldn't be happier. Probably not a great upgrade for 2070 owners, but the added performance for me has been great. Especially at 1440p, thing has to be 40 % faster on average. Plus I finally played Control with DLSS and Raytracing on over 60 FPS the whole time, was a delight. I think it's more like 30+ percent faster than a 2070 @ 1440, so if you made my card that much slower I don't think my experience playing games like Control would be as good. But if I were to move to a 3080, I don't think it would be that much better (it's already smooth it would just be smoother or i'd shut off dlss). Could be wrong though, a 3080 would be dope. I still might get a 3080 ti if it launches some day.

Should be looking at the RTX 3070 which smokes the 2070.
I am in the 3080 queue from 9/21...hopefully before 2022 gets here I can snag the 3080 FTW. I have to pay evga 315$ and that is overnight am priority shipping. But that step up queue is moving....sllllooooooooooowwwww.

I have a 2070 and I doubt I'll be upgrading any time soon. The 2070 better hold out because I'm not spending $1500-2000 on a fucking video card.

I doubt you will upgrade soon also since you can't buy shit right now lol. I've already written off being able to upgrade my 1080Ti in 2021 which means I've also written off this generation of GPU's. Now I just need to decide if I want to save my money or buy more desert toys.

+33% is the average at 1440p from TPU.

Techspot 18 game average has the 3060Ti at +44% for 1440p/High over the 2070:

Stop trying to make it seem like a 3060Ti isn't a big upgrade from a 2070 at 1440p, because it actually is a large upgrade. Whether or not you want to shell out the money for it is another matter.

Issue isn't the card itself but that the current GPU prices are way off of MSRP. I bought my 3080 at launch and it currently costs 30% more now, for the exact same model, than I payed at launch. I payed a premium at the time for a very good and quiet cooler along with a small factory OC so there were significantly cheaper cards available at the time.

The 60 series usually is about equal to previous gen 70 series so you would normally have to skip a generation if going from 70->60 to get a decent performance increase or 70->70/80 when only jumping one generation. The 3060ti is overperforming for it's model number and at MSRP it would be have been fairly good value.

Just skip a generation. I gladly skipped the 2000 series as only the 2080ti was tempting performance wise and halo cards do not have the price to performance ratio I want.
