Acer CG437K P - 43" 4K@144 Hz HDR1000 AdaptiveSync

55" isn't a reality for me. I'm running a 2015 48" Samsung 4k TV as a monitor right now and even that seems too big on my desk. I think a 43" monitor would be perfect, especially one with decent dpi and adaptive sync. Would be a good match with my 2080ti.

I use two 43" monitors, each at 3' to my eyeballs right now. It's a good viewing distance at 3' or so, but I'll have to drop back a bit farther once I hopefully put one of the 43" 144hz 4k AUO VA based monitors in the middle just because the 3 monitor array will be so wide. For a single 55" I'd probably say 4' away which is really getting to where you are separating the desk from the monitor more like an island. I sit about 7.5 to 8' away from a 70" to my eyeballs in my living room at my couch too for comparison.

Two 43" 4k 60hz with a 32" LG GK850G gaming monitor in the middle. All three are 3' to my eyeballs currently but the overlapped crescent/kidney shaped desk is on wheels so I can move it if I want to.

Looking forward to computex news. Hope these 43" gaming monitors get put on the calendar.

No. I wouldn't be surprised if they get pushed back till next year like every other display does.

Vega do you get access to these monitors? I'm really looking forward to replacing my 28".
I think I saw the price of this, $1500... ouch, that's more than last years model 55" lg oled.

The monitor showed up in Nvidia's latest driver on the G-Sync compatible certified list. That's not a bad sign, remains to be seen how the panel fares when they finally manage to release it.

That's surprising considering the XG438Q never got official G-Sync Compatibility.

It might be due to the black smearing and overshoot issues they considered that it was not good enough. Or they just haven't tested it yet. I wish Nvidia released also a list of which monitors failed their certification and why. That would kick manufacturers a bit in the ass to make sure they do it right.

...but then someone might compute the number of Freesync monitors that failed versus those that passed, and when <3% comes out...

[many really are trash, but many have also just failed because they did not ship with Freesync enabled by default, so I'd like to see the data too]

I did a google search of CG437K and one of the results is nvidia updating their drivers to support freesync with CG437K in the list of supported monitors.

Well Nvidia did release numbers when they first started the program, and around 5% passed.

Given that lacking variable overdrive is generally an automatic fail(except with the best TN panels, for the mostpart), it's not hard to understand why. Freesync is pretty much complete trash all around except for a very tiny set of recently released models. For example, the only 27" Freesync monitors I would even consider to be buyable products are the LG 27GL850 and the Gigabyte AD27QD.

Agreed. A 55" screen may be nice, (and even a bit small these days) for the livingroom, but to me gaming should only ever happen in one place, on a proper desktop setup at a desk with a proper mouse and keyboard.

For that 43" seems to be the perfect 4k monitor size. I - too - have a 48" screen currently, and it would be nice if it we're just a tad smaller.

It also puts the resolution right at that desktop sweet spot of ~100ppi. The 91.8ppi of the 48" has always bothered me a little. Might also be exacerbated by BGR. Not sure if my JS9000 is BGR or not

To be fair, there is nothing inherently wrong with Freesync. It's just that being an open standard, AMD has not been able to control it as tightly as Nvidia controlled G-Sync, and a lot of trash got released with Freesync printed on the box.

IMHO, the world needs more open standards, and less proprietary junk.

Almost can't blame the manufacturers though. They are meeting the desires of the market. The cheapest Freesync monitor possible. They know that while there are a few of us who truly care about quality, most shoppers make their selection 90% based on price. Same reason why airline travel has become so terrible.

That said, I think you paint a worse picture than necessary for FreeSync. There have been some pretty good gems over the years. They were just a minority, and you had to do your research to find them.

Wonder when this will actually be available in the US for purchase. Assuming it does get certified by Nvidia, might be interested at this point.

If only it was ultrawide and curved lol.... To big points it doesnt come with so its good immresion on the desktop but gaming wont give you that 21:9 that gamers love. Also gsync I prefer and what not.

I always found ultrawide to be kind of annoying.

Up on Amazon with "usually ships within one to two months" if anyone wants to put their order in and see if they get it faster by chance. I'm waiting for Best Buy so I can use my 0 financing option.

Oh yeah, also for only those who can stand VA panels. Still on the fence. But with nothing else on the horizon beyond waiting for new cards and HDMI 2.1, IDK MAN.

Well assuming its good I'd say its about time Acer (or anyone else) made one. Not sure I'd buy it but I'm happy to see more choices in the 43" size category. Have to wait and see how this plays out.

Yeah, 43" just makes more sense for 4K, so heres hoping 43" catches on more and more.

Waiting for the reviews. Can’t see myself spending $1500 for this though.

Dude HDR 1000nits ...... Tell me another monitor that is even close to that besides CRG9 and CHG90. This HDR comes with a price tag on it. 43" monitors go for 500 dollars or 600 dollars. But are they 144hz ? NOPE!!!!!!!! No 4k monitor is 144hz unless you buy the little baby 27" 4k monitor. Also sure its not IPS, but Ive been seeing and hearing nothing but bad things about the IPS glow and the blacks are not solid true blacks. Also VA has much better latency. As long as you dont look at the monitor from the side or above or below ,, the VA is good. 4k144hz drools! BTW the 3080Ti is coming out in June and it just might do 144fps @ 4k matching the referesh rate. Only downfall is Ive been using 40" 4k 60hz Curved. Once you go curved you can't go back. I guess I have to get used to the flat screen again. Hurts my eyes reading test on the edges and what not.

Yeah I'm reluctant to give up my 43" curved for anything else.

Sounds awfully good for a monitor nobody’s used yet.

Has anyone seen reports of whether this is a RGB or BGR layout?

Does this display actually exist? Supposedly it's been available in the US for a few weeks now. You'd think they'd want to get it out by the holiday season.

Either that or we've lost interest in it.

An important point is that if Freesync is on, overdrive is set to normal and cannot be adjusted to the extreme setting, which is pretty much the only other option for overdrive. Hopefully normal is a good compromise with no overshoot. As expected VRB (backlight strobing) is not compatible with Freesync or HDR and same goes for 144 Hz mode. There is also no PbP feature which is a shame on a large display like this.

It comes down to if the panel is alright and not the shitshow in the XG438Q. The XG43UQ does seem like the better option as an overall package.

They are all basically the same panel though... slightly different revision with HDR-600 vs 1000 certification, but otherwise they are identical. Historically, I can't think of two monitors sharing such similar panels that didn't also share the same issues. The slightly brighter backlight on the Acer and UQ won't mean a damn thing in regards to the issues we saw on the 438Q.

Picked one up last week. decided not to bother with the 144hz OC with 2 DP cables and went the single DP 120hz route. It's setup at the office at the moment as I'm building a new PC to go with it but I'm only there 2 days out of week with the virus lock down. I should be moving it home this week so if you have any questions that was not covered by the reviews up online and on Youtube. Feel free to drop me a note and I can see if I can answer it. Ran Armored Warfare at 4K with pretty much everything maxed and getting about 90fps using a 2080. Will pickup a 2080 Super or Ti next month (waiting for the new Intel CPU and mobo) and see what I can get.
