Intel Xe GPUs Progress Reportedly Not Going Well, Poor Efficiency

Well that's a shame. Although if efficiency is the major downside at this point, I could live with that. I was using 3x GTX 680 (SLI) before I upgraded to my RTX 2080, so obviously I don't care much about heat output, noise, or power consumption when it comes to desktop cards. It would not make for a great laptop GPU though...

I hope Intel sticks with it over the long term. Otherwise there's never going to be enough competition (with just AMD) - to force Nvidia to lower their pricing.

The Raja-effect: Global warming through GPU design..

The Raja effect, everything he touches doesnt work out. AMD fires Raja, AMD then builds rdna, 5700xt is a hit! Rdna 2.0 ginna be even better and no Raja to ruin it. Intel has been making some bad decisions lately.

I too hope they stick with it. We need some serious competition. Mr permanent leather coat fused to his flesh nVidia needs to be put in his place.

Eh?
Raja lead the Navi team and it's pretty darn efficient and impressive. Not sure if he did much for next generation though. Either way AMD is now pretty close to NV. Vega undervolted also is about same...

I'd hazard a guess the Intel issues are related to not having all the swanky IP needed to do this efficiently.. and that certainly isn't an easy fix at all.

Intel has a perpetual, non-exclusive license to all Transmeta patents and patent applications. Which includes both longrun and longrun2 which are both used by Nvidia. (longrun2 was licenced by just about everyone and I am pretty sure Intel even uses those patents in their CPUs)

Seems like they have the tools... but GPUs are complicated. Guess Intel will figure that out. Expectations for their first generation should be tempered to say the least. I just hope Intel sticks it out long enough to get competitive, which I am sure would be second gen if they are humble when they analyze how first gen went, but probably more like third generation when Intel puts someone new at the head after 2 fails.

Raja did Vega, Sony and Amd together did Navi.

I still think it's funny how many thought this Intel graphics card was going to be something they wanted for their rigs. I seriously doubt Intel is ever going to devote the resources needed to make a gaming card, they will devote their time for server use and if it happens to work as a gaming card as well then so be it.

So, if it's news about AMD being shitty and it's from WCCF people dismiss it for PAGES. Against intel? LEGIT NEWS.

Even in the desktop format, power delivery and thermal envelope becomes a limiting factor rather quickly. It's not like they can just release a 500W GPU :p

Well good point about the IP and patents etc...

well, nobody has skin in the game with an intel graphics card yet, so there's little reason to lie about it.

Even if the card comes out, the odds of a first gen product matching up to a RXT 2080 is fairly slim. (It's obviously a challenging product to build.)
