Radeon 6000 series speculation

Here (Canada) the 6800 is less than $100 cheaper than a 6800 XT....but the 3070 is almost $200 cheaper....

Aren't we expecting all initial cards regardless of partner, to be identical reference editions with custom to arrive after?
I am under the understanding that it shouldn't matter your prefered brand except RMA/warranty etc...

I just saw this on Twitter:

Related, I hope the 6800 XT reference cooler destroys the 3080 FE so we can laugh at Nvidia's stupid ass design.

I think that design was an effort to tackle what is a needed cooling solution for an arch that is being pushed too far, hence the new founders.
Add-Ins aren't going this way. Why?

I know the cards are going to sell just fine, but I couldn't help posting to AMD's "Hangar 21" trailer on Youtube about how bad their tech trailer looks. What the hell are they thinking? I KNOW the card and hardware can turn out some great visuals but that art and lighting is hot garbage. They should have stuck with scenes from existing RT games rather than making something themselves. And if that's some new game coming out then I'm sorry for killing the souls of their art and lighting department.

Watch for yourself. I'm playing games right now that look better than this "showcase."

Anyway, as for speculation, I am expecting the AMD cards to trounce the Nvidia offerings on power consumption which might be a great thing. Getting my 3080 tuned for power efficiency AND speed has been an adventure. If AMD can make that more plug and play it'll make for a more compelling card for the general population.

Went to two stores for 6800XT 3 hrs before each one opened,I left as the lines were too long.

No way to click on Amazon til last second it refreshed . Sold out. Like in seconds.
FLICKING CLINTS.

Did you even look.Come on really, 6800XT beating RTX 3090 across most games across most resolutions and you say it only winds in thermal performance. That is incredible. I have a RTX 3080 and I will be getting the 6800XT.
eh? it matches a 3090 in a couple of the 1080p tests....

I wonder if they will have a raytracing performance uplift after a couple of driver updates-----like Nvidia did. Right now, the performance seems to vary wildly. Some games indeed are about 2080ti equivalent, in ray tracing. But several are much slower.

lol laughable performance numbers. 4K and RT performance is like
Anyone with half a brain should just buy a 3080 TUF or something for extra 50.
its not that far off in 4K raster. A few games its 10fps behind. Many others, less than that, if not the same. Its $50 less and then it also overclocks really well. Bridging back the small gap.

And if you have Zen 3, you can enable SAM, today.

LOL, you need glasses! The 6800XT can't even beat the 3080 much less the 3090!

6800 xt Looks to be a good card. Bench marks seam to be a little over the place from site to site. With what I'm seeing I hate to say it , but I'll probably be getting a 3080 RTX this go round. Since I game at 4k only. Seams the faster memory is really helping Nvidia at 4k. If I had a 1440p monitor and not my LG CX48 I just picked up I would get a AMD 6800 XT all day(have a 5700xt in my system now). I still want to see what the 6800xt can do on water though. Since the 3080 RTX doesn't seam to OC at all.

I've only watched Linus and Hardware Unboxed and I can already tell this launch is going to be contentious. Depending on the game, weight given to raster performance, RTX on/off, DLSS, 1440p vs 4K, SAM and any future with NVIDIA, and weight given to any streaming/professional performance and features the tone of the review will differ greatly.

My impression as a 3080 owner? Great cards. I do value the things NVIDIA is bringing to the table but welcome AMD back to the fray with features 99% of us actually use (raw gaming performance).

The auto overclocking in these is nuts compared to Nvidia. Nvidia's feature takes like 10+ minutes.

Jayztwocents clicked on AMD's auto overclock and it took less than 3 seconds. And it gave him 2500mhz.

Yeah I saw Linus' very quick comments on the encoder. But he didn't really give any details on how they utilized it and they compared it to OBS....with what settings? Anyway, I hope someone does a solid comparison with details.

However, Eposvox (a prominent youtuber who tests streamer and production hardware) told AMD to send him new Navi cards ONLY if they made improvements to the encoder. Annnnnnnnd he doesn't have a video up so....!

Great show by AMD. 1080p/1440p rasterization performance is as good or better than the Ampere cards in most games. 4K and RT performance it is behind in most titles. Based on this, we now have options on what to choose based on individual use cases (if you can actually buy either at some point...).

So what I'm seeing on the RX 6800 XT performance can be summed up fairly easily.

The RX 6800 XT is faster than the RTX 3080 as long as you stay away from...

4K
Ray Tracing
DLSS

Well Done, AMD. Welcome back. :)

(EDIT: This is NOT a dig on AMD. I'm actually very impressed that they have released a competitive product.)

MS FS2020 at 4k was disappointing to see the 6800 XT get significantly outperformed by the 3080.

Still faster than the 2070 Super I shoved into my dad's flight sim build.

Guess it doesn't matter given initial supply was insta-gone even though I was there right at launch.

What about multi-mon support, i have 4 monitors on my 1080 now, the 4th i mostly use to stream hockey games to when its in season, otherwise pi-hole stats, so i can live without it. but i do daily drive all 3 of the other ones, and with a vr headset on the way where would i plug it into? a switch box on one of my 3? looks like the 3080 has 4 ports, at least on the ones i looked at.

Why make compromises when you only need an additional 50 to get everything? SAM only worked in 1 game that was tested. I am sure once it works well in other games, nvidia may/will also have its solution out.

Just saw this on Gamer's Nexus review of the RX 6800 XT. The showed a Control benchmark at 4K between Nvidia cards w/ DLSS vs. the 6800 XT without DLSS.

One word.... oof.

It'll be interesting to see AMD's answer to DLSS.

I do all these things so...

Looking at the 6900xt, hoping it’s that much better than the 3080 in 4k/60Hz w/ Ray Ray Tracing to justify the $1k price, otherwise I’ll wait for better availability of the 3080 or whatever Nvidia’s version of the 3080Ti is.

DLSS is in hardware so there is no performance hit. This is very much expected and a pointless exersize as everyone knows AMD doesn't have DLSS yet. Yes the 4k performance is a bit disappointing but let's wait for the 6900xt and see what that brings to 4k.
