The Reverb G2 sure was amazing ... for 5 days. Unfortunately mine is now dead.

I contacted HP and spoke with a tech guy, who told me that the breakout / box cord is failing for a lot of people and because it (the cord) is so far backordered he suggested I just return my G2 as it would probably be quicker. After mine failed I naturally tried to find a way to fix it and only then did I come across a number of people who have had this exact same issue. Note this is not the issue that can be fixed with a pci-e usb card ... this is a failed cord.

What a huge disappointment.

Damn that sucks. Are you going to try to get another one or try something else?

I had been anxiously awaiting higher resolution VR and had my eyes on the G2. But the reviews I saw weren't too favorable for the G2 so I ended up getting a Quest 2 and have been loving it.

I bought a $70 wifi 6 router and use that only with my Quest 2 and PC for fully wireless PC VR and it's amazing. I have a 16x25' room I use and it's really awesome having the huge freedom of movement with no wires or anything.

The standalone Q2 games are pretty good too. The graphics are much better than I expected and it's pretty cool being able to take it anywhere and be able to play.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. Hope you can get a replacement ASAP. I wonder if you return it, is there a strong possibility that your new one will have the same problem?

The person I spoke to about the return said it would take 4-6 weeks for a replacement vs the 10 or so days to get a full refund so I opted for that.

I do find the timeline she quoted as curious ... I puchased the headset direct from HP Canada on the 14th and it arrived on the 18th ... but a replacement is going to take 4 weeks to get?

I just wanted to add a further warning, as my experience with HP support has been absolutely terrible.

My first phone call and request to return the product happened on Jan 21st. Since then I have made 9 calls, spanning a call time of 2 hours and 37 minutes, and have made 4 separate requests for a return shipping label and HP has yet to follow through with this.

Is it a hardwired cable?

sounds like the same issue I had with my v1 Rift. Ended up not being the cable but the weak connector on the headset. Im not much for raging, but man smashing that headset into a million little bits after it crashed in a race for the 15th time felt really satisfying

So I just received a second Reverb G2 .... and its not working properly either. One eye cuts out at times, both go black, HL Alyx crashes as soon as I get in. Just incredibly disappointed

Such a piece of shit

Is that due to the headset though? Do you have problems in all games?

I did have one eye cutting out or both on one game when causing explosions in game. I've had a lot of crashes, Steam VR completely stop working until I reinstalled it, and had to figure out many different things to get apps to play nice with each other since you have to run like 5 apps to run half the games. Would consider all those software/driver or video card probs before I'd blame the headset.

Are these problems fairly common with this headset? I'm in the market to buy my first vr headset and have it narrowed down to he reverb g2. I'm curious if this issue has been solved or should I look at a different headset all together?

I had mine cutting out one eye and then both. Replugged the power cord into the break out box and everything was fine again. No troubles since then. Keeping an eye out for it though. If it reoccurs I may have to return it before the warranty runs out.

Well it looks like the third times the charm ... /crosses fingers. The third headset arrived late yesterday and it has had zero problems so far. No going black, no one eye cutting out, no 4-1 or 7-14 errors.
I was able to complete Alyx and move on to Medal of Honour without any crashes what so ever.

Remember, it took a couple of days before your first one started having hiccups. Mine was fine for about 4 days before I started having the same issues you had. Messing with the connector fixed it so keeping my fingers crossed. I wish they had a shorter cable available. I think the weight of the cable is part of the problem. It pulls the connector out. I’m only doing sit down games so a 6 foot cable would be long enough.

Nice Q2 review. Wrong forum.

I had the typical USB problems on my X570/3700X combo but I had a PCIE USB3 card that solved it. Has been solid for the 4 weeks I've had it.

I did take advantage of the reviews complaining about the HMD cable and I used Velcro cable wrap to affix the cable to the headstrap immediately before and after the little plastic clip - careful to leave slack which actually seems to keep a little parallel pressure on the connector so it won't unplug itself. I hope some enterprising inventor creates a universal wireless kit with adapters for the various HMDs one day.

Knock on wood, I ended up buying a G2 and have used it pretty much every day for the past two weeks and no issue at all. Im on a amd 5900x, x570 asus dark hero board.
