Someone told me ages ago that avast was a really good AV. Well i tried it and it never found viruses or should i say it was full of viruses that when changed over to Kaspersky it starting deleting 100's if not 1,000's of viruses that avast missed. Ever since then ive used Kaspersky and never had a single issue ever after that.

Ya you use what you use for whatever Personal reasons i get it but this is messed up on avast and avg i really did like avg at one time.

Avast used to be good a billion years ago when I used it as an IT technician and it's boot up scan was incredibly helpful. It's turned into a steaming pile of crap these days. AVG is also not good anymore. I recommend BitDefender now to everyone. They have both a free version and a paid version. After that whole Kaspersky Russia/NSA thing, I've steered clear of them, although it is one of the better AVs out there right now.

i knew someone would bring up the Kaspersky thing it wasnt the fault of Kaspersky the guy took home classified info and put it on his own pc which caused kaspersky to red flag it as a virus with him not knowing it was being sent to kaspersky to be reviewd as a threat aka malware\virus as seen by the AV.

I'm not specifically claiming that any of the software products mentioned in this thread are good or bad, but in most cases when you run a malware scan and comes up with "100's if not 1,000's" of results, most if not all of that is going to be stuff that is basically irrelevant, stuff like browser cookies, etc. Even some stuff that probably shouldn't be removed. Many programs "find" as many things as they can simply so that they can produce a big number to show you at the end, and make you think it's such an amazing program for finding so many "viruses".

I doubt that even an un-patched XP box connected directly to the internet (no NAT or firewall) would end up with that many actual viruses.

to be fair its usually a few viruses that just keep re-infecting the pc over and over and over..........it add ups to 100's of replications according to the AV once or twice as 1000's
