So i'm still on a 7600k and been thinking about upgrading to a 10600k, but AMD 4000 series is coming out later this year. The most demanding thing I do is game. Vive Pro, and sim games like x4:foundations, and stuff that relies heavily on single core. I kinda want to try out amd but not sure how that'll work with games like X4:Foundations, Kenshi, Civ6, planet coaster, ect.

We have a Ryzen 2600 on our Oculus Rift S. I would say the video card is the important factor on VR. Went with AMD because the price is very competitive. Since then we have gone to all AMD on our desktops (Ryzen 7 1700, Ryzen 5 1600, Ryzen 5 2600 and Ryzen 3 3200G). No regrets.

And the cool thing is, the Ryzen 2 / 3000 Series is an actual significant upgrade for the Ryzen + / 2000 Series. :)

all speculation at this point but Zen 3 / Ryzen 4000 will probably be a bit higher in single threaded performance than Comet Lake considering how close Zen 2 is. Also Intel Rocket Lake is going to be a thing, still 14nm++++++ process but new arch. Might as well wait till winter when there's new options.

Whether you go with Ryzen 4000 EOY/early-21 or pick up a 3900X today, tremendous power (and value).
