This comes as zero shock to me, because the scammer asshats have been stealing games from Redbox for years by making paper copies of the discs w/barcodes. I have been burned by this, and I wonder why they were not pursuing legal action harder.... guess it wasn't cost effective?

So good job scammers... you killed the last physical game rental outlet.

Every time you see an ebay game listing for "disc only".... you know where it came from.

Redbox is exiting the game rental business, the company confirmed to The Verge on Monday.

The company’s trademark rental kiosks have been a handy way to rent physical copies of movies (if you still have a disc drive to use to play them, that is), and they have been one of the few remaining places to rent physical copies of video games. But if you relied on Redbox kiosks as your place to rent or even buy new PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch titles, you won’t be able to anymore. In a statement, Redbox says it is “permanently transitioning out of the games business” to focus exclusively on movies.

There still gamefly?

Yeah but they suck for new rentals. I used to buy used games frequently on Gamefly (360/ps3 days) but this gen not so much.... If you subscribe to the rental service, I could never get the games I wanted (ie - new ones).

But who knows, with Redbox out of the picture, maybe Gamefly can take advantage. But I doubt it.

I think the fact that consoles are moving away from physical copies and going digital has more to do with it than scammers.

Next gen will be huge for this. Many console gamers are going digital now. Especially with SSDs being standard. The load times alone are worth it.
