Another TUF X570 problem. and also what asus support told me.

so after purchasing the tuf x570 and figuring out that they had removed a bunch of overclocking options in the bios such as BLCK adjustment (yeah), all the spread spectrum settings, also all the memory settings in the digi+ vrm section (which helped me oc my corsair dominator platinum on my 990fx from 1866 to 2140). So they say they are saving those settings for their "premium boards"!!! WHAT??? so now i have to spend $700 to get bclk or SS? WOW.

but back to the reason for the post. I just got off of the phone with asus support. so i emailed them the other day about the problem i've had with this board which is that for the last 4-5 yrs i've been using a Corsair RM750i which has a "link" cable that goes from the power supply to a USB2 header on the MB and if you open a program like HWmonitor or HWinfo you get a bunch of extra readouts that you wouldn't normally get. So awesome, right?

Well when i moved the power supply from my 990fx build into my brand new x570 build, literally EVERY 10 seconds I get the "remove hardware" sound from windows (like you are removing a flash drive). I mean crazy annoying!!!! so i started removing usb devices one at a time till nothing was plugged in, still doing it. So come to find out it's the corsair link cable. If I disconnect it problem stops. so that's the problem.

but since there are no usb drivers i tried looking on corsair website. no drivers but there is the link software. so i installed it and stopped the noise. but then if i close the "monitoring" program back to square one. NOISE EVERY 10 secs. So the port's not bad PS's not bad, using same OS with both boards. so it's OBVIOUSLY problem w/ the MB. So i call asus....

you want to know what they told me. There's nothing they can do because my power supply is not on the QVL!!! WHAT? This is the first time i've ever heard of a power supply QVL, I mean C'MON man. Sounds like to me they are just looking for ways to get out of having to fix their shit. OOF! I've been using asus for years but this is just too much.

This really just blows my mind that asus has sunk to these levels. I am gonna try to return this board to B&H and get the MSI X570 unify. MUCH BETTER BOARD anyway. but now i have to tear the whole brand new system down. pulling my hair out at this point.
 
Asus is renowned for terrible customer/tech support. I gave up using anything asus years ago for trying to send me a used pos mb with silver thermal paste all over it, as a replacement for a brand new $450 mb. Eventually got it straightened out but it took several calls and nearly 5 weeks.
Havent touched anything asus since.
Msi is solid. Ive had several mbs and gpus with no issues at all.
GL with the exchange.
 
Asus, accept that they’re run like a corner liquor store and you’ll be not far from reality.
You’d think the last time CA hit them would have made them act right, but apparently they’re pathological.
Only reason I have a maximum x is bc it was $100 and there weren’t any alternatives I felt like spending double.

I don't think it's an Asus specific problem at all. I think it has more to do with how modern boards handle USB connections since obviously the software causes the problem to go away since it is polling the USB port regularly. I wouldn't be surprised if an MSI board had exactly the same issue.
 
I keep telling people don't buy Asus because they are dogshit on support/warranty. Sorry to see you had to find out the hard way. Also the TUF line is now value/budget line unlike the heavy duty quality of the sabertooth mobos of 5+ years ago.

Do you really think any big manufacturer is going to do anything other than punt on this random issue? I bet you'd get a canned "blame some other component" nonsense from ANY first level tech support from any manufacturer.

On the USB issue they probably all would punt. I had a similar problem with my monitor USB hub and just disconnected it, chances were the hub on there is malfunctioning and I have plenty of usb ports on the mobo.

out of curiosity that was on an asus board too? and did it work on any other pc's. because the link cable worked fine on other PC buid i had it in on same OS. Just not this motherboard. and like i said in the comment above no other vendors have power supply QVL. I mean for them to blow it off and tell me well we can't help you because your power supply isn't on the QVL. that's garbage. and a warning to anyone building a computer around an asus motherboard.

Hell you could have a blown VRM and they can say "well what power supply are you using?" "there you go... sorry we can't RMA, you are using non compliant PS" ...basically what they did to me.

You're way to hung up on this PSU QVL list. QVL barely means anything. Some boards have SSD QVLs, memory QVLs, etc. If you want to go with MSI, have at it. But if you diagnosed the problem as a bad cable, then how is it Asus' fault? Just because it previously worked under your old board doesn't mean it will continue to... The cable could have been damaged while transitioning components.
 
Just because it worked on another MB with a different chipset does not mean it will work on all of them. Try what was suggested with the USB settings. And I would be willing to bet money that any other board manufacturer would blame it on the PSU as well. If all other USB works and one does not then guess what? It is that component causing the issue. It may be the way USB is handled in the X570 chipset and since nothing is 'polling' the PSU with the software off then it keeps thinking it is connecting/disconnecting. If it bothers you that much either run the software all the time, unplug it, or buy another board to see if that is the problem. They are not going to RMA the board and send you a new one for this issue.

Exactly this. I have not used a QVL since a 486dx build 20 years ago.

there are industry standards for a reason.

And sure some Ryzen gen 1 setups had important qvl’s for ram because of actual compatibility issues. But that’s the only example I can think of where it has mattered in many years.

Last but not least, I never have heard of a qvl for power supplies. That is just ridiculous. Power supply standards have been adhered to better in this industry than even motherboard form factors.

I just checked the board support site and it has a "QVL" right down to SATA drives, USB drives, M.2 drives, graphics cards, wifi networking components, HSFs and AIOs, case fans, printers, webcams, etc. So basically, it's just stuff they tested the boards with, however, anything remotely similar should work without issue.

Acer monitor and gigabyte mobo. It might work if I pick a different usb port to plug it into on the back but since I don't really need the monitor usb I just unplugged it altogether. But yeah, Asus warranty support is a pita and I won't buy any of their products until I start hearing more positive stories.

weak, huh. QVL is turning about to just be a get out of jail free card for mobo's or any of their or their other hardware and could even really extend to other vendors. I mean i can see where they can offer up a compatible memory list to get the best performance. but a power supply, or usb drive. shouldn't stuff like that just work? especially THESE DAYS??

The issue isn’t that it’s “just a power supply”. You bought a power supply with a completely unnecessary integrated USB doodad, and you want to to use the doodad. Corsair poorly supports the power supply and others have the same issue, you need to install the driver or leave it unplugged. You’re going to have the same issue with the MSI board and other X570 chipset boards.

what do you mean they "poorly support" it. they have up to date link software and now cue software which both work fine i suppose. but that's not even the issue. all it does is monitor the power rails of the power supply. Everything worked fine on my 990fx board. I didn't even need their software to be running. If i opened up HWmonitor or HWinfo of corsair link then i could monitor said rails. but i didn't have to leave it running because leaving monitoring software lowers benchmark scores and also FPS in games. So why does this board keep dicsonnecting and reconnecting it every 10 seconds no other boards are doing it and it's clearly not the OS because i was running win10 on other computer?

**** just remembered, i also need that cable plugged in to be able to switch my power supply from multi rail (default) to single rail

So you are telling me that all X570 boards have bugged USB 2.0 ports? because i can't find anybody else complaining about the issue and i know there are a lot of people using this power supply (and one's like it) because when it came out it was Johhny Guru's most stable power supply he ever tested. Hell they even have other PS's on the QVL that have link cables. It's the board, man. It's prob a simple fix in firmware but they aren't gonna do shit about it.

You made up your mind that it was Asus fault before you ever posted this thread. No worries, you don't like Asus. I like Asus because I've always had good luck with their boards and have had significantly worse experiences with MSI over the past 15 years. To each their own.
 
If running the corsair software fixed the problem like you put in your first post then run the software, not running it because it lowers FPS scores in benchmarks is a silly excuse and the difference is probably margin of error.

And since the problem went away with the software it is more then likely a win10 issue then a mobo issue.
 
Have you posted this on the Corsair Forums where they may have more information? Also I have a lot of Corsair stuff and if I do not run the iCue software then my RGB stuff does not work right either and to be honest I do not notice anything getting slower with the software running, at least that I would notice in day to day operation. Just run the damn software if that fixes your problem and be done with it.
 
Buy an Evga power supply. Get rid of that janky Corsair one on ebay or to one of your enemies. Nobody wants a 12v line on multirail. Single Rail is the best for most PCs.

what are you talking about i've use nothing but asus since 2004 except when i tried an assrock board and vrm gave up ghost after a year. so whatevs. they are falling off, what can i say?

Yeah, its 5 year old technology with the worst software in the industry, Corsair Link/iCUE.

EVGA power supplies are top notch on the mid to High end and normally cost less than Corsair.


You are not looking for help, you are just arguing with everyone that disagrees with you that its not the motherboard.

Go ahead, keep buying those mobos then and lock this thread because you obviously got it all handled.
 
A QVL is a list of hardware they have tested working - not a get out of jail free card. It is a way for customers to know for sure something works without having to test it themselves. The more lists they have the better they are supporting their customers. Using hardware not on the list doesn't change your rights to shove the board back in their face and get your money back (well maybe in Ameristan). With that said I doubt it is a problem with the board (unless your specific card is broken) as it follows the standards like every other board.
 
Do you have another powersupply to test with? If you are a system builder, you should always have a handy spare power supply. Imo, PS is the number one failure or culprit to other components. Multi-rail is fine as long as they are redundant and not counted toward power supply rated wattage. Antec high end line are setup this way and my old Antec High-Current Gamer PS are this setup! I am current on Asus X570 Gaming-Plus with 3900X. It works perfectly. The only default that needs correction is SOC on auto which result in 1.3V by default. It should be manually adjust to .9V to 1.1V. Everything else in default setting is working properly! What bios are you using? Did you load the optimized bios after flashing your update, save and reboot; then put in your bios setting? The feature you are using is not a typical setup. Have you guys to get an external device like usb doctor to trouble shooting? Is you PSU sourcing the voltage or the PC? What is the reading of the PSU usb voltage when not connected? Does it come in and out? I don't know about ASUS customer support but if you looks across the industry in term of BIOS released for X570 chipset, ASUS has released update more revisions than anyone else. In a sense, ASUS customer is semi correct/incorrect. The statement should say that the USB interface is not support because they have not tested it. The powersupply is working properly as it is! They are two separate functions on a same device.

Not only a long ramble, but the issue isn't the power supply, it's the add on USB item built.into the power supply. It honestly sounds like an issue with the way that the device was designed. More likely it worked on the older board because it was more forgiving to incorrectly designed components. If the software clears it up, then it's something the USB device and software are doing that's odd. All this said, I don't care much for Asus, but not liking them and blaming them for not trying to fix someone else's hardware/software really is two separate issues.

I'm glad I didn't buy those Corsair RMi PSU and went with RMx line. Motherboards isn't clearly the culprit and there may be something in the BIOS or the driver that prevents the problem.
I've looked into the TUF 570 board (without wifi) and it seems to be a good board probably one of the best for the price.
