So the big AMD Radeon announcement has come and gone and now we have official pricing from AMD along with a mixed bag of performance results and a new gimmick/mechanism that requires you to have a 5000 series AMD CPU for max performance??

Let's skip that potential controversy and go to the pricing.

6900XT $999
6800XT $649
6800 $579

Talking points - the 6900XT and the 6800XT respectively traded blows with the 3090 and 3080 in the benchmarks that AMD chose to show.
The pricing makes sense to the extent that the performance of the top two cards seems to be neck and neck but the 6800 looks like a HUGE missed opportunity.
The 6800 performs about on par with the 3070 but costs $79 MORE?? That's a huge PILL to swallow considering that AMD is the company that is looking to regain market share but they are priced higher than Nvidia. I know you're going to say - hey more memory. But at that price point an extra 8GB does not make sense and it doesn't make the card perform any faster.

The 6900XT is $500 less than the 3090 ok, good. But is it worth $350 more for a 10% performance bump over the 6800XT? Of course NOT! I blame Nvidia for setting a bad precedent but I blame AMD for taking the bait. Instead of setting the prices as competitive as possible to win marketshare, AMD bumped up their prices to unprecedent levels, and they are not the GPU performance leaders yet. This price bump is premature.

Prices I would have liked to see:
6900XT $799
6800XT $599
6800 $449

If the prices had come in at what I wanted to see consumers would have had to ask themselves - am I just nutty not to jump on AMD with the savings I could have?
Instead we got the first set of numbers and we find ourselves asking uncomfortable questions such as: why would I pay $79 over the Nvidia alternative on the low end of the tier, why wouldn't I just sit tight and pay andextra 50 bucks for Nvidia drivers that "just work", and do I really want to shell out $1000 for a video card when I can get 90% of the performance for 2/3 the price?

I just bought a G-Sync monitor. Will it work with an AMD card?

Lower priced with matched or better performance of Nvidia, I'd call that a win.
Last time I checked the 3070 is $499 and the 6800 is $579. Aren't these the facts? How do you call it a win?

You really feel that AMD is priced right? What video card are you buying from this lineup? What card do you feel offers the best performance to price ratio?
I’m eyeing the 6900XT. Just waiting on official reviews. At $999 it appears to be a much better value than the 3090 it is meant to compete with.

The 6800XT/6800 isn't in competition with the 3070, its in competition with the 3080. It beats or matches the 3080 at a lower price. The 6800 also has double the memory of the 3070 that's where the extra $149 sets in.

The 3070 is a few percent faster or a few percent slower than 2080TI. The 6800 is supposedly up to 18% faster than 2080TI. However we should all wait for independent benchmarks and results before we stand too firm on any opinions just yet.

I'm sure you would have liked to see those prices. However, the days when graphics cards had tons of margin on the top end are long gone. AMD may not be able to sell a 20GB 2.4GHz capable GPU with billions of transistors built on a 7nm process and a 300w TDP for $799.

There are a few Gsync monitors that support freesync, but the manufacturers of them have not made it official. I know the AW3420DW can and I believe the 38GL950G can as well. Needless to say, I had no idea this would be the case when I originally purchased my AW3420DW.

Bumping up from 1060 to a 6800 for ~$600? I'm fine with it. Bumping up from 1080 @ 60 to 1440 @ 144 for <$1000 after monitor is fine by me.

Nvidia has no stock, it’s only natural AMD can set the prices high for what looks like good cards.

The miners screwed us all by showing them prices could go up and people would pay it.

The 6800 is considerably faster than the 3070 based on what we've seen so far. It's something like 20% faster and more memory so it's future proofed far better than the 3070 is. Why should all of that be given away at $50 less? That's crazy and most financial analysts would be scratching their head at that.

6900 XT seems priced very well.

At $649 the 6800 XT will need to beat the 3080 by 5-10% to offset the expected lower RT performance.

$579 for the 6800 is confusing. Would be much more compelling under $500. $579 is too close to the 6800 XT price, which isn't far from the 3080 price.

I think 6800XT is priced well. It trades blows with 3080 and has 6gb more vram, but is $50 cheaper.
I don't know why 6800 exists tbh but ok.
6900XT is for enthusiast gamers, the price is $500 less than 3090, but it trades blows. I wouldn't buy it, but then again, I'm skipping this gen. Or at least waiting to see how Nvidia retaliates.
AMD has better products now than both Nvidia and Intel, lol, talk about a turnaround.

Do you think you're actually going to be able to find one at $499? Nvidia doesn't have a great track record actually delivering products at MSRP.

Speaking just for the 6800 Maybe there was little choice, 16 gig of GDDR6 is a lot, maybe that over $150 USD right there, it certainly make it feel future proof in a way.

One element is that maybe DSSL is not attractive short term for a 6800xt/3800 and above buyer, they will able to run 1440p/4K with high settings for a while no problem I would imagine, DSSL on the mobile device/Laptop/Nintendo consoles and handheld console in general and in the lower range cards is possibly where it can shine (could help make VR happen as well).

What DSSL "3.0"* in 2022 in a game that support it well will enable on those 3060/3070 type of cards, on the 3800/3900 it could be more make 4K look even better, but on the lower card it could make either 120FPS at 1440p possible or 4K 60 possible on some title versus only possible at setting low enough that is visibly worst looking that what dssl experience give you. That still a big ?

You really feel that AMD is priced right? What video card are you buying from this lineup? What card do you feel offers the best performance to price ratio?
I'd probably be a buyer for the 6900XT if the performance claims are legit and pricing really is around $1000. That's $500 cheaper than the 3090, and close enough to "fastest card you can get at any price." The pricing seems perfectly reasonable to me, given the current state of the market.

The only price that seems bad at the moment is the base 6800, especially if it doesn't knock out the 3070. Also, if their RT performance isn't up to snuff, the discount on the 6800 XT might not seem worth it (why not spend the extra 50 bucks for a better feature set and marginally better performance)? It all depends on the reviews, we'll see.

The problem is we don't know the performance difference between the 6800 and the XT. The 3070 and 3080 are significantly apart in performance but not nearly enough in price which is where nVidia has shot themselves in the foot. The 6800 potentially upstaging the 3070 by that much while being that close in price to the 6800XT likely means the two are much closer in performance to each other than the 3070/3080. I'm more excited by the 6800 than the XT at this point because it's what the 3070 should have been to begin with.

pricing seems right. but is there a reason these wont be just as hard to get as a nvidia 3000 series card, if not harder?

RT is for the 60fps crowd.
Rasterization is for the 120fps+ crowd.

A high refresh gamer, that doesn't mind playing on medium-high settings, should consider AMD. More monitor options when using adaptive sync as well.
Those that are locked into Gsync and primarily play single player on Ultra settings at 60fps, can take RT/DLSS into consideration.

Getting 3090 like performance at $999, is a no brainer IMO. 1440p high refresh and high-ultra settings.

I think the 6800 and 6800 XT are priced decently. The 6900 XT probably should be closer to $800. Compared to the 3090 it looks like a great deal, but the 3090 is nowhere near a good value in the first place.

The miners screwed us all by showing them prices could go up and people would pay it.

The original Titan was the one that set that bar, the miners just cranked on it a bit.

The card that is priced too much is the 3070, I would think AMD can and may produce a 8gb version, $499? named like RX 6800 8gb, maybe cut down further and still stomp the 3070 into virtual oblivion. That price allows AMD I think to have that option if they see fit as in if Nvidia can supply enough 3070's. The 3070 if all the benchmarks are accurate should get reduced in price, at least $449 if not below $400.

If these cards have a large OC headroom, the RX 6800 may just shame the RTX 3800 -> how would it look when both are OC and the 6800 beats the 3800 at 1440p? I see this very possible. AIBs will push these GPU's even faster, maybe even 10% faster.

I think the 6800 is priced well. Its faster than the 3070, has double the VRAM and is only $80. The 6800XT I think is good too. Its $50-80 less than most 3080 has 6GB more VRAM and is the same performance. The 6900XT is the one that surprised me the most. Its top end performance matching the 3090 for the same price as the 2080Ti when it launched, has more VRAM than the 2080Ti and is more power efficient than the 2080Ti and 3090. The only thing these cards don't have is a DLSS equivalent. It supports DX RT, but who knows about performance.

As WorldExclusive said if you want to get 4k60fps max settings and RT then the 3080 is your card, no point going 3090 since its only 15-20% faster and that wont do most 4k RT games at 120hz anyways. If you want high refresh gaming the 6000 series IMO is the better choice and value.

I voted for "Just right".

Basically my full response is this: if AMD is accurate in everything that they have said, then the pricing is perfectly in line with what it should be. AMD I think is able to deliver on their promises too, in the sense that for a company like them, they've obviously procured 3080's and 3090's. In other words: they know precisely what they're up against (as they can test their competitions cards directly). And I think Lisa Su is more about bringing straight facts rather than the Raja hype strategy. She's ready to put her money where her mouth is.

Again, if all the above is true then the pricing makes 100% sense and I would say more than fair.
