Hi

I'm having a problem solving this mouse stutter that keeps coming after sleep/hibernate. The system works great and as intended after a power cycle but as i mentioned after the first sleep cycle it all starts. . . .

After a sleep cycle the mouse start stuttering and it stutters somewhat more after more continuations sleep cycles.

I've managed to see exactly why the mouse is stuttering but not what is causing it.

The mouse stutter every time the cursor changes to a different type of cursor. I.e. moving the mouse above text, above links and in the corners of the windows for the resize cursor. I also use a custom animated cursor that has 9 frames that loops. For every frame that changes will make it hitch/stutter. For some reason i can't force it to happen by putting it to sleep 3 times in row which is weird. Its like something is slowly corrupting the windows session. . .

It does not stutter when you are playing games i.e moving the camera of the character and so on.

also it is not stuttering when you are moving windows around on the desktop

I dont think i have anything out of the ordinary running:

I've tried to:

  • Disable Fast boot in windows and bios.
  • Disabled G-sync
  • No VLC processes active when put to sleep
  • Tried to close all programs and processes when it started stuttering = no difference
  • DDU

What i like to note is i tried this setup on my intel system before i swapped the cpu and motherboard and i did not have this issue. I'm also on all the latest drivers for BIOS, chipset, windows, nvidia, SSD/NVMe/keyboard firmware.

What changed from working Intel system:

  • Intel -> AMD cpu
  • Intel board Z170-> AMD x570 board
PCIE 3.0 -> PCIE 4.0 (for both graphics & nvme (pcie 4.0 drive) boot drive)
  • New Re-installed windows
  • GPU is in the second x16 slot since i have Asus HYPER M.2 X16 Gen 4 Card in the first slot so it doesn't block airflow for the GPU since its almost as big as it.
  • (Update) Gpu is in 1st x16 slot with a 10g card and a qnap qm2-4p-384 nvme card.

this issue is so irritating that i might switch back to intel when the new cpu come out...

update the mobo bios, update the chipset drivers and possible bump your ram to 1.4v. every set of corsair ram i have every used needed extra voltage to be 100% stable.
edit: also, turn off you animated cursor, see if it still does it. and i see you said you have updated drivers, there were new ones release at the beginning of the month.

Yes i've been like a hawk on drivers so im already on all the latest.
Ye if u change it to the static cursor it works as long as it doesnt change cursor like when it changes from resize, link selection and text selection cursor. everytime it changes it stutters like my animated cursor does. It's the transition to another cursor/ or in the animated case its for everytime it changes frame and it has 9 frames in the animation.

This is the common USB problem. Usually caused by a bad PCI-e 4.0 riser cable. Try running your GPU in PCI-e 3.0.
ye im not running any risers =/ and the only thing that isnt pcie4 compatible is the sound card thats in the x1 slot

So you tried turning off PCIe 4.0 on all your slots and that didn't fix it?

so sounds like your animated cursor thing isnt working correctly. only thing i can suggest is to not use it then.
ps: you dont need all those launchers running in the background...

I dont think i have anything out of the ordinary running:
While I don't recognize every single icon on that tray, Rainmeter seems like a likely culprit if you have an animation happening (music visualiser or similar).

I'd turn off 90% of those if it were me, btw.

Sure i mean if i use a static cursor it solves the stuttering of the mouse when it isnt changing.
But when you move it across areas where it changes it makes a hitch for the transition from the normal cursor to the appropriate one for the current selection (like hoover over links or text where the cursor changes)

Sure if it helps but it doesn't, tried running the pc with no startup apps and got the same problem.

Ye, tried setting all slots to pcie 3.0 (not the nvme slots tho)

i even remove the nvme expansion card and move the GPU to the 1st slot
Only thing i have installed now is the GPU and my sound blaster z card.

NVMe slots on the motherboard aren't associated with this problem, only the actual PCIe slots. If that didn't fix it I'm out of ideas, sorry.

I had similar issues on my Dark Hero but the latest bios fixed it all for me. Are you also using the latest chipset drivers from AMD directly?

My system is quite similar to yours other than I run my GPU in the first x16 slot.

Ye everything latest directly from manufacturer site.

Now i switched it up to fit my 10g net card. I removed the soundcard, placed the gpu in slot 1 x16 and i replaced my expansion card that can do 4 nvme disks but its smaller this time so i have it in the last full size pcie slot.

I might try the dark hero board to see if its the board cant think that it is the cpu. . .
I haven't seen any post's with this type of issue for the 5k amd series, must only be on some selected asus motherboards..

There's a section in this latest Gamer's nexus vid about the 5000 series USB issue
