FF VII: Remake. New news/teaser trailer

The moggle in that screen looks normal. I think FFX or XI they started really messing with the design too much... but sure some may prefer the more recent ones

I miss the classic design as well. Nice to see it return. I believe that is Choco/Mog summon in action too.

From Final Fantasy III. Doesn't look at all like that screenshot for FFVII-R.

That is too bad. Really didn't like XV but wanted to see what this was like. Not much (currently) that I am looking forward to playing so that is disappointing.

I want this game to be amazing so badly but I just know it's going to end up sucking. They really should have let us have the original style of combat.

Well at least we got a date now, timed exclusiveness was pretty expected to me as it'll give some time to polish the controls, graphics and everything for PC too.

They really should have let us have the original style of combat.

They will have a classic mode as well, you can switch between action-style or classic. I'm sure it won't be 100% the same as it does involve some automatic AI character control but that they even offer the possibility to choose, is nice. I think both modes look interesting personally and it makes for better replayability.

They tend to release some info every now and then on the twitter account, recently they also commented on the classic mode:

Guess no ones has posted new info here in a while so here goes:

Before Christmas information came out showing a demo for the remake being uploaded to the PSN servers. This came from a site that monitors this stuff and they posted an image of the demo icon.

Today: A video came out showing the opening cinematic of the demo.

I had the biggest crush on Jessie as a kid. It's going to be even harder to watch her die in HD. They made her super cute in the remake!

Edit: Also is it just me or does the combat look a hell of a lot like Crisis Core?

Yes it does! I was a huge fan of that game's combat, although if it was flawed at its core I wouldn't know. I expect a game like this to be more fleshed out if it was.

I'm a little surprised they didn't just wait to make this game a PS5 time gated exclusive and I wonder what the game really could have been if they waited.

Yeah, reminds me of CC as well/ Though the dude playing in those videos seems pretty terrible. Mash, mash, mash, mash, without paying attention to anything. That obviously won't work on bosses, but I hope enemies later in the game make that strategy not work as well.

Looks like there are some leaks going around thanks to data mining. There are images of Red XIII and cross-dressing Cloud, along with some story things. Not going to post anything here, cause spoilers, but if anyone wants to look they're not hard to find.

Edit: In non-spoiler territory there is lingering PC code in the demo. Apparently references to higher resolutions and hardware from Nvidia and AMD. I think it's a pretty solid bet that we'll be seeing a PC version not long after the exclusivity contract is up.

At least for PC gamers I'm fairly confident there will be some "Hard mods" out there eventually as Unreal Engine is used. I made some for my own enjoyment of the PS1 game using some tools that allowed tweaking of enemy, character attributes etc. to make it more of a challenge. :)

Talking gameplay balance from the leaked demo, the most notable thing I think is a bit off is the HP is set a bit too high in comparison to what dmg enemies deals and how much you recover from a cure magic spell. 500~600 hp range would seem more balanced as a starting point than those 1200 - 1300 for players who want more of a challenge but I notice he's like lvl 7-8 in the demo, that could be a demo thing only perhaps.

Posted earlier that the game is a one year PS4 exclusive. No reason to not think that this will be coming to PC since all the other Final Fantasy games have.

Cloud was lvl 6 at the start of FF7 as well and went up to 7 after the first battle. Though, they really could do with some HP balancing. The original game wasn't terribly hard either, but this does still look fairly easy. After seeing what New Threat does to the original, I really want to see a hard mode for the remake. I'd even be okay with it being free content added later on. Heck, if they made big enough changes, I might even be willing to pay a few bucks for something like that.

Part of me really wants to preorder this. Final Fantasy 7 on the original Playstation was easily one of my favorite games of all time, maybe number 1. I really want to see how the live action combat pans out though. I saw the video on twitter saying not to worry about it since there is an option to have character movements automated, but I'll wait and see how this pans out before I buy. I still don't like the idea.

It looks like the demo has all three (Classic, Easy, Normal) combat options in it. So whenever SE gets around to releasing it hopefully all three are available for people to check out.

There is a Hard mode, but you have to unlock it first. They haven't divulged details on how it's unlocked, but I'll be disappointed if you have to complete the entire game first.

It would really suck if you had to beat the game to unlock it. Though, I'd expect that requirement to be taken care of in the PC version.

Freakin cool! The latest intro trailer looked fantastic. Classic or new mode fighting is okay with me, a bummer there would have to be a wait for it to be on other systems.

I just can't get excited for this game with all the bs and milking that is going to happen. I'll just replay the original on March 3. Then maybe get the actually complete game on PS6 for $20.

I don’t care if they’re milking it. They’re dropping all kinds of nostalgia bombs on me. I’ve reached my limit on giddiness. Can’t wait to play this.

Wait a minute.. so this is ANOTHER remake of FFVII ? Pretty sure there was a remake with some added stuff on Steam a few years ago. I may have it in my library but not sure.

I still have the original PC Trapezoid box version which I pre-ordered back in the day.

No, this is the only remake. The version released on Steam is just the old Eidos port made to work on modern systems with a few cheats bolted on.

No, that was an upgrade of the original game so modern systems could play it. This is a top to bottom remake of the original.

It also had a few outstanding fixes, like not being able to leave North Crater and M.DEF on armor doing nothing.

Fair point. TBH, I never played the "vanilla" version of the Steam release. The moment I picked it up I "downgraded" it back to the original release and installed mods.

To be fair, the original game was pretty damn easy, outside of a few spots. And I always felt AP gained *way* too slowly for the amount of Materia options you had.
