The 3500x beats Intel's 9400F in terms of pricing, matches it in performance, and has an actual upgrade path being higher zen 2 chips in the same product line.

Available for under $120 on Aliexpress. The 9400F retails for $160 on Newegg.

PS This also makes the 2600 irrelevant which is probably why it is sold only on Aliexpress.
Once 2600 stock is sold out, I expect the 3500x to be sold mainstream.

Is there any reason to pick Intel anymore?

Yes actually... Nostalgia... first PC was built using paper route $$ for the new 166mmx, because mmx was the shit and then blowing a paycheck for the newest PII 350 on that 100mhz FSB! (even though I'm currently using the 3700X :cautious:)

You already have a motherboard setup with it? I've used 9400F's in a couple builds. They aren't bad when they are closer to $125-130 as they have been on sale. At $160, it's a stretch. Also availability. 3500x being an OEM part isn't as easy to come by especially if you don't want to wait for a CPU from China.

As "kirbyrj" stated, it is an OEM-only part - and it's only for the Chinese market. It will not be available worldwide.

And if you're going to be waiting for a CPU in that price bracket outside of China that has more than 4 cores, officially you may have to wait two more generations.

The 3500x sounds ok, but availability makes it seem less interesting

9400F is $130 at Microcenter, $20 off, if you buy a motherboard. I really wanted to do one earlier this year, the problem was there was not a reliable result of finding a budget motherboard that actually supported the CPU on the shipped BIOS. So I just went with AMD instead.

I don't have the 2600 but I know that switching SMT makes my 3600 a 6 core cpu if Tech City wants to really show case the 3500X = turn SMT off on the others and retest it .

3500x is Chinese retail as well. When you can get a 3600 for $175 or less it's kind of a wash. Aside from AliExpress being tax free
