2700X mini temp spikes?

Just swapped out a 1700X for 2700X in system in sig. 1700X going to a family member.

These mini 5 degree temp spikes are really annoying as they cause fan spool up. Information on the net is all over the board. "its normal"; "I never see it"; "run amd power profile" (I do, and it doesn't stop it)...

Afterburner shows a longer timeframe than RyzenMaster, but supposedly RyzenMaster shows true temps. Which makes me feel better, as 47 deg C at idle on AiO water would be pretty sucky....

The spikes linked by the arrow are the same spike.

No pattern that I can detect for the spikes.

1700X didn't do it.

Anyone here have a clue?

See what HWinfo64 shows you. My 3900x shows 10 degree spikes from time to time while under sustained load. If your 5 degree spikes are just at idle, I wouldn't be concerned.

I just got a 2700x as well and noticed the same thing. High idle temps with frequent spikes.

Spikes just high enough to make the fan spin up which sucks for an HTPC.

I adjusted my CPU fan profile and now the only fan spin up is when I load up a game. Very annoying at first, but now all is fine.

Both 2600 and 2700x would idle with high temps. But after adjustments in bios temps have dropped.

my 2600x does it, this is normal and adjust your fan profile as mentioned.

Check your system for malware and spyware and viruses. Run malware bytes and spybot s&d.

Those spikes looks like a process that is running and mimics many malware infections I've seen in past years.

Yeah, but then it would be common to both the 1700x I just swapped and the 2700x, but 1700x never did it.

What adjustments?

Note the processor seems to be running steady at 4.05 Ghz and not 3.7, which could be making up for the temp diff between my 2700x and 1700x. Most days I value quiet over the speed bump - so what do I shut off to kill, or at least reduce, the speed bump? Or jsut live with a hotter profile and bump my "spool up" temp to, say, 50C?

turn on PBO in the bios and make sure the power plan doesnt have the cpu set to 100% min.

^ Thanks.

For now, just adjusted my fan profiles. Gotta go make some more tamales now. Will revisit later, maybe, after I watch temps for a bit.

My 2700X did that for a while....I think it was just a glitch in the temp reporting because I don't think it's possible for my CPU to spike up to 399°C and survive...yes. mine showed mini spikes to 399°C in the afterburner program

Sometimes, the ryzen balanced plan keeps the clocks elevated. I'd switch to the standard balanced plan on Zen+.

nothing changes the base temps... 45 -> spiking to 53... unless I manually undervolt/throttle the processor I guess that's one downside to 2700x over 1700x. Higher speeds = higher temps. :)

So just settled on changing fan smoothing spool up time to 2.6 seconds in addition to increasing the ramp up temp to 60C.

I ordered another 120mm high static pressure fan for my hyper212evo. I heard it doesn't do much to double up on fans, but it can't hurt.

This thing is way too loud for an HTPC.
