Hi all,

Finally copped an RTX 3090 FE in last Friday's (10/09/2020) Best Buy drop...yesterday I benched my exact system with the outgoing RTX 2080 Ti FE and did the same afterwards with the new RTX 3090 FE (same OS level and patches, same NVIDIA driver, etc - nothing changed other than slapping in the new GPU). Just 3DMark because I'm lazy, but I did every gamer bench so it is a pretty comprehensive look.

I also thought you guys might enjoy to see the numbers involved with a typical upgrade for me. I sell my parts on eBay and while they kill you with fees it has generally been a pretty good experience for me. The upgrade cost me $791.15 - which is worth it for me.

System Details:
Intel i9-9900KS CPU @ 4GHz (Stock), Cooler Master MasterGel Maker (2019) thermal grease, Corsair H115i 280mm Liquid CPU cooler, G.SKILL Ripjaws V series 64GB 3200MHz DDR4, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 FE (Stock), Samsung 970 Pro NVMe SSD (512GB), Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe SSD (2TB), on an GIGABYTE AORUS Z390 Master motherboard inside of a Cooler Master H500M mid-tower – powered by a Corsair AX1000 power supply (1000W; fully modular).

15,408 - Fire Strike Extreme
8,110 - Fire Strike Ultra

13,628 - Time Spy
6,351 - Time Spy Extreme

3DMark 3090 FE Runs - 10/13/2020

32,649 - Fire Strike (20% gain)
21,084 - Fire Strike Extreme (37% gain)
12,298 - Fire Strike Ultra (52% gain)

18,084 - Time Spy (33% gain) [19,098 with OC: 100% Core Voltage, 114% Power Limit, 90 Celcius Temp Limit, +135 MHz Core Clock, +700 Memory Clock, 100% Fan]
8,933 - Time Spy Extreme (41% gain)

13,054 - Port Royal (53% gain)

Overall: 34% improvement

Financial Info RE: Upgrade

$1,649.33 RTX 3090 FE @ Best Buy

$791.15 total cost of upgrade

$1,289.22 RTX 2080 Ti FE @ NVIDIA (purchased 09/28/2018)
$431.04 cost of owning 2080 Ti FE for ~ 2 years

If you haven't scored your desired 3080 or 3090 - hang in there. It'll come. Don't support the scalpers. Good luck!

EDIT: 11/09/2020 added OC'd Time Spy result (19,098)

Thank you for your efforts, like to see real peoples benchmarks instead of reviewers. Might have to do the same with a Titan V (benchmarks not money stats cause that would hurt me to look at) and a 3090 when it comes in.

Yeah - or wait until the 3080 20GB comes out in late November. :) I personally had to go 3090 because I'm a "best" whore - since you have a Titan V I am guessing you're in the same boat (and even more). :)

the financials lost me
2 diff 2080Ti values
nice improvement!

Sorry, to be more clear:

$1,289.22 RTX 2080 Ti FE @ NVIDIA (purchased 09/28/2018)
minus
$858.18 RTX 2080 Ti FE sold @ eBay ($999.95 + $27.25 S&H charged - fees)
equals
$431.04 cost of owning 2080 Ti FE for ~ 2 years
(365 days * 2 years = 730 days; $431.04 divided by 730 days equals $0.59 per day cost to rent)
$0.59 per day cost to "rent" 2080 Ti FE

Someone bought the 2080 for more than a 3080?! Not really understanding that one but to each his own. I guess cause it's a FE?

BTW, good find on the 3090!

That’s what 2080tis are selling at now. I sold a corroded 2080ti Seahawk EK X for almost $800 last week.

Yeah, the people buying them are likely using them for more than just gaming purposes. Since NVIDIA stopped making the 20xx series and the 30xx series has been scarce, it has created a perfect storm for those that are lucky enough to get a 30xx card...good re-sale in the used market.

Yeah I sold two 2080 Ti's on eBay for $950 each. I think I listed them a little low because they were bought almost instantly. Oh well, I got a free 3090 upgrade at that point since I paid $1900 exact for it.

Same thing happened to me at $1K. DOH! Oh well. Very happy to get that price.

Finally did a bunch of gaming last night, note (all stock, using system above, playing ARK: Survival Evolved):

- 350W max GPU power
- 63 C max temp
- Note the "Performance Limits" hit...curious...

Just got a grand for my Strix on eBay. Listed in the early AM, for less than 4 hours. Crazy! I should have asked for $1200 :D
