What Mouse and Keyboard Are You Using Right Now?

New 40% built. Soldered it up at work today.. haha. Just need a small/medium size mouse to go with it.

Picked up a Ducky with Reds for the wife for Christmas -- can't believe how solid this keyboard feels versus most of the mechanicals I've used. Night and day difference!

Also picked up a Cooler Master MM711 for mobile use. I tend to use fingertip grip, muscle memory from using the trash that Dell and HP provide with desktops, so the smaller mice work out better for me. Build is stiffer than the Glorious Model O- and ergonomics / shape aren't as nice, but the buttons are good, the tracking is great, and I warmed up to it quickly. Wal-Mart (of all places) has these for US$49, so if you fancy a smaller, super lightweight, high-performance gaming mouse, CM has your rodent.

Mouse: G402 Hyperion Fury
Keyboard: Razer Ornata Chroma. Don't like the BS software to use the LEDs though and would like media volume control. So probably will replace this next.

SteelSeries Apex 100 keyboard $30 (it was too cheap so they discontinued it years ago)
Rocat Kiro wired mouse $20 refurb

I can't imagine spending more than $50 on either component and never have in 20 years.

I hate that my mouse wire is always getting stuck on something so I just ordered a wireless G305 Logitech. The lag is supposedly about zero nowadays so I will give it a shot.

If the shape works for you, you should be very happy with its performance. I use a G305 as my travel mouse, and they've really improved the wireless tech in recent years. Pretty much every Logitech mouse I've used starting with the G900 has had instantaneous response time and no stutter, lag, or sluggishness.

Have a pair of Logitech G413s that I really like, and Steelseries Rival 300 has been my mouse for a long time.

But I recently decided to clean up the desk, so for end of the year I got myself a Steelseries Apex 7 TKL and a Rival 650. Really happy with both, though SSE doesn’t seem to want to let me change any settings or lighting on the mouse. (Seems to be a common problem? Waiting to hear back from support on it.)

This is my first TKL keyboard, wasn’t sure I’d like it but I’m a steelseries fanboy and wanted less clutter so I decided to take a chance and upgrade everything (I even got the wireless Arctis Pro headset, and I’m absolutely in love with that). I use the tenkeys a lot on my work system but I’m finding I really don’t miss them on the home one - I only do the budget once a month and usually from a laptop without tenkeys anyways, so it’s not as big a change as I thought it would be. Really like being able to have keyboard/mouse a little more centered for those rare times I can play something for 20 minutes.

Fnatic ministreak with kingston hyperx doubleshot pbt keycaps and logitech g pro wireless with tigerarc ptfe feet. Absoutely love both of them.

Nice work!

I don't understand the appeal of smaller than full size IBM layout keyboards, but I admire your soldering skills. You are much better at that than I am.

Just hope no one connects your H account with your admitted goofing off at work :p
Nah, it isn't goofing off. I have to maintain my IPC 7711B/7721B qualification, so this counts as practice time.

But -- small keyboards can be neat with layer switching. It isn't super practical for typing a lot though. I prefer a 60% keyboard, or TKL keyboard. A full size keyboard isn't necessary IMO. I even do a lot of number entries at work with 8-12 digits, and I'm just as quick as with using a number pad.

I like the idea of these but I wonder how it would affect things like programming, where you use a lot of keys that don't exist any more. (I understand a lot of these mini keyboards use QMK now and can use layers to map multiple virtual keys to a single physical key but I wonder how useable it is)

I'm using a Corsair Strafe RGB Mk.2 and a Scimitar Pro.

I ordered an Ergodox Infinity that I hope to receive someday (ordered the thing from Kono at the end of February, and various stupid things seem to have held up production forever--apparently they are just now finally making them and I hopefully will get it in around 6 weeks.

It isn't too difficult and you quickly get used to it. Here's my layer setup.

I just switched my main rig at home from a Das 5Q (great keyboard but LEDs aren't very bright) to a Razer Huntsman Elite (RGB bling galore). The Mouse was a Swiftpoint Z mouse (great mouse, especially if you like to customize / program custom functions into it) but ut is now is a Mamba Elite I got used from one of the guys here on [H].

I liked my last setup but my OCD was pushing me to get into one driver ecosystem / brand instead of 3 or 4 different ones for all of my peripherals. Since my main rig's case is a LL 011 Dynamic Razer edition, I figured what the heck ... and decided to give Razer gear a shot.

Think 6.5 polycarb case
Rama heavy Industry keycaps
Durock stabs ( lubed )
Tangerine switches 62g stock ( break in before lubed and filmed )
Summit cable

Almost finished after getting my stuff. I built this board with a hot swap PCB to break in the switches. Afterwards I will switch to the pcb that can be soldered ( also pictured ). I swapped the top brass badge for the yellow badge. The cord will be swapped out once I get one to match. This cord was going to be for a different build.

Think I've found my gaming endgame: Durgod Taurus 320 tenkeyless (MX Silvers), Magicforce number pad, Razer Viper Ultimate. I still use my Logitech MX Keys keyboard (not pictured) for work because I type so much faster and more accurately with it.

I've been looking closely at Durgod, especially in comparison to Ducky and their new Mecha line.

One of them needs to make an all-white version in TKL with Silent Reds stat.

I'm very impressed with the Durgod's build quality. It's on par with Ducky, Varmilo and every other mech keyboard I've used.

After using the Ducky I picked up for my wife for Christmas, I don't want to go back to the K70 I'd been using. I'd rather use that pink mess with flowers.

So, here's hoping they build one I like soon :)

The Ducky's are surprisingly good keyboards.

I had a similar experience. I bought a Ducky One 2 (white, with white LED's) with brown switches for my Fiance when I built her a computer last year. I was surprised how much I liked it after previously not caring for any Cherry-based keyboard I had tried.

I liked it so much that shortly after that I replaced my old Model M with a black Ducky One with white LED's and green switches. I figured I'd get the heaviest and clickiest switches Cherry had to offer to ease the transition from the Model M.

Shortly after that, I bought another one but with clear switches and added o-rings to have a "quieter for work" model that wouldn't bother others in the office.

They have quite a large catalogue of keyboards. What do you like in a keyboard that they don't current offer?

Well, from Ducky, it's that their metal keyboard (the Mecha Mini) is a 60%'er. My wife's is a 65%'er, and well, I need TKL for fast access to the function row and I have too much muscle memory with the text navigation blocks.

For Durgod, they don't yet make a white keyboard with white (or RGB) backlighting... and I'd prefer white, as RGB rarely does white well, let alone uniformly well.

So you want metal?

I can understand the size preference. Personally I won't use any keyboard that doesn't have a full IBM layout, including the numpad. I don't find any of the smaller sizes or alternate layouts acceptable for my use.

I've never looked into metal case keyboards though.

Mostly, I want it as solid as I can get it, especially if I'm spending north of US$100.

I'm tired of hunting around, and I'm not (yet) interested in building from the ground up.

Mouse - Logitech MX-518 (old version)
Keyboard - Logitech G15

I have been thinking about upgrading them for a while but I just don't find a good reason to do it since they're still working like a charm.

Well, for what it's worth, I've been impressed with the Ducky material quality. It may be plastic but it is strong. Can't imagine it breaking without some serious abuse

I absolutely agree -- it's more about the typing experience.

Both Ducky and Durgod seem to be leading the way toward a more quality experience; I just need one of them to make a keyboard at that level with my specs :).

Nothing special, just a Microsoft SideWinder HKA-00001 mouse that I've been using for the past 15 years.

use the same as you. I don’t know what I’m going to do when I wear the mouse out. Most newer ones I look at don’t look like they’ll fit my hand like my 518.

I tried a G502 for a while but it just doesn't fit my hand like I'm used with the MX518. Mine had a lot of wear but I've painted it a few times, also the cable has had some issues but also fixed it a few more times.

Mouse - Logitech G402
Keyboard - IBM model M

I'm looking for a replacement keyboard and right now I'm leaning towards the Das 4 Pro with the brown Cherry MX.
