Today Obsidian announced a new IP called Grounded, and it's a huge departure from the sprawling RPGs like Pillars of Eternity or The Outer Worlds. Obsidian's first project under Microsoft's ownership isn't a fantasy of sci-fi epic, but an online multiplayer survival game set in a whimsical Honey I Shrunk the Kids universe. Fans were a bit confused by the reveal; where was The Outer Worlds 2, or the next big RPG to save the Xbox brand?

Yeah, when I first saw it I thought "oh no, MS directed them to make another survival game" but during the reveal Obsidian said the game was being worked on before the MS acquisition (and it's more of a passion project). Still, I guess it's cool that they're at least separating it from other survival games (with the shrunken quality) but it looks like a dog's ass imo. I'm hoping the final product looks more Sea of Thieves than "budget conscious Indie-title".

From the trailer looks like they're gunning for the diaper-shitting end of the Fortnite spectrum.

So not an rpg then? Misleading title is misleading.

I think it actually looks fun. Like one of those stupid fun sort of games me and a few friends can be half drunk playing on a Saturday night on Discord while we bitch about our week and laugh at eachothers missery while getting our old asses handed to us by kids 1/3 our age.

Outer worlds is an awful game

Worst combat system I've ever seen from a aaa title.

Let's hope this next game is not a repeat
