Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

OT: I love these quotes...

“It was never our real motive for From Software to be the Dark Souls-only company.”- Hidetaka Miyazaki, 2016 [President of Fromsoftware]

“I feel that From Software’s title lineup will need a little more variation…We have dark fantasies like Dark Souls, of course, but I’d also like for us to make more mech games like Armored Core, or Asian style titles like Tenchu or Otogi: Myth of Demons. From Software used have a lot more rather quirky titles.”- Miyazaki 2014

LOL, they're bringing that on themselves. Sekiro and Bloodborne are great, but c'mon.
Guess we'll see what the Elden Ring brings to the table. I'm okay with them simply being "the Dark Souls company" as long as the games are good and they continue to sell.

Iunno man, you can still find plenty of people right now that would love them to make a new Armored Core. Myself included.
Also (myself included again) plenty of people that greatly prefer Bloodborne to Dark Souls.

Sure, but Armored Core is pretty far in the rear view mirror at this point. They don't seem to be planning any more either.
Bloodborne basically IS Dark Souls. At least 75%. Obviously there are nuanced differences, but the game ranges from kissing cousin to straight-up sequel under another name due to licensing. Sekiro deviates a lot more, but it still has a ton in common with DS. That's why they have this reputation. It's all they've done lately. Rockstar has the same type of reputation and it's not exactly a bad thing. At least as long as the games are well received.

getting ready to reformat my drive and ran across some Sekiro screenshots...

Boss rush mod and deathless challenges, I'll be playing again when the update comes out that's for sure. I still haven't done 2 of the endings yet, gives me a reason to.

This is the only game I ever got platinum on ! Loved it every second of it.

I also got the Platinum for Sekiro...one of the Achievements was really annoying and required a bit of grinding/farming in NG+2 (Acquire All Skills)

I'll probably platinum it after the update. Sekiro has been my favorite game since Dark Souls 1. The only reason I quit playing it was I didn't want to burn out by doing 4 playthroughs in a row, so I only did two.

I wish the update was coming out right now because I've been so bored lately waiting for Cyberpunk, this would give me something to do until then, might just install the boss rush mod that is avaliable and practice for a no death run ;)

They sort of stumbled into it though. Demon's Souls was the original and it was great. It was also one of those "too hard for American gamers we are going to keep this in Japan" games that actually managed to get ported over to the US due to importers raving over it and then Dark Souls went multi platform rather than stay PS only.

FWIW I liked Demons more than any of the Dark Souls games, and Sekiro and Bloodborne were a nice change of pace.

Calling Demons Souls the original is a bit of a misnomer, they’ve been making this sort of gameplay since the Shadow Tower and Kings Field series. Granted those were first person view points but they shared other similarities of the genre and game mechanics.

Souls was just when it really took off and became a hit though. Before that I think Armored Core was more what they were known for.

I want a new armored core

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | Game of the Year Edition

the update adds a boss-rush styled boss challenge mode, unlockable character skins, and player recordings...the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice game of the year update will be free to all owners, and it will release on October 29th...

Thats kind of nice to see an update, but it would be nice to see more actual game content, New Game+ mode with differences and new content, and perhaps an expansion or two Dark Souls 3 style.

Anyone else getting bad frametimes with the new update? I still hold 60FPS but frametimes seem to fluctuate a lot, even with G-Sync I feel stutter as well.

EDIT: I seemed to fix it if anyone has the same issue. Just cap the game at 59.9 in Rivatuner. Game is now smooth with both V-Sync "ON" and "Forced Off" in NVCP. Not sure if having Rivatuner and the Ingame limiter enabled adds input lag, feels ok to me though.

I already got 100% of the achievements so not much left to do even with the new features/skins...fantastic game though and one I'll revisit in the future...one of those games I can play years later and still enjoy...

Looks like I missed 2 achievements along the way. No clue what they would be and are hidden. I'm due for a replay, though.

Bit of a necro but I finally decided to commit to this one, only this and ds2 to complete all the From souls games. I’ve been trying to get into ds2 but just don’t like it one bit.

This game is absolutely brutal but it’s great so I’m pushing through. I just beat the guardian ape, my fourth boss, and man was he a pain. Every boss and mini boss takes me many, many tries. I just have to be able to say I beat this damn game!

this game has some of the hardest non-bosses in any From Software title...

I wish there was an in game counter that showed you how many times you died to each enemy. I’m guessing the long shadow warrior and shichiman warrior have killed me the most so far. Lady butterfly gave me trouble at first, I let it go for the night and beat her first try the next day. The snake eyes enemies hassle me like crazy too. Only mini boss I’ve encountered that I haven’t beaten yet is the headless in the hidden forest, hopefully will have him out of the way soon.

Hardest boss in this game for me by far was the final form owl father which is an optional boss. He just has such a big array of attacks.

once you figure out their movesets I didn't find any of the bosses too difficult...even the hyped up final boss wasn't too bad after you see all his phases and moves...it's the non-bosses that gave me more trouble...I forget their names now but a few of them were ridiculous because of the cramped space

I'm not sure if it's an optional boss (I think it was) but towards the end of the game there was a really difficult one...2 of them, poison attacks, hard hitting...I need to look up the name

Both versions of Owl are optional IIRC, both depend on choices you make. The one I thought was very hard was the one at Hirata Estate, he's up there with Inner Isshin.

edit; I do need to replay Sekiro again it's been a very long time. I played through the game 3-4 times but it was all within the first few months of release.

same here...it's been awhile since I played...I got the 100% Achievement and haven't played since...might do another run before Shadow of the Erdtree hits...Sekiro is not as massively long as all the other From games so it's not as much of a time sink

Just beat him today, fight was a total slog. Gave the corrupted monk a few tries once I reached fountainhead palace but decided to throw in the towel for the day. I enjoy this game a ton but it really is just one brick wall after another. It’s nice to be in areas here and there when you can just clear out normal enemies, I don’t know if I even died once in Senpou palace.
