Red Dead Redemption 2

Even the driver that came out today fixed an issue with g-sync In this very game...
[Red Dead Redemption 2][Vulkan]: G-SYNC disengages when disabling V-Sync on the game.

That's hardly a huge issue, and I didn't even notice it because I force V-Sync on in the nvidia control panel.

I very rarely see g-sync issues. I vaguely recall having a g-sync issue with Apex Legends on release that caused random crashes every now and again.

None of these are such serious issues that I wouldn't want a G-Sync compatible monitor.

I wouldn't go out of my way to buy one, but the Acer X27 came with it anyways - And i'm glad I did given how huge of a benefit it is with the demands of 4K even with a 2080ti.

And again - G-Sync isn't mandatory. Do you know how you fix a game with g-sync issues? You just disable g-sync in the application profile for the game.

It's not some huge issue.

It's the memory bandwidth. The 2080 has substantially higher memory bandwidth, which in a game like this, helps out a lot.
It may or may not be that but it could also be architecture differences. There are plenty of demanding games where the 2080 super doesn't make much difference and then there's other games that aren't very demanding and there can be a massive difference such as in Wolfenstein where the performance gain is huge.

Wolfenstein is also a memory intensive game. I think you'll find the scenario's where the 2080 is faster almost entirely correlates to the memory bandwidth increase.

Just started a new game, finally... was watching the intro and at the part where Arthur and Dutch leave to find food, and then...

No warning, no error message, just back to the desktop you go. Clicking on the R* icon in the task bar gives me these tweo messages, shutdown and error, but clicking them does nothing... Awesome.

Are there any events in the event viewer?

Didnt' check yet, I did change it from DX12 to Vulkan and it no longer crashes o_O, but I'm getting extremely weird snow glitches even on High/Ultra. I have the tessellation on ultra, geometry etc... When I walk through the snow, it makes the tracks as you'd expect, but the existing snow tracks look like shaded squares, and as I approach them, they slowly sink down, however they still remain squares. Hard to explain, but when you look at snow tracks I make, you see a proper tessellated pattern. But on existing tracks, the square patterns slowly sink down as approached, keeping a square pattern. This on a 5700 XT, latest drivers etc...

Does it do this on every tessellation setting? If you changed the tessellation setting in the Catalyst Control Center you may want to change it back to application controlled. If you haven't, then try playing around with it and see if anything fixes it.

Free loot for our troubles, thanks Rockstar. Now, stop lowering my honor every time I let a deer bleedout.

it’s been like that since day 1. I’m not sure it’s a bug I think it might be intentional. Stupid though.

I'm glad I decided to wait for the Steam version...I don't mind the Rockstar launcher aspect I'm mainly waiting so Rockstar can work out the PC bugs/kinks/performance

the rockstar store pre-order bonus were sick, though.
Yeah I regretted hesitating on preorder, gambling that they'd keep the deluxe at $59.99 at least through launch day, but it went to $79.99.

I hesitated because I figured BFD to the better horse, since I planned to go grab the White Arabian in the wild again, early game like I did on console last year.

Any body else getting saved data/cloud save errors when launching the game?

This has been happening the last several days for me.

Yeah, happening on every tess setting. I haven't changed any of the Catalyst settings, besides turning on the Image Sharpening. Apparently a number of user's with 5700 XT cards are experiencing the same issue, found it posted on reddit and the AMD community. Interesting too is that a Dev replied that R* is investigating the issue, but that NV card's have been affected by the same bug, though I've yet to find any reports of NV card user's, just ppl with 5700 XT. Also, it's not just the snow, it's affecting all tessellation area's, so Mud, Snow, Swamp etc...

yeah I’ve been getting them too, although not the last two days. My game always seems to load the latest save regardless of the error notice.

No errors here but it sure is slow as hell to load a save for me.

I don't use their cloud because I don't trust it one bit. A while back Rockstar logged me out and when I logged back in every bit of my GTA V progress disappeared.

New patch out, it has reset my graphic settings. With so many graphics options I may have a setting or two different than it was but I believe I am close, unfortunately I am getting worse fps now. Also with Water set to low (refraction and reflection low, physics 25%) I am getting terrible flickering on water surfaces. If I set both water settings to medium and physics to 50% it stops, but water is one of the biggest performance killers so I liked being able to set one or both to low. Hopefully though this patch makes the game more stable for those having problems and hopefully I can find my lost fps soon.

Dear Lord that is one hell of a long list of fixes. A lot of that stuff should have been figured out before the game was ever released though IMO.

For me new patch seems to give me less performance. I'm a graphics whore and play on all ultra at 4k with HDR mode on. before patch i was seeing frames in low to mid 40's which was fine for me. Now i'm in the 30's. Also, I don't have the HDR option at all anymore. used to be only with DX12 and not enabling HDR in Windows 10 but running Vulkan api, HDR was there. Now, nothing on either DX12 or Vulkan.......LAME.....

Edit-So found out with the new patch you now have to have HDR enabled in windows to see the option for HDR using Vulkan or DX12. Sucks because HDR in windows looks like utter crap.... Why is that? Screen and text look so blurred and washed out.....

I can confirm that the patch also lowers performance for me. I went back in and put the exact same settings I was using before and I'm getting about 10 to 12 FPS less. Also this patch broke windowed borderless on Vulkan as there is screen tearing now where before it worked perfect.

EDIT: Ironically windowed borderless is now working in DX 12 where before the patch it wasn't but was working in Vulkan. LOL

And DX12 performance has gone to complete shit for me. I'm dropping in the 40s and even upper 30s in the same spot that I was above 65 FPS in before.

Yeah I did not even notice that setting and it does appear to have an FPS hit. And it seems the issue I was having with DX12 was that it was turning vsync on for some reason in the game even though it's actually off in the settings. That's why my performance was really tanking so bad compared to Vulkan.

The way it was worded in the patch notes made me think that tree tessellation was previously there and controlled by the other tessellation option. Am I wrong in thinking that or is this all new effects on trees?

The game seems to generally have less graphical glitches with this patch, from what I can see. Performance is the same, things just look a little better.

I get the same flickering as well and I have set all my settings to low except textures... at first I thought it might have something to do with shadows thanks for posting your solution. I hope this will be patched in a future update...

The tree tessellation has to be new (not part of the old tessellation) since it hits fps pretty hard, way more than the old setting ever did.
Also recommend turning it off unless you have fps to spare.

The patch resets all your gfx options. Luckily I had mine backed up in screenshots, restored everything and the game runs the same. Looks the same too, I guess. Maybe some of the graphical glitches I had before will be fixed, but those are super rare, it will be a while before I know for sure.

Something seemed fucked up with the ground after the patch, like all the wagon tracks and shit in the mud were phasing into existence 5 feet from me. Went through each setting and I couldn't figure out what the fuck it was - textures legit looked like shit past 10 feet with Textures on Ultra.

Changed all settings to ultra then back down and it mysteriously seems fixed.

I've about had it with COD. I give up on MP-FPS games. I can't compete with kids hopped up on Adderall and Mt Dew.

Reading here, seems like RDR2 is still have some issues? Any chance a 3600 and a 1060 @1080 can handle the game?

Should be fine with mostly medium settings.

I dont know about anyone else, but I feel with the same settings that the game was downgraded for me a bit. The mud and track in there popin right in front me now....so odd. I also got some blurring while I was in cinema mode going to a location.

Also, I noticed his coat physics is all fucked up while riding now. Don't get me wrong still a good game, but this last patch wasn't all the great...Hopefully they do another patch to fix the issues?

I watched the Gamerz Nexus video already on lowering refresh rates but found this in my random feed saying 4 cores is over with this game anyway.

Dick move for them to put (and keep) that video up the day the CPU patch came out. R* even said they were working on a CPU patch earlier this week...

For everyone who installed yesterday's patch over an existing copy of the game (which is 99% of you), the following settings were added and disabled by default, or existing settings lowered to the LOWEST setting by the patch. You can either add/change the settings manually, or (better yet) DELETE your system.xml file entirely, and set up your graphics options from scratch. The new settings will automatically be added and cranked up.

The big one is 'deepsurface' as it breaks ground textures & tracks in some areas. It should be "Ultra" NOT Low. SnowGlint is new, it adds light reflecting off snow. It's pretty neat, you should turn it on I guess. I have no idea what the other 2 new settings do.

File location is
\Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\Settings\system.xml

<shadowParticleShadows value="false" /> (New value true)
<ambientMaskVolumesHighPrecision value="false" /> (New value true)
<snowGlints value="false" /> (New value true)
<deepsurfaceQuality>kSettingLevel_Low</deepsurfaceQuality> (New value Ultra)

Ofc back up your file before you change anything or you risk losing all your old settings, or breaking something and you can't get back to what you had before. Those settings aren't in the main menu.
