this brings me back to a question that i hope can and does get answered here please. Ive seen VR headsets online for as cheap as 19.99 all the way up to 1,000 Dollars. How CHEAP can i really go and still play VR games on PC? Also because i dont understand it whats with the VR coming with 32\64 and now 128 gb ? whats this for please? I dont want to spend 500 on VR but would like to be able to play VR on cheaper if possible. Any and ALL info you can give me or possibly others here to understand would be awesome ! Thanks!

a few links of what would work for HL Alex also would be nice so i know what im looking at and for Thanks again! VR links that is

You get what you pay for like most things. The cheapest HMDs are really just some kind of cardboard thing tricking your eyes and are not VR at all. The best options on the cheaper side are the Samsung Odyssey+ for $250 USD and the Oculus Rift S for $400. These are standalone headsets that plug into your PC. The Odyssey+ has better resolution than the Rift S, but the controllers and build quality of the Rift S are superior. I do not know which one has better head tracking, though. The ones you see advertised with storage are "all in one," requiring no PC to connect to. These are the Oculus Quest, but they can only play games made specifically for that device currently. Oculus has a beta program that allows you to plug it into your PC, but you are still limited to games sold on the Oculus platform, unlike the Rift. Valve develops and uses OpenVR in their games, meaning Half-Life Alyx will be playable with almost any HMD.

There are all kinds of PCVR headsets that are available at a wide range of prices.

You can get a Samsung Odyssey+ for $250-$300 (depending on the sale) that utilizes Windows Mixed Reality. The headset itself is pretty good and WMR does a decent job with tracking.

At $350-$400 you can get an Oculus Rift S or Quest. The 64/128GB you see is the onboard storage for the Quest as it can be used standalone without a PC and now with a PC with Oculus Link. The Rift S requires a PC and is typically recommended over the Quest if you’ll primarily use VR with your PC. Both have their Pros/Cons that I recommend you research. These seem to be the best bang for your buck VR solutions.

At $600+ you can get the HTC VIVE Pro/Cosmos offerings. But if you’re going to go all out at this point I’d probably recommend the Steam Index. HTC’s offerings are not worth the price IMO, especially the Cosmos that apparently suffers from sub-par tracking.

So the 2 links you posted both of those would be fine for Half Life Alex then ?

Cheapest is probably going to be one of the generic WMR headsets that lenovo, acer, HP , and probably several other companies resell. These were going on sale for well under $150 or less regularly. Sales seems to have stopped now that retailers finally offloaded all their inventory.

I can only imagine they would put it on PSVR because almost every person that owns one would buy it. This game will probably become the most notable VR game in existence. The market is craving a true ground up AAA VR experience.

Not only a AAA VR experience, but, another Half-Life game.

can you give me any links to what the hp,acer, lenovo stuff is or was by chance?

pretty much just google mixed reality headsets.

Lenovo Explorer is the only one I remember the name of. I think Acer and HP models are literally just named Acer Mixed Reality Headset and HP Mixed Reality Headset.

Last year they seemed to go on sale regularly for $150-$199. You may have to find them used now, I'm not sure anyone is still making them after lackluster sales.

I've only tried PSVR briefly on some kind of passive under water adventure. Only thing I could do is look around. The kit was surprisingly light and comfortable. The screen was ok.

Not as sophisticated as my Index but, ugh, it's got some things going for it. If Valve can make it work on as many platforms as possible, then that's good for everyone. Let's get this VR party started

As a former PSVR owner I can say however that if you already have a PS4 then the PSVR is a very serviceable headset. Also there are a lot of great VR titles on there you can't play anywhere else. else. And until the Rift S copied the PSVR's headset design, the PSVR was the most comfortable headset on the market.

dont you need controllers or something?

Playstation Move controllers are the "controllers" that could be used with PSVR and the Playstatiopn Camera however for a game like Half Life: Alyx and the limited amount of buttons on the PSVR... idk how they would get it to work. Idk what i'm talking about actually now that I think about it... if they could get Skyrim VR working on PSVR then there should be no reason why Alyx wouldn't work just done.
