The Last of Us: Part II

Nice, I like the way you think.

Thanks, me too. Usually.

so you're doing the complete Naughty Dog Collection playthrough!...that's real commitment right there

Indeed! I figured I'd just immerse myself in their world for a bit.

Hah, I've been wanting to replay the Uncharted games too, but not sure I'd have time for that before TLoU 2 is out. Lost Legacy is most definitely worth picking up. It wasn't nearly as long as Uncharted 4 and its story wasn't as deep either, but its a nice standalone side story and it was cool that Nathan's brother, Sam, tags along for the 2nd half or so.

Thanks, I'll pick it up and fit it in.

If you've got time on your hands, you should! Otherwise, definitely just replay TLoU before you get 2.

Uh oh, a trans character? Here we fucking go with the stupid controversy.

It's been a while since we had a AAA game for the world to shit on ad nauseum. I think the last one was probably Fallout 76? I have a feeling TLoU2 will be the next one. Note that I'm not saying it would be deserving of it.
Don't compare this to that garbage fallout game made by a garbage developer that shits all over the dumbass fans. They open their mouths wide open to shovel Bethesda's shit. Trans characters or not TLoU2 will be awesome

Yeah, like I said I don't think it will deserve it. I think it's going to be a spectacle from start to finish.

I'll admit the spoilers made me lose a lot of interest, but the internet reaction on both sides is hilarious.

The details spoiled indicate a very high potential for poor plot and writing, I'll be taking a wait and see approach. Plenty of off the beat reviews that don't try to pander to one side or the other.

A lot of times when something happens to characters, people turn their feelings into "it's bad writing."

The ONLY thing I'm hesitant about is the dogs, I don't wanna kill dogs, even virtually.
Really ? It's OK to kill people, but not dogs? If someone or something attacks me and wants to kill me I have no problem with defending myself. There were dogs in many games, this is the least controversial bit.

TBH Fallout 76 deserved most of the criticism, the last game that was dumped on unfairly was ME:A

Yeah! It's a game, they're bad guys, you're supposed to be okay with wanting them dead.
They trained the dogs to attack, the dogs don't know "right vs. wrong" (I get it, it's just a game.) I just think that's more upsetting than a trans character. I'm still going to play the shit out of it, dogs or no dogs, trans or no trans.

Yes. People suck and dogs are generally innocent creatures that would love and trust you til death.

I don't care what happens to characters, I'm not that attached to Joel and Ellie, but assume away.

It's almost a given that these types of changes are handled in a hamfisted way, rather than something like The Wire. I'm leaving room to be surprised, but I'm not going to be on the day 1 train.

Edit: The dog thing is hilarious, seriously its a game, their pixels. Why people take these moral stances is beyond me, feels I guess.

I saw the spoilers awhile ago. It isn't an outrage that there's a Trans character... It's an outrage in what the he-she does and the plot.

It's a game, I'm still gonna kill the dogs. To me though, that should be more controversial than the trans.

I'm on the day 1 train, good story or not, it's going to have great gameplay. That is reason enough for me to play it.

I always have a moral dilemma about the actual bad guys in games / movies. Most of them are not actually bad guys just indoctrinated or hired help. Not inherently evil. That's why I like games where non-lethal takedown is an option.

That's why I'm not a dog person, they are too easy to manipulate like they don't have a mind of their own.
Plus I'm always uncomfortable around dogs that I'm not familiar with, no matter how friendly they appear they can go off at anything, there are just too many dog "accidents".

Games are a non-issue for me with bad guys. Movies, a little more so, especially the films where it explores why the bad guys are bad, and it's a tortured upbringing, all they've known, etc.

Since they introduced animals in the Far Cry series, my favorite entry was Primal, because you could practically play the entire game without killing animals, you could bait them and befriend them.

Cats > Dogs

Well, it'll have decent gameplay, wouldn't say great as TLOU and UC model is wearing a bit thin. to each their own, if they handle the storey well I'll pick it up around christmas, if they botch it I'll leave it on the shelf.

The dog sees in your soul, your afraid for a reason and their right.

Jokes aside, there is way to many shitty dog owners on the planet, if the dog is bad its because the owner is a POS. If the cat is bad, its just because cats suck.

Never had a friendly dog go off, but I'm a dog person and even have little problem dealing with aggressive dogs.

I've killed plenty of evil dogs in the Dark Souls games and never felt any remorse

The Last Of Us Part 2 On PS4 Pro Makes More Sound Than An Air Conditioning Unit

Gene Park, who writes for The Washington Post’s gaming outlet Launcher, reported on Twitter today that The Last of Us part 2 suffers from a lot of noise issues when playing on the PS4 Pro...

"I have a first model PS4 Pro. Vents are clean. During The Last of Us 2, the fans are louder than my air-conditioning unit. They were so loud I had to raise the volume up on my speakers. Even when I knocked it down to 1080p mode"

The first and even second gen PS4 Pros are well known to have extremely noisy fans. They do it with all the most graphically intensive games. The later model Pros, especially the newest one, are way way quieter

how many PS4 Pro revisions have there been?

I think I have a 2nd revision Pro, I got it several months after the Pro first launched around the time Horizon ZD came out. Most of the demanding PS4 exclusives with Pro support make its fan spin up audibly for a couple mins every 5-10 mins it seems. I would imagine those games are already pushing the console to 95%+ utilization already, so TLoU2 shouldn't be much different. Worst case, I'll just sit it next to my entertainment center on the cool tile and put my quiet tower fan on it to help it out and/or use either my Sony Gold headphones or WH-1000 XM3s with noise canceling, lol.

But yeah, the newer revisions for the past couple years are significantly quieter. I remember they came out a couple years ago along with the 500 million limited edition PS4 Pro that also had the revised cooling and Digital Foundry tested it next to a launch revision Pro model and it was a night/day difference.

This is one of the reasons I'm hesitant to buy any launch console, because for the past several generations, there have been moderate revisions to the consoles throughout its life cycle to considerably improve its cooling and acoustic performance and in turn, its reliability and longevity.

If they sold a nice 3rd party cooler/heatsink to improve the cooling on the consoles, I would love to just be able to swap it out if it makes the console much quieter. I've tried cleaning them out in the past and even replacing the thermal paste on my old PS3 and xbox 360, but that alone didn't seem to help much at least on those consoles.

They need a repasting. I have one of the first PS4 pro and was loud as fuck. I was getting artifacts from time to time also. I took it apart and repasted it with thermal grizzly and was silent afterwards. There was a complete lack of paste on the apu and what was on there was dry and crusty.

I guess I'll try repasting my Pro then. I have a brand new tube of this Noctua Pro-Grade paste to use on it. I've never used it before, so hopefully it's as good as the reviews say it is, but in all my reading, I've never seen the delta between the best and worst paste being more than a few degrees Celsius under full load.

I'm guessing the PS4/Pro uses an APU so it's all one chip instead of having the CPU and GPU seperate? I'll look up a teardown vid after work.

loud is subjective but when someone says it's as loud as an air conditioning unit that really makes me think what Sony was thinking releasing it like that...that's crazy loud

The only time I've heard my Pro get as loud as an AC unit is when I forgot to open the door on my entertainment center so it can breath, else it will cook itself inside my cabinet and max the fan out trying to stay alive. It has never maxed the fan out like that otherwise when it was properly ventilated, though it will ramp up to pretty audible levels still as I mentioned before. So if someone is claiming that, I'd have to say that either their console needs to be cleaned out and/or put in a better ventilated area, or worst case needs new paste applied to its heatsink.

I believe the PS4 Pro with the updated AC plug (two prong, instead of three) is at least the third revision. It was the model that was bundled with RDR2 over the holidays. I'm not sure if there's been revisions since.

so anyone that buys a PS4 Pro today will definitely get the latest revision? (not counting Ebay of course)

I think it'll depend on where you live/supply & demand, your best bet is to get one of the newest bundles.

I'm going to be playing on a regular PS4. It's the first revision that came out, the one they bundled with the Uncharted remaster.
I'll let you all know how loud it gets when I play this.

I forgot all about this game. With all of the delays and way too far in advance announcements, I was thinking this was a PS5 title now. Guess it's only a few weeks away, though. Can't say I loved the original. Half that game was an instakill stealth mission, which isn't exactly my thing. Still, I enjoyed the game world and the latter sections a lot.
Hopefully this one isn't as tough to get into. I stopped and started the first game 2-3 times before I finally willed myself to keep playing.

I just started Uncharted 4 last night, and I picked up The Lost Legacy to play next, then TLoU, then:

has it been announced whether PS4 owners will be eligible for a free upgrade to the PS5 version?

has it been announced whether PS4 owners will be eligible for a free upgrade to the PS5 version?

No, because they haven't even announced there will be a PS5 version yet. They're either going to do what they did with TLOU and do a complete remaster for PS5 or they will patch it on PS5 since it will be BC with the PS4 version.

If I had to guess, they will just patch the game for PS5 since it will already be BC with the PS4 version and that wasn't an option for TLOU on PS4. But I wouldn't be surprised if Sony wants to double-dip and cash in with another remaster to resell as well. Either way, I will probably be getting it on the PS5 if just for 60 FPS that I would hope they'd patch in like they did on TLOU remaster.
