EVGA and MSI have transferrable warranties, IIRC. Something to consider maybe if you're the reselling type.

Wow news to me. So what is the better gpu company to go with?

I think they're all pretty much shit except for probably EVGA since they're US based. The companies from Taiwan have outsourced help here in the US from 3rd parties and the warranty service is shoddy at best. I had an ASUS Rampage board that was never fixed by ASUS and instead sent back to me as "working" yet it still didn't. I ended up selling it here on the hardforums for like $50 for parts which is a shame because it cost me $450 new or maybe more. So yeah, if you want good warranty, go EVGA for GPU and motherboards or else suffer the wrath of Taiwanese 3rd party shit warranty service.

Not like it matters. The only thing that will be in stock at EVGA's website are the errors you get when the site is going to crash. :)

Lack of inventory doesn't cause this...

Demand causes it.

Selling off my MSI 3080 to my friend (at cost). Have an EVGA 3080 order in with Amazon that is supposed to be fulfilled by October 16th. Going to just hang tight and wait for the card to arrive and see what else unfolds in the mean time over the coming weeks.

My arrival time updated to 10 October.

Mine updated to..."No Delivery Date" lol. I'm completely fine with that. The further out it goes the better as the more information I'll have about AMD's Big Navi offerings. Just hoping to still have a card in hand by CyberPunk 2077's release date in November.

I'm glad you sold to a friend at cost. That's what friends do. Some dude here was bragging about ripping his "friend" off for $1000+.

Ah I see. Is the oc version worth it though? I never oc my gpu
no...You can overclock it yourself. And EVGA Precision X which works on any 3080 will even overclock it for you automatically with about a 20 minute testing session off of a single click autooverclock button.

Nope it's the same cooler and Nvidia's boost tech does most of the overclocking anyway. Manually overclocking is a waste of time on GPUs these days.

I wonder if the 3070 launch will be this bad. I might end up getting a 3070 if I can find one before a 3080. As long as it’s evga I’ll use the step up program and pray for a 3080

It's hard to say. The 3070 launch should be tempered a tiny bit by all the 2080 and 2080 Ti cards that got sold used. But... how many people from 500 series cards on up are ready to buy? Might be a lot. What we need to hope is that it takes the load off the 3080 demand and people switch BACK to their original idea of the 3070. I've had a lot of customers who said they were waiting for the 3070... then ALL decided "What the hell I want the 3080 instead."

eVGA FTW3 Ultra 3897-KR just popped in stock at eVGA direct, site crashed for a few minutes, and now OoS. That was fast...

eVGA, IMO.

Bought my 980Ti Classified from them directly 5 years ago, and it's still chugging along like an Abrams tank.
I second this. I have had to send off 2 cards for EVGA. Both went awesome and had the replacement fast. I am only looking at the 3080's in EVGA as well.

This bot shit is out of control. They can’t use a captcha on the site to combat this issue? There has to be a workaround or maybe they just don’t care so they will sell as many cards as fast as possible.

Evga has a 5 yr warranty no matter what happens? Also what is this step up program and transferable warranty mean? I'm guessing it's when u sell the warranty goes from seller to buyer and this can't be done with other gpu companies? I read somewhere that evga will be allowing you to change the red ring on the gpu so that is great Id like it blacked out. I just wish the gpu had aluminum plate i think i read its plastic or maybe that's the msi?

was able to see add to cart.....clicked add to cart.......and then nothing. And of course just to mock me it shows I have 3 different models in my cart (from different days) that I cant buy lol.

Temperatures on this card are quite a bit warmer than my 1080 but could be due to the airflow of my NZXT H510.

I played Assassin's Creed Origins last night for a couple of hours (2560x1440 144hz, ultra settings) and the card temperatures were in the mid-70c's but not crazy high. I paused the game to make/eat dinner and came back to the card hitting the upper 80c's (room ambient temperature was about 72) with the side glass panel being almost too hot to touch. The rear exhaust also was putting out pretty significant heat.

I played for 15 minutes just to monitor any thermal throttling but didn't see anything. I turned the game off and let the card drop to about the mid 30c idle temperature then adjusted the fan curve to "aggressive" in EVGA's software. I spun up the game again, played for a bit, and then left it for an hour with the temperatures sitting around 68-70c. The fan's didn't see that much noiser but they were louder for sure.

I'll keep monitoring but it's been a long time since I had to be concerned about thermal issues with any PC components. Guess I'm getting old.

1. 3 year standard with 5 and 10 years for an optional charge.

2. Step-up is a program that allows someone to buy a video card then step up to a newer/better card within 90 days of purchase, allocating the full purchase price of the original card to the new card, then the buyer pays the difference.

3. Yes, the warranty follows the GPU for the warranty period.

Demand plays a part DooKey but something new has entered the fray with the RTX 30 series: supply, demand but also now (due to the "scarce" supply) resale profit margin. All these hardware scalpers know that as long as the RTX 3080 and the rest of the 30 series is or will be in "scarce" supply at all retailers and the retailers don't admit otherwise the 3080 for now (and other 30 cards later) will be as valuable on the 3rd party resale market as the Air Jordan XI Retro "Space Jam" shoes (a very rare and valuable Air Jordan pair). They know they can buy up all the supply, sell back the 3080 and other 30 series cards down the road for 2X, 3X and up to 4X the price and get a sale here and there from somebody. In other words nVIDIA's launch of the 30 series isn't really a "launch" more than at the moment it is a "money making scheme". I say that because that's what the scalpers think it is. The only way and time this hardware scalping season ends in my mind is when Amazon, Newegg, eVGA, nVIDIA, CDW, Micro Center, Best Buy, Fry's, Tiger Direct say in one clear, unified voice: "The inventory stock of the RTX 3080 and all RTX 30 series cards has reached nominal or optimal stock going forward!" Here's why that is magnanimously important: the minute inventory stock at all these places goes from considered "scarce" to "nominal " or "optimal" supply and that fact is made public by all retailers that means the card(s) are so available you can go to any of these places any time of day and highly likely get one at MSRP. When that happens resale profit margin falls back to at or below MSRP. Then and only then will the hardware scalpers stop because at that point there's no more money to be made in profit. They can only get back what they spent or less and at that point? There's no point anymore. That's what I currently have and until next time I am out!

I'm only half guilty, I won't touch PNY, Zotac or Gigabyte. The Gigabyte mainly because it is ugly. Also the stock MSI Ventus seems iffy and it's hard to find solid numbers on the OC version.

Otherwise I'm not too picky, any EVGA card will do or the Asus TUF. Maybe the top end Asus or MSI but I'll need a slim case fan in front to fit those.

For me, I like Gigabyte Gaming model because it comes with two HDMI ports and 1800mhz boost clock. I don't care how it looks since my case is not transparent.

Which brand card is this? 80c is super high if your room temp is 72.... don't like seeing gpu much higher than 65

Popped back in to stock at nVidia direct. I added to cart, did the pictoral Captcha, but it just hung there without advancing. Refreshed....aaaaaand GONE.

Step up is kind of pointless 90 days is hardly enough lol might jus stick with asus lol

I wonder how many people here are using bots and selling the cards on eBay? Like damn, can someone using bots on this site help us that can’t buy it

I've been tempted to use a bot just so I can get a card for myself. I'm sure it's not that simple though.

I haven't looked into temps for the other cards, but 75C under load seems to be pretty common for the EVGA XC3 Ultra. Mine hasn't really gone past that though, at least in initial benchmarks.

I learned how to setup Distill. But even with that and a notification within 10 seconds of stock being available i'm too late. Always close enough to add to cart but never to finish transaction. I think you would have to go full in and learn how to fully automate the entire purchase.

I guess I'll steer clear of evga. My current card is an asus strix. With room temps from 78 to 80 degrees it has never gone past 73. When room temps are 72 it sits at 65 only.

ASUS has the best 3080 cards by far so you can't go wrong with them. The only reason to pick EVGA is for the warranty otherwise their cards are pretty mediocre.

Lads, cn you like stick to one metric? You keep saying room temps are in the 80s and that's nothing compared to card, which is 'smoldering hot'🙄

Please stick to either Celsius or fascinating

That's quite... fascinating

On a serious note, the eVGA site keeps timing out, so either there is more maintenance going on, or stock is trickling in and the traffic is dragging things down.

The nVidia page no longer shows the Out of Stock message under the price. Wonder if they implemented some changes to combat all the bot users. Anyone else seeing the OoS message gone with just a blank area taking its place?

[EDIT]
NM...the OoS message under is price is back.

They had them, at least 5 different models, not that I was interested in buying one but wanted to see how long it would take for them to sell out
