Hmm, seems interesting? Not sure yet

Obviously, this isn’t a fair benchmark since a 2080 is much faster than a 2060, so it’s expected that the 9980HK laptop would be much faster than the 3750H laptop. Since the AMD laptop was only equipped with a 2060, it was much more limited by the power of the GPU than the Intel laptop. This kind of marketing from Intel isn’t surprising given what we’ve seen from them in the past.”

That’s really stupid. Like, really stupid. You can’t even pretend that’s not deceptive marketing because the test is showing an overall performance comparison, not a CPU benchmark. They’re obviously, blatantly, and intentionally trying to deceive consumers.

That's what happens when the competition has you beat in every segment.

AMD has not yet matched Intel in the largest segment well until the 7nm APUs are out.

Oh Ryan.

From AMD perspective to Intel shill.

You mean from AMD shill, to Intel employee. You expect it from the employee. If this info is elsewhere than the adoredtv youtube (which I will not give him views for), link?

You know why you can't buy an AMD laptop with a higher end GPU? Oh right Intel pays manufactures for all the design wins and to stifle competition like they always do.

AMD only has dual and quad core APUs at the moment on their 12nm Zen+ node. When they get their 7nm Zen2 parts out with 6 and 8 cores at the top end I expect the highest end GPUs in AMD based laptops.

Can't you pair a discrete GPU using USB-C ? Seems like they could have tried to not hide every solutions..

Man, this is a guy I used to respect in the industry. Kyle would NEVER stoop to this level. This is a perfect example why GOOD journalists shouldn't take jobs at corporations like this. It just crushes credibility and it took a nice hit right now. Good luck Ryan, when its time for Intel to cut jobs because they will be looking at fingers to point if AMD keeps the momentum.

Ryan and Ashraf are going to be stung hard in the ass this year if they keep up this awesome marketing.

Ryan has gone way downhill man. You know why you can't buy an AMD laptop with a higher end GPU? Oh right Intel pays manufactures for all the design wins and to stifle competition like they always do.
Almost right, but not quite. What Intel does is deliver full PLATFORMS to laptop OEMS. AMD does not do this. Using Intel platforms in mobile saves laptop OEMs a huge amount of R&D money that AMD cannot match.

Well first off, Ryan is not a journalist any longer and has changed careers. If you take the slide at face value with no context it does look dodgy, but as Ryan posted on Twitter, that was not the way it was used in the preso. The preso very much focused on what actual systems were available for purchase and the performance of those. Context is everything.

Sometimes its best not to compare anything if it isn't apples to apples? I mean, it smells of a desperation move.

Only Apple can market inferior products and succeed...

It smells of desperation to take a single slide out of context in order to make a news headline. Adored has been on an anti-Ryan campaign for quite a while and this smells of that. It is not like Intel was using that single slide out to PR making statements about it.

Listen, I am not going to even start to tell you that I agree with all of Intel's marketing tactics, but this this attack seems a bit more predatory than a journalist just reporting what happened.

Edit: And for clarification, I sent this link to erek to see if he wanted to post it. (I think this is the FIRST time I have ever sent erek a story.) Then I got some context from Ryan and it surely changed the storyline around a LOT.

The product (the Intel powered laptop) was not inferior to the other product (the AMD powered laptop), imho. For gaming, at least, it is the superior product. Both were chosen because they were the best available of the two competing platforms.

You could have connected an external GPU to both laptops, but then the comparison would be of something else (the CPUs and chipsets, not the laptop as a whole). Not everything is strictly a CPU or GPU comparison, and it shouldn't be.

I nearly forgot why you don't want to use desktop Ryzen CPUs -- they don't ship graphics in them!

And given that the current Ryzen 3000 APUs are Zen + and Polaris-based, they're quite unlikely to compete with efficiency-tuned Intel (and Nvidia) parts.

Appreciate the digging into the details.

I for one learned a while back not to trust AdoredTV, and refuse to watch his videos or give him clicks. He's on a crusade.

I wouldn't be surprised if those Intel full platform deliveries come with strings attached.
TLDR: OEMs get free design handouts and don't offer equivalent spec high end AMD systems.

Well, when your company does not have to spend a dime on system design, this is a great value.

AMD would do this as well, but simply does not have the resources to pull it off.

Very funny. And the guys at Intel aren't wearing suits anymore. They want to look kind of cool now ! Maybe the new attitude when you're out of business.

They look also very stressed. Very uneasy to make such huge big lies and stay cool without sweating.

I would be surprised if you could provide a shred of proof -- just a shred -- more than your own feelings :)

Remember that Intel invented ultrabooks, that's their word by the way, and that they have paved the way forward for OEMs (including Apple!) to provide real desktop performance in extremely portable form factors that still have workday-long battery life.

Intel realized that at those scales, they have to work toward solving the whole problem, not just providing great discrete components. AMD is actually a benefactor of much of that work as they simply have to find ways to fit their products into the product categories and form factors that Intel has already worked with OEMs to define.

And remember, when talking about mobile products, 'equivalent spec' also includes stuff like size, weight, battery usage, heat, and noise. As you'll note from recent reviews, AMD simply doesn't offer an 'equivalent spec' yet. We need the Ryzen 4000 APUs to arrive and actually deliver for them to get close.

I always considered the first MacBook Air to be the first ultra book. Not that it matters because it’s got intel inside anyways. It’s actually the only reason I’ve bought a few Macs now.

Very true but this is full Intel source they only pointed out.

I remember Intel gave up on their motherboard business, so I'm not very sure they make those things anymore. And AMD could do exactly the same if needed. They make their own graphics cards at launch, used to make their own motherboard to help some launches. This is nothing special. And I am certain they have some standard inner design made for any major kind of laptop or NUC.
On that comparison that was made at the CES 2020, Intel not only chose 2 different GPUs with a better one from Nvidia for Intel laptop, but an Intel CPU with 8 cores that won't be upgraded for real with Comet Lake series, while comparing to now deprecated Zen+ AMD APU with 4 cores. Furthermore they kind of talked about Tigerlake as the new thing. People not very aware could thing that new 8 core CPU was Tigerlake, but they kind of told it was sometime later this year. This is exactly what they told about Icelake and how many high end Icelake CPU do you see ? None. The official leaks on 10nm++ Tigerlake show something very much limited to low frequencies and 4 cores just like IceLake because Intel may have huge problems to make them with acceptable yields.
The diffrence between Intel Comet Lake-H and AMD Renoir is that the base clock for 45W which is what counts on all core will be of about 500Mhz more on AMD (around 3GHz vs 2.5GHz) and AMD Renoir beating Intel Comet Lake IPC by about 10%, this is going to be quite a gap (25%) for the same TDP.
So if you want the best CPU for your laptop in 2020, it should be this time an AMD Renoir using Zen 2. On U platform it should be using the integrated Vega GPU, but on high en H platform it should be a discrete GPU from Nvidia or AMD with its own VRAM. So AMD CPU is definitely the best choice even on laptops now. Or you should pay for your high end laptop with Intel CPU around 80% of the price of that with an AMD, but I doubt Intel is willing to cut their price. They prefer lying that they still have the crown.

Are you basing this on AMDs numbers, or...?

Now?

If I could buy these AMD parts and they turned out to be actually competitive, now, I'd have one.

I don't.
