Alien Isolation.... Any good?

I have enjoyed all Alien games so far. This one though, is by far the best, but you have to have patience, and know that death is lurking around every corner. The only thing I didn't like, was it went from outsmarting the alien, to seeing how long you could keep it away after you got the flamethrower. I think it changed the game too much.

It's pretty fun. Been playing it last few nights. Every time the Alien get's me i giggle like a school girl. He'll really sneak up on you and if you are getting into it it can startle you so that's fun. Damn robots are annoying though, and kind of freaky actually.
The ambiance is great. The only thing missing is the Alien doesn't have steaming breath and acid slobber, which is a shame, it really would have added to it. You can also tweak the engine xml for 4k-8k shadows and reflections and i saw a tweak for the Alien that supposedly makes him wander more than track you so he's less predictable.

I replayed it again recently. Still a bit tedious and some of the scripted Alien events are frustrating but its a great game.

yep. I cant tell you how slightly less difficult the game got with that mod. Hes not close but not far enough to grab you if he hears alot of noise. Theres also a mod for exploding revolver ammo. I love using it on packs of humans to pull the alien to them.

I think I never made past the med labs (level 5 I think). Game was too much rinse and repeat, try this trick, that trick nonsense. Also too much sneaking around (was not enjoyable given I am an action fan). It also wasn't good kind of sneaking (like in Splinter Cell where you can improvise). Here, you sneak a certain way or you have an Alien dick up your ass.

Mates, no one will mention the creepiness of those sevastopol androids?

One moment is really creepy when it's dark in the room and eyes are glowing; you turn on flashlight and that android is sitting there watching you.

"Why not ask me about sevastopol safety protocols?"

Madness!! And the sound atmosphere is incręďìbĺə

NecroTaco?

Hope we get a sequel to Alien isolation one day
Maybe they could make some money on a Redux version with completed VR support? There's a lot more VR kits out there today than it was in 2014, that's for sure.

I should replay this or try some of the other game modes. Hiding in a locker isn't my favorite but all and all the game is really well done..

Id rather a sequel as I never replay a game again. Doesn't even have to be a sequel just another alien game similar but this time around you get actual weapons to fight the alien with.

I guess the game didn't sell enough to warrant a sequel.

This is a good game I wouldn't of played it if the price wasn't right on Epic Free the reviews back then had me turned away.
Think the game had performance issues at launch.

It's been a long time but I don't remember any real performance issues at launch but the game was kind of demanding on max settings which made sense as it's still a pretty good looking game today. If it had a better anti-aliasing option then I think it would actually look really damn good even for 2020. I love the atmosphere but even on novice option it's pretty easy to die from synthetics and pretty easy to have the alien get you. I finally had to use the mod where the alien can't detect you which I didn't want to do because it's sort of kills the game but it would be the only way I'll ever make it through as dying over and over and repeating the same sections got kind of infuriating. On more than one occasion I died right at a save spot.

Don't worry, once you get the flame thrower you can finally kill it for good.

I found Alien Isolation to be the best game ever made. And 10 minutes later the most frustrating game ever made. It is a real mixed bag. The biggest issue is the difficulty level. Be prepared to get killed A LOT! Actually, answering the following questions will indicate how much enjoyment there is in Alien Isolation:
1. Do you like the Alien movies? yes/no
2. Do you like really hard games? yes/no
3. Do you like first person puzzle and exploration games? yes/no

If the answer to all of these questions is yes, it is an amazing game.

Lots of credit to the developer for the visuals. Runs great even on older hardware. Over 60 fps maxxed out on old 970M laptop at 1080p. It is incredible how faithful the level design is versus the movies.

I ended up picking this up for $4 one day. I tried playing it, but the game is too boring for me. I've done the whole "play it in the dark with headphones bit", but it just never grabbed my attention.

sometimes people just don't jive with certain gameplay styles. *shrug*

If you get to the part where you first encounter the alien in 60 minutes or less, then the game is definitely not for you. It's not an action game, you need to have the right mindset for it, and if you plunge head first into every dark corridor, then you lack the proper reverence this game requires.

I didn't do that. I don't think I ever encountered the alien. I played it for a couple of hours and knew the game wasn't for me. The lack of action is probably the reason for that.

It was not until recently that I discovered this genre of videogame. Some might call it first person adventure or exploration game. Other games in the genre could include Amnesia, Conarium, The Observer. Of the bunch I found Alien Isolation to be best. But if you are not a fan of the genre it may be because they seem boring or lacking in the action department.

Amnesia: Rebirth is freaking awesome, the story, plot, everything, is way better than the original, and is on par with Alien: Isolation.
The only difference is combat, Isolation has combat, while Amnesia: Rebirth still doesn't.

The total lack of combat made those games a hard pass for me. It's why I refer to them as Amnesia: Run like a Bitch

To each their own!
I just replayed through the first one before playing the newest, and in the first one, I agree, it is Run like a bitch. The enemies are like the classic zombies, slow, dumb, and would probably be easy to kill and survive.

In the latest one though, the creatures are fucking scary, and I would absolutely run away from them as well, unless I had guns, lots of guns. They're very similar to the mental patients from Outlast, another set of enemies I'd legitimately run from in real life without lots of guns.

I only played these games because they were given away for free with the Epic games promotions. Would not have paid money. The first Amnesia game definitely has its moments and seems to be quite original. It kinda felt like a haunted house game.

I only tried Alien Isolation because it was $4. I felt I couldn't go wrong at that price. As I've said, I don't think it's a bad game, it's just not for me.

I will say, the atmosphere and general exploration of the environment was well done and I did derive some enjoyment out of it. I just need more action than the game offers.
