Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (2017)

The Battlefront 2 Progression update, which will release next week on March 21, revamps the whole system...Star Cards will no longer be found in crates at all. "Instead, you’ll earn experience points for the classes, hero characters, and ships that you choose to play in multiplayer," reads the press release..."If you earn enough experience points to gain a level for that unit, you'll receive one Skill Point that can be used to unlock or upgrade the eligible Star Card you'd like to equip."...

sounds reasonable from a design perspective however EA has openly lied before and I do not believe them. I will not purchase nor play anything from them and I will continue to wait for their demise.

Lol. I guess you’ll be waiting a while. It’s funny I’ve heard the same parroted idea since all before you were born

Starfighter Assault — maybe one of the most immersive Star Wars gaming experiences of all time. Possibly one of the most UNDERRATED games of all time. I can’t think of another game that better represents the cinematic pace and drama of Star Wars dogfighting. The new progression system is a mixed bag, but overall if you skipped this and like Star Wars dog fighting you are missing out big time. This was well worth the $60 the production values are fantastic. Dogfighting rewards Street Fighter reflexes and battles play out like the films. The Falcon draws huge fire and you have to twist and manuver your way through asteroids and debris to survive, but also can break away, fly into an enemy capital ship and bring down their reactor. Huge point rewards for playing the objective. When you are in the zone and tearing it up you are rewarded with points that open up hero ships and at end of match points for increasing your chosen classes abilities. Game is gorgeous, frame rates in space are fast, sound and voice is authentic, battles seem big and eventful and starfighter maps are great.

Glad the loof crate thing worked out but man separating DICE/EA from the Star Wars franchise is NOT a good thing. I thought this game was one of the best of 2017.

Core gameplay is unusually deep and skill based—you can learn to weave in and out of a Star Destroyer’s innards if you are good, or crash and burn until you learn. Totally addictive core gameplay forget upgrades and nonsense.

Get in now if you like Star Wars if game is cheap.

I have pretty bad luck with starfighter assault, I'm always getting one shotted or otherwise slaughtered by somebody that is running purple star cards and has been playing religiously since day one. Definitely not balanced and very frustrating. Same for other friends in the same situation as me who never played it after we realized the game was shit.

The game has some new good looking maps if you haven't tried it out recently for 40 player matches the constant respawning just gets to me cause the other team has 20 snipers. Just take this game for what it's worth the loot boxes thing has passed.

Did they open it up for private servers yet? Like they did the original 2015 version.

Yeah. Must not make them money. If it doesn't, they don't. Trust me. I miss it most of all with the battlefield series.

You can't even run the game if you run the game with Direct X 12

I booted the game up kept on crashing on me so I read on a Forum that if you edit a config file and exclude Direct X 12 use 11 or the older Default it works.

Anybody still playing Battlefront 2? I got it cheap at $4.50 through Amazon a month ago. Finished the single player campaign, it was OK. I tried the multiplayer and it was mostly meh till I tried Starfighter Assault mode and holy F* its fun! Looks beautiful and controls great with the default m&kb settings, no controller needed.

Makes me miss the old LucaArts X-Wing/Tie Fighter games but this will do in the meantime. Just wish there was more variety with maps and ships.

4.50 wow. I paid $30 I think a week after release on ebay. this game could have been amazing with battlefield style maps. loot boxes didnt kill this game. its map design did.

In fairness, the latest DLCs were pretty sweet.

I feel you, what we all want is a new X-wing/tie fighter. These are not the droids we are looking for. Starfighter assault (and fighter squadron from the 1st one) are the only things I play on SWBF. And it looks neat, and seems like fun... until you try to play it. There are some fun moments to be had, but the kiddies who play this 24x7 will ruin you, and they have all their stupid star cards upgraded to max. I think there are supposedly 6 maps, but I only ever see 3 and one of them is clone wars BS. PS4 has active players but I don't know about PC. Only thing I hate more than the clone wars maps is all the floating space debris that makes you explode if you get anywhere NEAR it. Makes evading missiles tons of fun. When I play I end up killing myself way more than anyone actually shoots me down.

It makes me SO ANGRY because it looks great and has so much potential... for what? And the load times are longer than some of the missions if the players know how to game the objectives.

I might feel different if I could CHOOSE MY SIDE/SHIP, all I every want to do is fly an x-wing or a-wing... but oh no 95% of the time I get stuck playing imperial and the tie fighters suck. I actually paid REAL money for the death star DLC for the first one... after like 50 some attemps I never once got to play rebels. And then there is the stupid droid fetch/fps shooter match in the middle and I hate all that about SWBF (it does look and sound like star wars though).

Rant over. Be happy you got it for cheap and enjoyed the single player. The rest of it is.....................

Yeah, I still don't understand why Battlefront can't be like Battlefield

I hear ya, same experience and it was one of those 'git gud' for real moments because those experienced players had real advantages over n00bies. They could pilot the same exact ship as yours but have almost double the power. Another annoying fact is the lack of community as no one is playing at most times.

On a side note, how does EA make money pushing garbage like they've been doing for the past several years??

how is the online player base?...the game seems to have gotten better and better with each new content drop...

No idea. I play it every now and again, but I usually just play all the stuff they add every patch that you can do by yourself.

Similar experience. I bought it for around 5 bucks or whatever when it was on a deep sale, just to try out the SP content. Played a bit of SP, played some bot matches...never really touched it again. Not sure if I will. Maybe? Who knows. It's a gorgeous game but otherwise pretty meh.

Did they open up private servers yet?

They finally relented and did on the 2015 Battlefront game at customer demand, then backhanded the customer again with the 2017 game in that there were no private server allowances yet again. I could get people to play this as LAN, with private servers. Without - none of my group will even consider it at LAN.

I logged in one time and I had like 5-7 snipers just spawn camping me in this newer map. The game looks amazing but it's hit and miss with how lucky you get.
I think the game looks better than BFV because of all that futuristic looking stuff.

I've purchased the game on humblebundle for €5.99, in a momentary lapse of judgement (I forgot how awful Battlefield 1 was)

But after it crashing to the desktop twice I enjoy it much more than expected. This is actually a good game so far. Of all things the cutscenes are the ones stuttering and lagging not the gameplay itself.
The graphics looks great most of the time, mediocre at a few places.
The shooting is great, I like the idea that there is no ammo. You still have to "reload" but don't have to worry about looting ammo.

What I don't like is that if you pick up a new weapon/ability and equip it there is no way to go back to the old if it sucks, at least I couldn't find a way.

The story is nothing to write home about so far, and unfortunately it is a bit too obvious where things are headed already after playing like 90 minutes.

Oh, there is actually one thing I dislike about the shooting, if you stand near a door frame or object your shots will always hit it even when they shouldn't.
Kind of defeats the purpose of being able to switch camera shoulders as you have to be completely in the open to be able to shoot at the enemies.
And your health drains pretty quickly if you get hit.

Or is there a cover mechanic in the game I missed? Because if there is the game sure didn't read me in.

I might have to finally purchase this game... if I can tear myself away from Apex. hah. (39.99 for the whole shi-bang of you never bought the original game.. otherwise 24.99)

I have to admit it's pretty fantastic, a full 180 from its controversial, rocky launch. Great for dropping in and playing a few rounds now and then.

Sounds like a nice change of pace between Apex matches....and it's origin also... It's hilarious I use Origin more than Steam now lmao. Def going to pick this up.

Let's go, boys.

Wait what?

Star Wars Battlefront (2005)
Star Wars Battlefront (2015)
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017)
Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2019)

Shouldn’t we be at 4 by now?

Oh what the hell? I’m in. I own the other three and loved them.
