"The EVGA NU Audio Card reintroduced the PC world to high-end audio, both stunning the audio world and making new fans along the way. The singular idea of producing Lifelike Audio and Gaming at an affordable price led to an exclusive partnership between one of the world’s most recognizable PC hardware manufacturers and one of the true icons of the audio world – Audio Note (UK)."

is this really needed or just need the dolby atmos plugin for windows 10?

Disappointed that there was nothing of information other than this tweet. Almost thought it was old news cuz google only turned up their previous card. Though I am not considering getting that after price comes down a bit more.

Hasn't that been out for awhile?
The first one is a mainly a Stereo one with 5.1 compressed over optical, this one looks like a the full Surround version.

Edit: Oh, this is a double card set, one is the stereo unit and then the add-on surround card.
Looks like you can buy both together, or separate, but the Stereo card is the primary so that is required.

Two cards for analog surround sound?

At least with a single card, you can run matx, but this looks like an old school surround solution for ATX systems only.

Holy fuck that is one of the busiest product page designs I've ever seen. Really strange to see a double card solution for something that's often a tough sell to gamers even as a single card...but I guess that's mainly for the 7.1 speaker solution. If I had to guess, I'd say that the vast majority of people who would ever consider this product are likely using headphones and/or 2.1 setups.

I wonder if you need both cards for multichannel internal mixing, like can you set Windows to percieve it as a 5.1/7.1 source with the stereo card only? For a PC I always want a multichannel capable source for best positional sound (with games that adher to the XAudio2 standard anyway) whether you are using say headphones or surround speaker setup.

Sometimes they remove the options based on the analog outputs of the card so.

Like... wow.

I guess it'll work.

If they wanted to go 'pro', though, they could have used 1/4" balanced outputs for studio monitors or balanced speaker amps. All the isolation inside the case you could want, and then you push the line outs to 1/8" jacks in a cluster...

And I'm still waiting for someone to make an HDMI sound card, i.e., does all of the software stuff and then pushes it out of an HDMI port- even one that's carrying video on another device.

excited?

Uhh, no.

Mostly, I have all of zero need for desktop surround sound. The only utility of an analog 7.1 card is in providing a higher-quality signal chain than HDMI already achieves, and EVGA has stopped well short of even trying.

The base soundcard? Looks okay, but for stereo I'd just use a decent DAC/Amp which is what I'm doing now.

is there any dedicated sound board worth upgrading to over onboard these days for real?

This was basically my thought as well as they are basically competing with the Essence STX II 7.1 which use RCA on its 2nd card for the surround outputs. Why go with the crappiest connection there is with 1/8" jacks, it makes no sense.

It also sucks that they basically just added a DP port to the existing card which I'm guessing they are using for USB and power since they use a PCIE to USB adapter to connect to their chip on the existing one.

For $259 you can get a starter HDMI 5.1 receiver and get better quality / longevity than this silly PCIe card.
Some time ago I've realized I'm wasting money buying new sound cards every couple years which promise to be better than ever just to be disappointed again and again.

i got this spammed in my email...
also, wasnt this thing out already and not selling well?!
edit: oh, its 7.1 vs 5.1

It's two more, bruh. Why aren't you excited? Using hi-end headphones doesn't make you a pro btw. RGB equalizers for things in your case do, though. Man, I am so excited

Not a fan of computers as Audio sources for music. Movies, games w/e I don't care but I try to keep as much of my Hi-Fi gear away from computers as possible.

As much as I like smaller systems, I can't for the life of me see mATX as being too useful for enthusiasts, especially those that would spend up for a card (array?) like this.

Either go ITX and make it actually smaller, or just get a compact ATX case. Three slots worth of height is just not that much overall.

why would you want to waste your money on a "starter" receiver? kinda defeats the purpose of going "pro audio" doesn't it? plus if you want to hook up a set of descent monitors you need the dac. i had an asrock board that boasted "elna audio" or some shit but it sounded like crap compared to audigy rx in my other box hooked to the same exact setup (monitors and sub).

and you prob use onboard sound. you do realize that pretty much every modern recording studio has went digital right? computer audio is the best of the best. but not the chip on your MB. if that is what you are judging computer audio by, you may want to do some experimentation, at least if you are an audiophile.

Even a "starter" receiver is better than a high end audio card.

and starter speakers too, right? some of those "tin can" cube speakers. man roll on w/ that. I'd rather have a "descent" stereo/2.1 system than a crap "starter" 5.1 system any day. and if YES a sound blaster will sound a million times better than onboard no matter what setup you got. you are losing not only your money but your point. by going w/ a "starter" setup. if you don't care about quality then why are you upgrading in the first place?

I have the Soundblaster card set, just wish it had some lighting on it since it's a very expensive card set.
Also, a backplate would have been nice.

this thing comes with speakers?! no. no card comes with speakers so that argument doesnt work...

dude even if you have a "starter reciever" i just told you i have my system hooked to studio monitors. the sound that the sound blaster puts out is miles away from the sound output from onboard. so i don't care what reciever/speaker setup you got. garbage in = garbage out.

i hear ya. but know you are getting better audio then 99% of the noobs out there. the newer cards with the sabre dacs have backplates. i kind want to grab one but i have more important upgrades to make first. and my audigy RX has studio quality dac's and adc's so i'm fine w/ that for now. i just keep it at the bottom, out of the way. :)

dude, good for you. nothing comes with speakers so why mention them.
